There's so many people on the forums spouting off "you need a DPUH, a Sandhawk, a Grog, and a Bee," as if that's the only viable way to get through UVHM. Don't get me wrong, those things are nice to have, but they're far from necessary.

People don't seem to understand the random nature of the train. You might get a bad ass run (Ive got an SS somewhere of 4 legendaries in one train) or you might get a train full of sadness and depression. Tinder is a pushover, just keep killing him. The train will give you some very nice things.

There's something modest about how Derch plays and reviews that's just so refreshing. The problem here is the number of people who confuse "gear needed for solo raid boss runs" and "gear needed to play the game". Almost all "terrible gear" is great in the hands of someone where it matches their build and play style (*almost* all... truly shit gear does exist, but in purple and maybe blue it's exceptional).

On occasion I will fight the Snowman with crap gear to focus on his attack patterns. He is nowhere near any of Raid bosses but I find it fun. He has three stages in the first he will rush the player underground, throw snowballs and use his ice breath. If you get his health low enough he will start throwing candy canes along with his previous attacks. They can be dodged by jumping backwards. In the third phase his is more aggressive moving around close to the player and spamming throwing attacks. The wreath attack is easy to dodge. This is probably useless.

I love that you bring attention to the fact that anything is viable if you understand the game mechanics. UVHM is super easy. Slag, and match elements to enemies, and score criticals whenever you can, and take advantage of the synergies with weapons and skills. It's so simple but people sometimes are brain dead playing these kinds of games.

I think one of the biggest problems (and this is something that I was bad about early on) was that people look at a build posted on reddit or the gearbox forums or wherever, and they see it needs certain guns, and they assume that only those guns will work. So they go to farm legendaries from the train and end up dissappointed, when really (as you've shown) there is plenty of solid gear from the train to help you along. Thanks for doing this video Derch, it really hammered home the point in my opinion.

A tediore grip on that quad, and a bandit barrel on that rifle

“I didn’t get a Harold so I didn’t get anything good.” Yup? Purple Hyperion shotguns or pistols. Purple Torgue shotguns. Purple Jakobs Quads. Purple Tediore or Dahl SMGs. I get a lot of PBFG or Etech launchers which can do plenty of work in UVHM while leveling. You’ll find very useful grenade mods and shields, better than drops or vendors at least.

The train is a blessing

At the VERY least the snowman is a great way to get cash and eridium. If you open the boxes around the tree and sell off some of the pricey but unusable gear you can easily pick up $20 million and 150 eridium or more in a couple hours even if you're unlucky with the gear. Plus with the Banshee or similar build there's very little time wasted getting from point A to point B on that map so it's one of my favorite spots to farm if I'm getting bored of my current gear and I want some interesting purples to spice things up. If it's true that some people are saying they haven't gotten anything worthwhile from the snowman they are seriously missing out. I'd encourage anyone to give it several more tries before giving it up.

Derch, I also enjoy farming the wattler gobbler. It's a pretty easy kill with a good fire weapon and you get 5 good chests out of it for the whole run since after you beat it you can run around the map without enemies.

The moment you enter UVHM at level 50 go finish the Marcus head hunter (if you have it) so you can constantly update your gears. Purely farming the snowman for level up however is a bad idea as constantly killing it will slowly rob out your fun time and you will bore out eventually.

The transitions could use a bit of fixing, but this video is helpful for all them newbies. My problem is on True Vault Hunter mode tho, I always run through the game so fast I find myself going against +5 to 8 level enemies. Bearable, but not that fun all the time.

One thing I noticed. You mentioned to pick up Jakobs rifles, if not to use then to sell because they're worth a lot. You completely passed over a Dahl Grenadier, which along with the Jakobs Cannon, is worth significantly more than other ARs.

The train is definitely the best spot for farming blue, purple, and legendary sheilds. I've gotten 3 shams, 3 bee shields, 4 impalers, transformer. Also a quasar, perfect longbow slag transfusion. The snowman has supplied roughly 70% of my gear

32:37-38 that green fire burst grenade is actually really good for, well, a green grenade mod. Longbow delivery and a zer0 fuse? That's great for Moxxi-healing. I do a run on my Zer0 where I take parts from some gear to make other gear better, and let me tell you, a longbow area of effect grenade like a tesla, fire burst or the corrosive variant (icr the name rn) is absolutely amazing for me with a Rubi for staying alive, even a green one. Of course, I have to make sure I throw it at enemies far enough away from me to stay alive but... still. And if it's a tesla, I don't have to worry about that even, outside the initial and final shock bursts of the grenade.

Good to see you back in the game Derch, one item I saw you failed to take notice was a blue Anarchist pistol in like the 3rd run. Great dps pistols on the right characters.

Almost any AR with a Torgue barrel is usually worth some good money in all playthroughs.

I'm SOOO Glad Derch is back. I really missed these videos so much! I like that you show in this video that you don't HAVE to play with only top tier gear to play in the OP levels. There is regular gear that will get you through. I actually did a few threads in the forum about this very subject.

Some under rated rifles are the Dahl spin guns They don’t have a spin up and the burst is prety good

A bee shield can help farming the treants in Tiny Tina’s is really big help

I always do a few runs when I get to certain op levels since I can easily get stuff like a topnea or a pbfg and other nice things to have also I just got a perfect explosive relic

Unless you're going for some of the Tiny Tina coms the loot train is probably the best place to get a good choice of coms and relics- if you could get Blood/Heart/Skin of the Ancients from it it would make it the top one stop farming location- wonder if the UCP does anything like that?

Fifth run I would have considered the blue anarchist pistol, which might be a great short range face melter, but we didn’t get a good look at it.

Maybe you need to do the exact opposite of tgtbatu. This time focusing on normal guns rather than red text guns.

Well, good is a relative thing, beginner players might not realize what they have is good, and the situation they got in is bad. See, I was playing Gaige for shits and giggles yesterday and I had a pretty good blue Torgue launcher for my level, 5 minutes later in Opportunity, I was destroyed and my same-level Torgue launcher didn't even scratch the health of a normal gun loader. Then I respawned and tried again. Took 2 shots to deplete any shield, took 3 shots to kill a same-level shieldless fleshy, my entire rocket stock ran out to kill 2 gun loaders. Tried to do it for an hour, multiple rage quits. I just couldn't believe what was happening. Then I decided to make a run for it, save&exit, rinse&repeat. Left Opportunity, now, everything dies again as they are supposed to. I tend to play a lot from zero Anarchy, I got used to the power escalation pretty well. This wasn't the normal stuff. Those are the situations why beginner players don't have a grip on equipment. Even now I'm thinking about what makes everything bulletproof in Opportunity. Fleshies OUTSIDE Opportunity died in 2 mags of a Good Touch, fleshies INSIDE Opportunity eat up a dozen mag and ask for more. No idea, if I had a gun and tested it there first, I would have thrown it out of the window if I wouldn't know better.

That turtle shield in the beginning was Maliwan/Hyperion/Hyperion or all Hyperion, I think. Good stuff.

To start recognizing good weapons you just have to play commando to 72 without ever using an Harald :D And to understand really good gear you'll need to understand the way your gear works.

I just got a legendary siren com from farming the train and a lot of good weapons from both the train and the snow man so I highly recommend farming them and also be patient and that’s it good luck farming

Greetings!! No we understand good gear, bad gear and we also understand frustration and pointless waste of time and we fully understand that the loot system sucks!! I did 30 runs on level 72 yesterday. I got one legendary a Rolling Thunder. Boy I was so delighted I could cry..........And that is what is behind the statement.........I did not get any good stuff. Sure you can outfit yourself with some really good gear of the purple variety to play the next game level fairly easy........but the shame of it all is as the main game loot drops really suck we count on things like the train for gear..........such as yesterday I was specifically looking for a Purple Torque Assault Rifle with high fire rate and large magazine. This is not a legendary but still in 30 runs it never did show up. I play Maya and Gaige and I have a Gaige character I have been trying to outfit for two weeks and as she is an Anarchy build........looking for a Docs Longrider.............nope never shows. Some true examples: I farmed Savage Lee at level 72 for 100 runs. This takes a lot of time.........but hey I have time......Grin........just the same it only provides frustration with the game. I obtained 8 Unkempt Harold weapons........but none of them were a DPUH and all of them were two levels below my level. A couple were level 68. This really sucks. So off to see Knuckledragger............same story he drops a Hornet about every ten to twelve runs......but again they are two to four levels below my level and a standard purple variety corrosive pistol from the loot chest in Tundra Express is a better weapon. Because it is at my level. So a player works their way all the way to the Bunker.......kills the bunker and then as the game requires makes another run up the hill again.......to once again face the Bunker and after 71 runs........yes 71 runs there lies a Bitch........it is corrosive but it is level 68. AAARRRGGGG!!!! Give me a damm break!! So it is off to farm the four loot midgets at the Wildlife Preserve.......a whole day of this and I get only relics........yep no weapons........about two good relics and 50 plus worthless relics.....but all relics and no weapons. So it is off to do the Captain Scarlett DLC and after playing through the game we finally get the copy that floppy quest and stand in front of the robot that gives us the Pimpernel. I really want a fire elemental one............some four hours later and about two hundred loaders killed I get one. However I have to use an exploit to do this......close out of the game and over and over fight the loaders and stand in front of the robot again......over and over and over and over and over........Well the game should allow players to choose what they want, just put all the varieties up for choice..........this game creates extreme frustration so cheating, exploits and Gib is understandable. I love BL2, a great game......but also a very frustrating game.......I have killed Jack and the Warrior how many times?? I dunno......but I have never seen a Conference Call. Never. Not from the Warrior. I always get......THE MASK OF JACK. Hey developers I have a suggestion as to what you can do with that mask......just use your imagination!!! Grin!! I have to go see the Handsome Sorcerer for a legit fair and square Conference Call. Or I can simply have someone build me one and give it to me......... No we understand.......very well. Just like my 30 runs yesterday and I got a Rolling Thunder. I was so delighted I almost cried. Yes we understand perfectly and after looking at 2000 grenade mods with 3 second fuse times........it gets old. Very, very old. Personally I get better loot and gear from the Red Chest at the Tundra Express, and the Red Chest in the Highlands where Ole Slappy spawns......I simply never do Hammerlocks Peaceful quest so I can farm that chest in peace. The Torque DLC has three red chests that will give you very good purple weapons also. Much more reliable than the loot train. Paying attention Gearbox?? Are you listening?? BL3 is on the way.........how about pay attention..........Farming Doc Mercy 43 times for an Infinity is not fun........it is frustration. And give us a damm storage chest......so we do not have to create characters and call them storage mule.............I have six storage mules to support two main game characters so if I want to start a new one from scratch I have decent gear to give them. Well let me shut up........but like I said........I understand and I am so happy about that Rolling Thunder after 30 runs I may go out and have a party today.........Grin. Cheers!!

People just don't understand the power of non red text items. People are too quick to write off a really good standard drop just because there isn't a game breaking gimmick to it.

years late to the party here, but as a player going through BL2 on a new character in 2022, I think the biggest issue with benchmarking loot is that beehawking requires almost no RNG grind(The trees are pretty damn generous with the bee) and outperforms 95% of random loot against the bosses you're farming that random loot from. Even here, you're just beehawking instead of using any of the loot you find that you say is great, and if the player's goal is to upgrade their loot what are they testing their new loot against? The boss they're farming for loot. And yes, beehawking isn't super great against mobbing because it's very easy to lose your bee bonus, but I'm still struggling to see the point of mobbing unless you're farming tubbies or loot midgets for their unique drops in the late endgame by which point you should have an inventory full of legendary guns to choose from that you got from farming bosses.

I think the reason so many players new to UVHM don't know how to gear themselves is because they see the efficiency in optimized, fully farmed op8 builds and think that they need to have that and breeze through op8 to be doing it right. In reality they need to learn to appreciate the simpler things in life, the things that can get the job done, however unoptimized they may be. Moreover they also need to be able to understand their character and how to make the best of what they can get with said character.

The purple Blurred Trickster com i currently use i found in the chest on the way to the snowman, i have found many decent com's in that chest, it's the best shitty chest in the game imo, always worth a check.

I do agree with your overall point but a lot of the gear wasn’t necessarily as good as you made it out to be. Usually at the end game you are looking for perfect gear. A tediore e-tech launcher isn’t bad but it doesn’t hold a candle to a topneea or pbfg, which most people will be undoubtedly looking for. I usually use the train for the aforementioned launchers, legendary or blue coms, and purple rarity relics. All of which drop commonly. I wish this kind of loot was behind a more difficult raid boss so as to make it more worthwhile. I also like the style of a somewhat predictable loot pool where you know what kind of items you’re going to get but their rarity and parts being randomized. That way if I’m looking for certain items I know what boss to go to.

Hey Derch, I have a question about farming the train, I hope you can help. I just started uvhm, and while its not destroying me per se, I do notice my weapons getting irrelevant quicker. I have a lv 55 Axton. How does this area scale in uvhm? If I go in now, will i render the train useless for later levels? Or will it always scale with me so i can come back whenever I need to update my gear? I don't want to make things harder on myself later by completing missions too early and ruining the rewards.

Cant believe people actually complain about the train chest. I got 4 legendaries consecutively and on the third one i actually got two legendary soldier class mods at once.

wow!! what a wonderful looting! every run a trickster and 2-3 transfusion grenade! cartel sniper (one of my fav non-uniq sniper rifle), quad!!, topnea!! resolute blaster!! and even the leech (!!!!!!!) maybe i forgot something. but it's great! i love transfusion grenades!!! gonna go loot snowman immediately! )))))) i used to loot uranus. got legendary siren, kerblaster, emperor, plasma caster, hornet, hybridification sniper, rail sniper, lyuda (my love), bonus package, pandemia, disinfection, electric fkn chair (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and some legendary shield i forgot i sold it (3+5 runs) uranus has first 3 runs best and than worse and worse and snowman as i see keeps good loot. gonna kill some snowmans!!! thank you!! ))))

well i dont have a problem of not getting any good loot, im just frustrate of the amount of ppl sayin Etech will drop most of the time with snowman while i had farming for 4 days and at least 3 hrs per day and i not seeing any etech

I find tediore shotguns to very powerful on Hellborn Krieg. So they're VERY good in my opinion.

you can literally beat the game with an class from 0 to 72 just with harold, grog nozzle, chain lightning. the only hard part is TVHM cuz loot doesnt scale with you and you cant refarm your low level guns. But a lvl 35 harold still destroys lvl 50 enemies XD
