This video identifies the ethical dilemma entailed in being aware that the personality is multiple, that exiles seek release from their burdens, yet having no access to training opportunities. Various recommendations are put forward. Also presented is the inevitability of healing when using the IFS model, and how our toxic ideology supports the internalisation of shame and othering.
The necessity of coupling personal healing with social justice is clarified and realistic hope for how we may respond to current and future crises is outlined.

I love the piece highlighting the burden of social constructs creating difference as “less than” and “wrong” as a way of protectors managing the exiles holding shame. That is powerful on its own on many levels. This model is building many “compassion warriors” ❤

Derek, thank you for this video. It's so moving it brought me to tears. All you're talking about is really up to date, especially taking into account the nowaday situation in my country (Russia). I'm currently doing a course in IFS with two certified IFS therapists and waiting for my turn on a waiting list for a certified IFS training. Hope our society will become healthier when more people's exiles are healed. Alina

Hi Alina, I have been learning Russian with an online teacher now, for almost 4 years (grammar has been difficult for me to grasp). I am currently at an A2 or B1 Level. However, I need experience speaking and listening. Would you, by chance, know anyone (even an elderly person) who might be willing to spend time talking with me? Or, even a younger person who would like to learn English so that we can speak English and Russian together to practice? Thank you for any possible suggestions!

Thank you for this. So enlightening. As much as learning about IFS. I loved the last ten - fifteen minutes. 'Once the "less than" has been cleared, there's no need to be 'better than'. Sorry if I've quoted wrong. Love it ❤

Thank you so much. The video came up just as I woke up to do my unburdening ❤ absolutely resonate with the feeling of understanding unkind parts of others with compassion after healing. I have experienced that 2 years ago. Tragedy struck again in my life and now I am healing parts with serious anxiety and grief. Very helpful Derek 🙏

Your presentations on IFS are brilliant Derek. Between your work and that of Loch Kelly I feel I have everything I need to finally heal the trauma wounds I've carried my whole life. Yes, I've trained as a psychotherapist and have years of exploring non-dual teachings of both Buddhism and Hinduism. In many ways all of that seems simply the introduction I needed to avail myself of what you and Loch so generously share... all of it within the frame of Internal Family Systems. I have been sharing your videos and will certainly share this. Thank you.

Derek, thank you for all of your videos in which you so clearly and compassionately describe and illustrate the IFS Model and it’s many values and benefits. I’d love to have some sessions with you! My immediate question is, is there an IFS Application in Organizations? Specifically, so many organizations, as an example, hold a corporate value, or a cultural imperative, around the need for Teamwork. This is clearly based upon all of the research done since the 1950s that demonstrate the significance of people working together to communicate, build relationships, solve problems creatively, plan strategically, etc. However, I have yet to meet an organizational psychologist, or consultant, who has the courage to address internal team conflict using the IFS Model when it seems so appropriate. I have worked with teams in the past and have seen how parts (one or several team members) will shame, or even exile, another part (or member), especially if that member characteristically is “annoying” for whatever reason. Once, a Director even described a team member of hers as a curmudgeon; not understanding or valuing that this person can make very valid points in discussions and contribute significantly to team outcomes. Instead, she expected me to go in and “put him in his place” (and probe why he needed to be exiled). I have also, literally, seen members (with exiled parts) within teams being triggered by managers (because of what they said, and/or how they said it) and when the employee acts out aggressively, feeling extremely hurt; the manager will simply conclude that this person is not a “team player,” and shame them by taking disciplinary action or writing something negative in the person’s performance review effecting their chances for any future salary increases, promotion, etc. Again, I’m curious to learn if there is an IFS Application in organizations for team building, communications, problem-solving, leadership, etc.? Thank you.
