People are half listening to what is being said and when he says at the end 'reach up and grab this exciting opportunity' then all the subliminal prompts are triggered and they react and think 'hey, maybe I can win something, I'm not sure what but better to be in it to win it'

I usually enjoy these, but this is unbelievable. Listening to an advert over and over again isn't going to make you raise your arm at random. Like many others, I suspect some raised their arms in the crowd as per prior instruction, so others followed suit. I don't claim to be a psychology expert or anything, but this seems like a much more plausible explanation to me.

could this be some kind of video editing? One perceived them as a logical and forward-time progressing sequence. It could be making a few cuts on Derren's "hypnotic speech" together with a few "actors" fake interviews. The hands-up might be - one scenario I speculate - Derren recruited 20 odd persons to join for some activities (he constantly does that I believe). They were told to gather in the shopping area at a particular time. Some came early and mingled with the real crowd. Derren might be asking the ones he recruited to raise the hands - but that part was not filmed - and then the recruited persons raised up their hands were taken and cut after Derren's hypnotic speech. Aren't we all deceived by TV ads, movies,... that way daily?

The hidden words in the sentences may have helped Derren get what he wanted, but my guess is Derren PAID a few dozen people to lift up their arms, and those around them noticed and just followed. This type of test was done in the US with people staring up in the sky, so others around them in curiosity looked up as well, as those extra people looked up, many others noticed this and more looked up. This is known as herd/mob mentality.
