Destiny 2: Coach Datto Teaches You to Get Good - Analyzing Master Lost Sector Gameplay

Analyzing viewer gameplay is something that I've been experimenting on stream for the past couple of weeks. The point of this was to see what exactly people are doing wrong in certain pieces of content and see why they are struggling. Sometimes, it's not enough to give you a list of things to make a build if you don't actually know how to use it. At the same time, some people who may complain about something like Lost Sector difficulty are likely 1) underleveled, 2) using a bad loadout, 3) don't know how to use the build they've set up, or 4) all of the above. So, let's take a look at some footage and analyze what goes right and what goes wrong.
I'm not gonna lie, I am anticipating this video to perform quite poorly for MANY reasons, some toxic (most people don't want to practice), some not (this video is very long). If my assumption is correct, this will be the only video I do, but I will likely still do some of it on my streams, which will be uploaded to the stream archive channel. Regardless, I am absolutely looking for feedback on this particular video. I'd love to know what you want to see more of, see less of, etc. I would also love to see group play, like Master or GM Nightfalls or raids.

It’s funny, after watching some videos from players like Esoterick you can kinda start thinking that’s just normal gameplay. In a lot of his solo videos, he goes pretty slow and methodical and it’s easy to think “oh that’s not that hard” until you do it yourself and whiff rockets, overthrow grenades, or get yourself cornered because you didn’t clear some specific enemies. It’s the consistency of rarely missing shots, being patient, and knowing what to attack and when to attack it.

yea i think high skilled players have to understand, that we mastered stuff as they came out. I can't imagine being my mates who have recently started, and having to learn absolutely everything now. Like for me, i mastered all classes in d1, and have evolved as the game too has evolved. A new player just doesn't have the experience to understand spawns or optimal nade placement and stuff

For Overloads, if you stand on ground that an Overload cannot walk to, they'll stop charging you and slowly walk back to their spawn point. This is incredibly useful in, say, Perdition, when trying to isolate the 2nd Overload. This is where you can make it charge back toward the 1st Overload's spawn, stand on the middle platform to make it slowly walk back, and then step off to make it charge you again before it can go back upstairs.

@@JL32506 i think a big part of it is the gulf in content difficulty between patrol zones and vanguard versus higher level content that's existed for a very long time until now. You didn't have to actually TRY in that other content and it builds very bad habits. I don't think it's self-explanatory at all if you spent a lot of time doing that easier content, thought you were good at the video game, and then decided to try harder stuff. first and most important tip: just wait for EDZ/Dreaming City/Europa lost sector with drops that you need. they take 3-4 times less time to complete than the newer ones. if you want to test your build or improve your skill - then newer ones are pretty good, but they are not meant to be farmed, there's no way anyone would spend 8 minutes per lost sector 30 times in a row to get no drops at all.

I think it would be nice if your gameplay section was on the same class as the viewers to show how someone could do a run without needing a different class since some players only run one character. Not sure how feasible that is for you to do though. Outside of that, I love the idea behind videos like this

He is doing this analysis on players gameplays and giving them tips on what to improve/change, basically being a coach for that specific player. This is not a general guide for all subclasses on this specific strike.

@@eduardoceron4636 No I understand that, but since he included his own gameplay in this video, I was just suggesting that it could be done on the same class as the viewers so there can be a direct comparison for people watching

My biggest learning curve, which has made GMs and Master Raiding so easy, was learning Overload and Barrier stun windows. Barriers, its all about anticipating the shield, so that your anti-barrier shot is proc'd in advance. So many times with the Viewer Gameplay, they were only pulling out Wishender IN RESPONSE to the anti-barrier popping its shield. Barrier will always pop its shield once you tick like 20-25% of its health, know that, tick the damage to when you think the barrier will shield, and get ready for it. Overloads, its the same, but knowing how long the stun window lasts. Match the Overloads aggression with your own aggression, you get a 3ish second window, you can do a lot of damage in that time, plus there is a short delay between the stun ending and the health regen starting. Know your timings with barriers and you can bait and trivialise their mechanics.

Alright Datto, I absolutely love this style of video. I was recently watching the buildcrafting videos you've recently released, and I feel like I couldn't quite understand what mods I should run because I wasn't sure how they would work in-game. This type of video is much more down-to-earth for me and more easily understood. I can take this information and better understand ways I can improve my gameplay mechanically, even if my build hasn't been perfected. I can't wait to see more of these.

I love this not just for helping people figure out how to improve, but as someone trying to get into being a Sherpa more often it's helpful just to see your advice and clarity on giving those tips as well

This helps a ton because we are getting to see players who are not top tier and just melting everything down. We can get some insight on what to do differently. The builds help but seeing them in action or where we might be falling short on utilizing them is a huge help. I see these builds and can't them to work as well and this helps me to see why they are or are not working. Thanks Datto and whoever submits gameplay.

Honestly what this shows me is how stupid it is that overloads have immunity for an eternity after being stunned and it confuses the hell out of anyone who doesn't go online. Overloads aren't fun for those who know how to deal with them and are outright walls for those who don't, can't believe they never get touched in patches.

You say that as if the person in the video doesnt very obviously need the help. Considering how many people shit and moan about the difficulty of lost sectors this person is probably at the average level of most destiny players

Very helpful video. I'm comfortable with Lost Sectors but theres a lot to think about for further optimising my runs. I've actually been trying to tell a bunch of these same things to a couple friends who consistently struggle with Lost Sectors but I sent them the video and hopefully you're the better messenger to get things across. Good work!

Would definitely watch more of these. Should make this a weekly series since there are so many different PVE situations and and activities that would benefit from having some breakdowns. I would definitely be down for more Coach Datto.

Loved the video! I think the video of you doing the lost sector directly after watching someone else do it was super useful. Also good to see other classes as well! Of course it’s not always possible but was nice to see here as a hunter main

I really appreciated this gameplay breakdown. There are so many little things that players can be unaware of that more experienced/active players don't even think about anymore (I didn't realize you could do a little panic-plink on a Barrier champ to stop them regenning their health). Would love to see more of this :)

i do hope this video format pops well enough for ya, Datto! with the expected content dry-seasons to come, this can definitely fill your time and (with reluctance to sound like a marketer) drive audience engagement, too, hopefully. And with seasonal metas always in flux, there's always gunna be players who will wanna learn where they may be under-performing and returning players who need a more thorough examination of the game's current sandbox. massively enjoyed it!
