On CNN, a film propmaster named two ways the "aims at the camera" shot can be done safely. One, they get the shot they need just blocking the actor in place, turning on the camera, clearing everyone away from the camera, getting the shot, and then the gun is safed and the crew returns. The other way is to have the camera set up at 90-degrees and using a mirror at 45-degrees. Also, ONLY the propmaster and actor are supposed to handle the guns, and the actor is not supposed to mess around with it (open it, drop the magazine, cock/uncock, rack bolts, etc). You could have a scene with 20 guys on set with firearms, and you can just imagine the potential for disaster if all of them start fooling around with them while they're setting up the scene. The propmaster is responsible for clearing the guns and handing them off to the actors, who take the word of the propmaster.

@@mikek9297 You read a mile into the inch I stated... If anything there should be MORE gun safety on acting sets precisely because of this type of outcome (my opinion is that live firearms shouldn't be used on set, let alone live ammo (I can't understand how live ammo rather than blanks would be necessary)). That said, wide-spanning gun reform enforced to solve specific problems is not the answer, and this situation is far removed in terms of practical solutions to the one you espoused. The incidence rate of misuse of firearms within families that practice preventive safety training is less than 1% of those who do not. The same statistic pretty much holds true, to a lesser degree for other tools/equipment in industry. I'd be all for mandated training prior to distribution of firearms (I underwent training for my conceal carry prior to purchasing mine, for instance, and regularly train on a range due to the responsibility I believe retaining such a tool comes with).

This is so cringe. As someone who has worked in the film industry professionally let me spell it out: It is not the actors responsibility to make sure a prop is safe or not. It's the prop master or armourer's responsibility. These aren't treated like guns because the actor doesn't know if they are real guns or not. It's a prop... It could be a fake gun, a real gun, a real gun that's been adjusted to look like a fictional gun, whatever. Same thing applies to other props. But it's up to the prop master to make sure they get everyone on the same page about how safe or unsafe the props the actor is using are. The assistant director also has responsibility if they bypassed the person who knows what they're meant to be using. It's not, I repeat NOT, up to the actor. 🤦🏻♂️

Regardless if it was murder or manslaughter, a person died and it was the result of Alec Baldwin shooting her. Whenever you handle a firearm, or hand it to someone, always open the action immediately, and visually check the chamber, receiver and magazine to be certain they do not contain any ammunition. Always keep actions open when not in use. Never assume a gun is unloaded. This is without exception and should be taught to actors as occupational safety training whenever the hazard presents itself, i.e. whenever the weapon would be handled. A film producer is a person that initiates, coordinates, supervises and MANAGES the creation and production of movies. If her whole point is that Baldwin is more of a danger due to lacking the necessary understanding to distinguish between these two situations such that one could consider seeing him as holding no accountability, her distinction between these two conditions is rather clear to me. @gondotheslayer2 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of people could misconstrue certain things, but I do think the equivocation to the Rittenhouse story is incorrect. Primarily, because the person liable was most likely Rittenhouse if you were arguing homicide by negligent use of a dangerous weapon. My understanding is that a 17-year-old crossed state lines with a dangerous weapon in a state where it is a misdemeanor to possess said dangerous weapon, and therefore was negligent in the handling of the firearm, just by being in possession of it. We knew all of this at the time Destiny made statements on Rittenhouse, compared to a movie set where it is common for employees to handle weapons, and an accidental discharge occurred leaving the question of liability way up in the air. I know a lot of people were making comments that what Rittenhouse did was a 1st-degree homicide or something stupidly similar, but I find this no different to Destiny's comments on Rittenhouse they are both incorrect. Just by having a dangerous weapon where it is in violation of the law is negligent regardless if the discharge would be legal if they were above the age of 18, therefore they negligently contributed to the death of a person.
@darkusandtoast22072 жыл бұрын
@@gondotheslayer, have you watched a video on Rittenhouse? But just cause I can. Rittenhouse was 17 with an assault weapon who crossed state boarders. Although he was only 20 minutes away from where he lived in the other state while those you got shot lived 40min-hour away. So how big of a deal is up to you. Next is the lead up. Assuming you don't know anything. Rittenhouse grouped up with a bunch of people who stationed them selves under the idea of stoping protesters from looting and destroying their community business. Rittenhouse was filmed guarding places and also applying first aid to protesters. The shootings. The interaction starts when several men were trying to push a large metal garbage container that was on fire (I think into a gas station). Rittenhouse then uses a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. One man did not like this and got aggressive and stated Chasing Rittenhouse. After running for a bit (cross the street and like two buildings) someone shot 2 shots into the air (20ft behind Rittenhouse). Then Rittenhouse turns around and shoots the chaser (was within 5 feet) (dead) (happened to be a child predator). Then Rittenhouse called a friend (should of called cops). Rittenhouse then starts running to the police line. People are upset and chase after Rittenhouse. Skate boarder nocks Rittenhouse down. Rittenhouse still down gets kicked by black guy, black guy runs off. Skate boarder comes back, gets shot (dead). Man with pistol runs up to Rittenhouse with hands up, then points gun at Rittenhouse, Rittenhouse shoots (hits arm, disabled man with pistol). Rittenhouse finally gets up while still aiming at crowd. Then turns and continues running to police line. Gets to police line and is not heard and informed to go home to stop breaking curfew. Few hours later in home state Rittenhouse turns himself in. That's at least my memory of a year ago and I don't know how much you know (most people wouldn't look it up). Thus just curious on your thoughts.

Even though technically/legally it wasn't Baldwin's responsibility to clear the firearm, the woman makes a good point that anyone who respects a real firearm properly would check to see if the gun is loaded before pointing it in the general direction of another human being. Even though they may not be required to do this, they would know how dangerous a firearm can be if anything should go wrong so they would check for themselves or have the armorer show them it's clear for their own peace of mind. Of course there will always be exceptions to the rule where checking it may not be feasible, but in this case it was pretty simple and straight forward. If Baldwin had a general respect for firearms he would probably have quickly made sure there is nothing in the chamber before proceeding. There is still a chance he could be charged with something like reckless endangerment if the jury decides that he was acting in a manner where a reasonable human being would have known that his actions have a higher than acceptable risk of causing harm, but I don't think they would convict him. In the end, it seems that the crew members who were responsible for placing the live rounds in the gun are primarily to blame as they should never have been there in the first place. The set armorer is also to blame seeing as they clearly did not check the firearm before handing it to Baldwin and told him it was clear.

He was an actor who was told by an armorer it was a cold gun. It wasn't his responsibility to check it, that's literally why they have an armorer so an actor doesn't have to learn how to use a gun. Gun protocol on set isn't the same as actual world gun safety. If anyone is to be held responsible, it has to be the person who was supposed to check the gun, which would be the armorer, yelling cold gun, when it wasn't. From what I've read, she checked, they went to lunch off set & she didn't check it when they got back. That tells me she either missed it the 1st time, got it confused with 1 of the other 3 guns being used, or somebody put a working round into the gun. The right just wants to push dishonest garbage, because Baldwin hates Trump & mocked him in a TV show.

The thing that pisses me off about the whole "he should have checked that the gun wasn't loaded" talking point is that in this instance it is super likely that the gun was intended to be loaded with fake rounds. He is using a revolver and pointing it at the camera in what seems to be a relatively close-up shot since he was talking to the people behind the camera. Depending on the type of revolver, you might be able to see if the gun is loaded or not from the front of the gun, so you'd probably load it with fake rounds to make it appear loaded. This is super likely to be the case here. If it is, how the fuck is he supposed to verify that the gun isn't loaded when it's intended to look convincingly loaded for the sake of the shot? Even if he did look at it, he's a fucking actor. I wouldn't trust an actor to differentiate between real rounds and realistic fake ones. That's why you have actual firearm experts checking it.
@Seinglede2 жыл бұрын
@@thevoidzzz Yes, I am aware. However, I wasn't talking about blanks. I'm talking about dummy rounds. Blanks absolutely look different, but there are times in a scene where having ammunition that does look like real ammunition but aren't actually live rounds might be important. For example, a scene in which a character is loading bullets into a gun, or a situation where you want to make a revolver appear loaded from the outside. In those instances you wouldn't use blanks, you would use some sort of fake bullet. Often times you make these by just removing the powder from a real round and using the empty cartridge with the bullet still attached. In the event that this method was being used, a real bullet with the powder and primer removed, you would absolutely want an expert to be the one in charge of determining the safety of handling those bullets. Based on this article (www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2021/10/rust-shooting-alec-baldwin-halyna-hutchins) it seems as though live ammunition was somehow mixed in with dummy rounds on the set and one was accidentally loaded into the gun. There is also mention of a search warrant suggesting that all the bullets except the one that was fired were dummy rounds where the powder inside was removed through a hole in the side of the cartridge, with the one that was discharged appearing to be real ammo that was loaded accidentally, so it seems like I was probably correct in this instance. If this information is accurate, then the fake rounds and real rounds would look almost identical at a cursory glance and you would definitely want somebody with experience and training handling them just in case.
@msfair36252 жыл бұрын
So if an 8 year old actor on the set of The Walking Dead was handed a gun by the armorer & told it was safe & it ended up firing a live round, that's the actor's fault? The kid should have checked it? It would be the responsibility of the person hired to handle firearms, it's literally their job. It's not the actor's job to check firearms. Someone said he's been doing this 40 years? Doing what, having guns handed to him that were checked by someone else that never fired a live round or killed anybody, so it was safe to assume this would be no different? Safety issues that caused the walkout were about masks/covid & maybe as a producer he'll be culpable, but speaking strictly of his role as an actor, it's not his responsibility.

I've noticed recently that Destiny has spoken to people who are either so good at pretending they are completely missing the point or they are actually missing the point. I have this issue with people quite often, what tends to happen is you have to just stop and wash away all of the shower of shit they have filled the conversation with, they are protecting something they know not to be true to themselves with layers and layers of words. Once you've reset yourself and ask a "yes or no" building block question in order to establish some common grounds to work from they just break! Because they know they can't possibly start again from scratch and construct the same argument. This is where the jibberish comes fully into play, they will try to build the argument from the outside in again, they were only existing in the layers of words that hid the centralised point. Edit: The "yes or no" question in this instance was something along the lines of "Do you think 'should' and 'should be allowed to' are the same thing" this is where the conversation was ultimately going to have to reset and start again from the perspective of liability. A simple question and I was happy when destiny asked it, I thought "there it is, the pin" and she just turned in a complete opposite direction. 1:07:00 If someone could please timestamp that in the reply.

I agree and I would add that people like this woman have a huge stakes to lose sometimes if they conceded their points or don't follow their script of prepared answers. Im pretty sure she would lose a lot of her conservative followers if she looked at this shooting situation in a non biased way. It could also be an ego thing where the person cannot admit they are wrong for fear of how they might look to others
@samsapper26582 жыл бұрын
@@godiebeard I'm certain that also comes into play. It's one in the same.
