Imagine how much better Predator 2 would be if they had cast Dolph Lundgren as Schaefer and called it Predator concrete jungle. This was actually an idea that got bounced around for awhile and it's why the film I Come in Peace/Dark Angel eventually got made.

Mike Hansen I remember my uncle telling me the same thing. I figured that he didn't do it because "I Come In Peace" came out. Keep in mind I was between 10 and 12 at the time and didn't know better

Very entertaining and detailed video. Nice to know that Dutch has family and was not the only one to come across the Yautja species. It would be interesting to see more of the Schaefer family in comics, books and maybe even future Predator movies.

Read 'Concrete Jungle' more than 10 years ago, that bit about the 'god damned coffee mug handles facing the same direction' was the part that stuck out. I don't understand the random presence of an SA-80 rifle in Schaefer's right hand in one of the comic screen cap, it's a British Army issue assault rifle that was only exported to one or two countries (not the US) so certainly wasn't likely to appear in NYC in either police or criminal hands.

He was definitely my favorite character of the Predator comics. To be honest I only had seen him in Dark River but really enjoyed his character and bloodline connection to the first film.

That first Dark Horse Predator story was the first graphic novel I ever bought as a kid. Love Cold War to, with all four issues covers making one long continuous picture. Schaefer was badass.

I don't think there's enough actors that could take the workout they would need to take to look THAT macho... I mean it just wouldn't be right if it wasn't a guy who could stand shoulder to shoulder with Arnie in his prime from Predator 1.

Great video! I loved these Predator stories and agree with some of the comments here that the Concrete Jungle story should have been used as the basis for Predator 2. I hope Dark Horse should bring back the Schaefer brothers! Keep up the good work with the videos!

I would actually want to see him in the movies. And I think it could actually work if Arnold now in his age as the Lieutenant because nowadays he looks more like him than Dutch. Not to mention that the explosion that the Predator did in the first movie was nuclear which means that Dutch might have died due to radiation. Causing the Lieutenant to go into a quest of revenge for many years.

Dolph Lundgren I COME IN PEACE almost feels like this character. I really like this character. As of MARCH 2021, THIS Schaefer has made a comeback.

When I first saw AVP I thought it seemed a bit uneven until I heard Predator fans complaining that the much admired female Asian protaginist was swapped out for a newly introduced unknown black character in the film. I seriously doubt the original Concrete Jungle would survive the constant rewrites needed to shoe horn the story into the current Hollywood approved ideal for today's action films. Without changing its protagonists gender or race (…or having to trot out the Rock AGAIN) and they already did that for the Predator sequel. Although Danny Glover’s portrayal was mostly well received critic Roger Ebert was already claiming the creature design had “racist undertones”. The now defunct Cannon Films may have been able to put out something with Jungle’s original story intact. During their heyday they were producing schlock but with an occasional serious Oscar and Golden Globe winner in the mix all at the same.

I think the reason detective Schaefer never made it to the big screen is because the movie producers wanted to make the Predator sequels more accessible to people that hadn’t seen the first movie. They wanted a series that people could start at any point without being totally lost, keeping their interest enough to get them to watch the other movies

Schaefer did come back in Predator Hunters 3 issue 2. And...he claims he took things too seriously....he smiles. It's...SUPER WEIRD! But I guess its suppose to take place many many years after Concrete Jungle and people change.

Who else here would love to see a retro style late 80's Predator movie with Alan Ritchson (aka Jack Reacher) as Detective Schaefer ? I think Alan Ritchson would make a worthy match, and I would love to see old gimmicks from the 80ies again, like girls wearing perms and a headband, and on top of that the headphones to a Walkman The Casettes would be playing Michael Jacksons "Thriller" whilst the Predator is on the prowl. What I would really like to see though, is more "special" agents and more cloak and dagger goings on surrounding Schaefers missing brother Dutch, and what else this secretive organisation is trying to hide. Anyone interested ?

I hope detective scahefer appear in a fifth predator movie based on comic books adaptation concrete jungle. That way,we fans will find out what happened to Dutch Schaefer while his brother is looking for him. I hope shane black write a script for that idea!!!,I want to explore more on why Dutch disappear after the events of predator.

I believe this story arc could've worked as a movie. The Predator 2 we got was lackluster at best. Having the familial connection would've grounded the movie and set it up for success. I will admit I need to get my hands on these graphic novels. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, sir. But I thought Dutch was a Major? As always, keep up the magnificent work!

had a random thought about something alien related and wondered what everyone though. (also dont know if this has been discussed before) In Alien Covenant we see one of the crew fight off one of the face huggers off and survives to get back to the ship. later we see he is killed and they think the alien came from him. well that makes me think then. he was not impregnated the same way as we see with others, the face huger was only able to grab a hold for a few seconds, not camp on like we see in every other account. I then thought about this and realized that if he could be impregnated this way then why not Ripley in ALIENS. One of the face hugers that came after her and newt grabs her for only a few seconds and then is pulled off. This could help with the facehugger issue in ALIEN 3. Why were there two aliens? one in Riply and one in the dog but how if there was only one face hugger, because Ripley is already impregnated but the one in Aliens. they think they got it off in time but dont know that the face huger could get an instant impregnation to happen like in Covenant.

Why did they drop the ball with this?? I didn't even know that this was actually in discussion for movie adaptation. Dolph Lundgren would've been perfect! Don't get me wrong, I actually liked the second predator movie, Danny Glover was great as well as Bill Paxton. The whole cast was great. But this would've made way more sense story-wise.

Unless the story explained through detective work that, like the Predators Dutch’s family could have more worthy adversaries and that’s why his brother is involved. Other than that, the movie would see silly. I just had a thought, at first we were told that Dutch wouldn’t be in the new Predator movie, but things have changed with reshoots. Maybe what these new soldiers are being taken to is the same place that Dutch has been held. Maybe much like breaking Captain Price out of jail in Modern Warfare2 These new unimpressive people need Dutch to beat the upgraded Predator? Just a thought.

I'm afraid we as Fan's probably want get anything we want from a predator or alien film ever again. maybe in comic books and video games and god knows it took long enough just to get alien isolation as far as the video games go I think that means we just have to hold closer and more dear all the good stuff we have gotten.but with that said the new predator movie seems to be more and more promising with each new little bit of information we get but I'm not getting my hopes up because god knows I got my hopes up for alien covenant and as it did have it's good moments it left more questions than answers and did not live up to the hype and promise even more disappointing that Scott was the one to put the final nail in the coffin.i mean as a serious fan of the franchise if he couldn't fix the series than who can I mean it's going to take a lot of hard core Fan's and probably a soft reboot to save alien as for predator I guess we will have to see when it hits.

Hello, Alien Theory. I'm writing this comment for you and I hope you read it, but I may have just found something interesting about a strange Alien rip-off/spin-off movie called Aliens vs Zombies: the dark lurking and I thought you would be interested and maybe you could do a video about it. So about a month ago I was searching the internet for some alien and predator comics and then I found a strange offer for an Alien movie that I never even heard off and I have name above this comment. I didn't buy it of course because I was afraid that it was a scam, but later I got curious and found a few things about. Its supossedly an Australian made spin-off of the alien franchise but I could barely find anymore information about the plot and the people involved with it and reviews were vague and came in languages that i can't read. So I'd like to ask you if you ever heard of this and if not could you try to find more information about it. And for anyone else who reads this, tell me if you know about this strange movie.

sounds like a superficial character, without significant interest, other than people interested in bloodshed. It is difficult to find interesting characters in the PREDATOR universe. The PREDATOR's are themselves, superficial characters with interest only in bloodshed. The PREDATOR series needs to be more than monster movies. They got lucky with the first movie, and then they got lucky with Dark Horse Comics. "Depressing."
