At 1:25 the video show the old Highland Park Police Headquarters. for those who don't know it, highland park is a separate city, and not a part of Detroit. It is actually a city located inside of a city. It has its own borders, and government. The same goes for Hamtramck, a city within a city.

Detroit has been like this for 20 years. Nothing's changed, at all. The areas around it are doing well. The private sectors in it (The DMC hospital system for example) are world class. The city itself, along with the public venues and residents are what are the "great slum"

I'm sure that the "new beginning" post-bankruptcy will turn everything around. A year from now, Detroit will once again be the world's leader in industrial production.

Most US cities have been shrinking since the fifties, people are moving into every growing suburbs and jobs are following them. Detroit has it so much worse because of how it's economy was planned: manufacturing. It just cannot compete with India and China.

Slash the benefits and pensions of all the police force as well as the Firemen. All City staff should take a similar cut in pensions etc. too much money going their way adds to the problem.

Detroit is the most spectacular example of urban blight and it's the poster child for liberal governance. The loss of labor-intensive manufacturing, huge unfunded liabilities and white flight caused a collapse. Other big cities faced and overcame crises before undergoing revivals, but Detroit refused to change. Ed Rendell and Rudy Giuliani showed it was possible to govern places thought ungovernable, but Detroit's Democrat politicians were involved in criminal conspiracies rather than reform.

no one is complaining about how much the politicians and banks are making off of this , if you take all the jobs and keep sending them overseas every major city will be like detroit soon enough, they have a team in every major sport ,that has won a title over the last 15 yrs. where is all that revenue going,

Big thumbs up because i think you are right. Dysfunctional democracy with only two parties and most votes deleted will not work. Do not delete votes and set up representative democracy with 5 or more parties. And 4 years is such a fad, cut it down to 2 year terms. i hate these 4 years terms.

In the words of Ziggy Marley, "Who - - shall be next . . . " Kenya has Kibara a great slum and now the West has Detroit. This is the first thing to show that the West is on the road to Greece and/or moving in the direction of many parts of the developing world . . . brace yourselves, things may get a bit bumpy shortly.

interesting, how a city that size can go down. With good infrastructure and competent police, this would not happen. But in the USA the priority is the military. They love their four armies too much, yes they have four armies: The Army, the Navy, the Marines, and the CIA. And 3 of these armies have nuclear weapons. They really pay a lot for it, dont they? Poor education, flawed healthcare. The USA needs to grow up. So much money invested in (maybe) destroying others, and starving itself.

how can you say its not about africans working to make a change? africa has been realitively independent for a short time most african countries have been independent for about 60 years and even after independence their resources were still in control of europe not to mentions the dept those countries started with and look at what dept is doing to europe. africa is deciding with which contries to work with like china so yes its about africans working to make a change sorry if you cant grasp that

Really? Then how do you explain certain countries in europe that keep getting worse every year like spain, italy, greece, and portugal, and irland. those countries should have declare bankruptcy long ago and those contries barly have a black population. also that fact that every year african countries are improving in their standard of living. in fact by 2050 africans are expected to reach the average life span of 75, the average life span of most africans use to be 40 now it is around 56

Thats great i understand what your saying but africans are making a progress of there own not just because whites are coming over to help. Again overall westerns interest in africa is for their own benefit not africa so lets not pretend. i dont want to make this a race thing i think thats stupid so i appolgize if my comment seem like that but over all what i said was true western nations are crubling and africa is progressing because there are africans working to make a change.

Black leaders and black community I think we know how's the problem and I am not racist! also welfare offices need to hire other races to work their most of them are black and they tend to help their own people more than others that its why more black people are in welfare! than others because they are not black and their applications get denied! because of only black workers! what happened to equality in work? or maybe its just in CA! sorry! I dint wanted too sound racist but its the true! :(
