There is no telling where Fallout will take us next, but we can dream! We first look at Detroit, does this city and the surrounding areas have what it takes to make a good Fallout? You be the judge.

That sounds stupid tbh. Even today with the water tests, lead levels are actually going back up. And do you not know what leads application is with radiation? It would make sense for you to be LESS likely to be a ghoul if you have more lead in your system. The only thing that could be "cool" is if the potential Legionella bacteria, AKA Legionnaires disease transformed into some sort of semi concious thing that infected something and then took over the hosts body, and made them go to areas with lots of water. So they would be something like those things from the last of us, so theres even variation

What you missed: - Motor City, not Motor Town - Detroit's Highways are sunk into the ground, a unique design you don't see in many areas of the US. - The Diego Rivera Murals are located in a massive art museum which could be used as a citidel or a stronghold for this religion. - Greektown, not Greek street - Zug Island could play a part for a rader stronghold or some sort of legendary creature due to it's history of being a very polluted site. - You mention Cedar Point, but their was a much closer amusement park called "Bobilo Island" adjacent to Annesburg Ontario. This was actually on an island in the Detroit River just a bit north of Lake Erie called Bois Blanc Island. - University of Michigan is just University of Michigan, Ann Arbor is just the city it's located in. - Mackinac Island and the nearby Mackinac Bridge would be a great DLC spot. The bridge Specifically would make an excellent location to visit and an excellent stronghold as well as the Grand Hotel in the Island. - Battle Creek was home to a sanatarium which was founded by the founder of Kellogg's cereal. This place was active till the 1940's and while it never had any major scandals (as far as I'm aware) you could twist this location's history.

Michigan native, with some additions: For unique demographics/cultures, Dearborn (just west of Detroit) has a huge Arabic population. Some of that could play to the unfortunate stereotype, with others just trying for a "normal" life. Dearborn is also Ford's global HQ, and has a couple points of interest in the Henry Ford museum and Fair Lane, the Fords' home turned museum. Depending on the size of the map, you could include Toledo to the south. I could very easily imagine people in Fallout times misinterpreting some old documents or monuments, and carrying on the Michigan/Ohio border war from the 1830's. In modern Detroit, those sports arenas are in VERY close proximity. Literal neighbors, in some cases. Though that is a somewhat recent development. Going with the 50s/60s aesthetic might put them in different places, including out in the suburbs. Considering the amount of wartime production that came out of Detroit, I imagine it would have remained a large and important city in the Fallout timeline. I could easily see military remnant factions present. One addition to the Windsor/Detroit interaction: There is another way to cross the river. In winter, it can freeze over. In the prohibition era, this was a MAJOR bootlegging thoroughfare. Perhaps they could add seasons to the game, making it easier to access the Canadian part of the map at times.

A note about potential nearby locations that would have been affected by the war/post war: Dearborn. It's the current headquarters of the Ford Motor Company. It houses major manufacturing, engineering, testing, and housing for the automotive industry, so it would possibly be a target of nuclear strikes. It has two local landmarks, the Henry Ford Museum, and Greenfield Village. The Henry Ford museum is a massive sprawling monument to the early 1900's and the expansion of industrialization and assembly line technology. Greenfield Village is a period park of the early 1900's, and could potentially be populated by neo-amish individuals using the park as a blueprint to build their way of life on. Another odd note about Dearborn, it has the highest Arab population density outside of the Middle East. Not sure how that could affect a post-war fallout world, but it could certainly add a little spice.

I think Detroit presents a lot of opportunities for series firsts. You mentioned cars, which would be cool. You also mentioned snow, which I would absolutely love. I could see there being a DLC location deep into the UP that has been plunged into a never ending winter (insert nuclear winter jokes here) and it requires you to either upgrade your existing armor, or get new locally sourced armor that protects you from the cold and snow blindness ect. With how crazy the weather is in Michigan though, they could just make snow one of the weather events. The temperature sweeps this time of year can result in snowfall overnight followed by short sleeve temps in the afternoon lol. Having actual changing seasons in a main game would be kinda cool to see as well though. Another good oportunity I think Detroit provides is a more realistic scale. Any game that takes place in massive spraling cities is always drastically and noticeably downscailed. But Detroit isn't that big. You said it yourself, there's only a few sky scrapers. So depending when this game came out and the hardware it has to work with, they could probably get the scale of the city pretty accurate. Lastly, you mentioned Selfridge briefly, but honestly I think that would be a bigger target than the manufacturing facilities. I'd imagine in game it would be a massive strategic bomber air base. I feel like if there was going to be a part of the map that is a glowing sea style crater, it would probably be Selfridge, which would work since it's not exactly close to Detroit. There is still the DTW Airport if you wanted to include that kind of landmark too though. Oh, and having a location where the 2 waring factions are based around Kelloggs and Post would be absolutely hilarious. It could be either full on cults who misunderstood what the companies were pre-war, or less silly that could still be manufacturing dry goods and are fighting the be the dominant supplier to the area.

A potential location of interest in a Cleveland DLC would be the Cargill Salt Mine. Massive mine about 1700 ft. beneath Lake Erie just off of downtown Cleveland. Could make for a perilous dungeon crawl through the rooms of the mine and flooded corridors. Perhaps fluff it as one of Dunwich Borers many enterprises, and lean heavily into the Lovecraftian influences. Salt itself also reacts strongly to radiation and Lake Erie is well known for its shipwrecks, ghosts, and ufo sightings, all things Fallout enjoys playing with.

Okay, you've convinced me. The Joe Louis Arena, Ford Field, and Comerica Park would be awesome settings in a Fallout game. Thing is, you'd have to get into the suburbs for most of the good stuff. You'd need a DLC in Windsor, for instance. The boss would have to be based out of Dearborn, or possibly Auburn Hills or Pontiac for the sake of the Palace and the Silverdome. There is no way that the Brotherhood of Steel would allow the River Rouge plant to stand alone, for instance.
@SarumanOrthanc
@SarumanOrthanc Жыл бұрын
It'd be better with Tiger Stadium. It was just as old as Fenway Park. Suburbs appear in the maps of other games. You couldn't do a Detroit setting right if you didn't include the Henry Ford Museum, University of Michigan, or Meadow Brook Hall (the 9th largest mansion in the U.S.) The distance from Ann Arbor to Detroit is only 36 miles. Cottonwood Cove is 54 miles from Las Vegas, so the map has certainly been spread out like that before.

As a born Yooper(someone from the Upper Peninsula) I do enjoy the call out. There are a couple of things that I had thought of. The Mackinaw straight as a DLC location. Once again calling heavy on the water as a means of transportation. Mackinaw Island with all the famous locations there(the Fort and the Grand Hotel to name a few) You also have the Mackinaw Bridge there as well having been completed in 57, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Another thing to consider in there is the "animosity" between Yoopers and Trolls(those Michiganders who live below the bridge). While today this is more akin to Far Harbors view of Mainlanders, it could be much more hostile in the future. There have been on several occasions a movement, including legislation, for the U.P. to become a separate state edit: Also being up north would make the possibility of snow littered map, Similar to parts of Skyrim

You should totally do this for a Toronto (or Ronto) stand-alone fallout game. Has a lot of big landmarks like the CN tower, Rogars Center, Saint Lawrence markets, Casa Loma and more. As a big bonus we got the Toronto islands which has an small airport so could lend to some interesting factions. Also not forgetting Pearson International. Could lead to some interesting pre war lore as Ronto would have been one of the first places the U.S. would invade during the annexation due to being the largest city in Canada so could have similar plot points to Windsor. In terms of DLC could lend to similar idea like Niagara Falls, but could also explore Ottawa and maybe even a DLC where you travel up the St Lawrence river stoping in places like Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City with Quebec City having a great setpiece with the massive Fairmont Le Château Frontenac acting as a great operating base for a faction due to its history of being very defendable. I’m actually working on my own Fallout setting to take place in my home state of Colorado, which I’ll be making into a series of videos as my own theoretical Fallout game. Colorado has a ludicrous amount of military bases, forts, and other government facilities, including Cheyenne Mountain (which houses NORAD), the Air Force Academy, and so much more. The potential for military secrets, special weapons, and more is off the charts. Nikola Tesla used to live in Colorado Springs, which still houses the Tesla museum. The potential of a secret Tesla lab for some crazy SCIENCE!!! shenanigans is very high. Denver canonically was the research capital of the country regarding the New Plague and developed the early designs of what would eventually become FEV before that research was moved to WestTek and Mariposa in California. Denver and Boulder were given huge facilities by the government in the last decade before the Great War. Denver also invented cyberdogs, and has a lot of technology fabrication in universe! Portions of Colorado were under Legion rule prior to the second Battle of Hoover Dam. We could see how the Legion has fractured since the loss of Caesar and Legate Lanius to keep them in line. In fact one of their tribes, the Hangdogs, originally hailed from Denver! There’s a lot more but I don’t want to tip my hand. I think there’s a LOT of potential for Colorado and I’d enjoy seeing RadKing’s own research and take on the area for game viability.

Something that just dawned on me is hockey is SUPER popular in Michigan, which could also lead to implementing hockey sticks as a weapon type and hockey pads as a basis for armor. Vernor's (arguably the first pop) was also invented here, as was the first breakfast cereal via Kellogg's corn flakes, so analogues to those could be implemented there in an interesting way (even though neither was invented in Detroit specifically). Detroit is also the birthplace of Little Caesar's Pizza, which could likewise be used in a ton of interesting ways. A DLC could also have you travel to the Upper Peninsula (or U.P. as we always refer to it here), maybe Marquette as it's the biggest city up there. I mainly think that would be interesting for a few reasons; one: there's notably larger wildlife up there, such as moose, black bears, pikes, salmon, even mountain lions--all of which could make for interesting mutated animals; two: lake superior is so cold that the bodies of people who've died there never surface, which is BEGGING for a Fallout twist--come on, cold, sunken mutants or some sort of lovecraftian prescience there would be amazing; three: it would be the first location in a Fallout game that would lend itself well to an implementation of Sasquatch, who's typically associated with the Pacific Northwest but has a strong cultural prescience in Michigan as well--especially farther north. And since Fallout loves referencing horror movie franchises, Evil Dead is set in Michigan, which is a reference that basically writes itself.

I liked that you included the Fermi plant in Monroe. Some other interesting tidbits in the area that could be interesting locations are the General Custer statue (it was his hometown) and the River Raisin War of 1812 Battlefield. So, there's potential for some historical reenactor types or a Custer's Last Stand situation for some minor group around the actual Custer statue. There's also the old Nike Missile Base just outside of Monroe. There's also the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village just outside of Detroit which is like a recreation of a late 19th century town. The island of Grosse Ille has a reputation as a rich person's place to live, so there's some interesting storylines that could be extrapolated from that. The John K King Rare and Used Book Store could be a quest location. I have to say though that instead of Cleveland, Toledo could be a good alternative for an area to expand into or for DLC.

Ooh! Even just including all the islands and making sailing a major part of the game would be awesome! It would be a completely different kind of gameplay from what we're used to in Fallout in terms of travel. And there could be typhoons or tsunamis that we have to deal with. And there's the question of how much contact they have with other islands and even mainland US. What about tensions between whites and Hawaiians? Would Hawaiians try to regain control of the islands now that the whites no longer have the power of the mainland? Well, that would delve into racial tensions and Fallout likes to avoid that for the most part. Maybe there could be a would-be Hawaiian monarch trying to unify the islands and the local rulers resisting bowing to anyone? It would be interesting if they could also put in a part where when you reach a certain point in the story, one of the volcanoes erupts and wipes out some villages or a city. The new volcano that's building a new island - is that supposed to break the surface in the next 200 years? Cuz a brand new island to explore with an active volcano still erupting new material would be interesting as well. And ofc the addition of new sea creatures in the ocean to threaten boats would be awesome. We could have to fish or hunt large sea animals for quests or even for food in a survival mode.

@@mikezobl9602 Aside from the demonic aspect you mentioned this cryptid sounds a lot like Mothman in behavior. Perhaps and this is quite a stretch even for Fallout, this creature could be some kind of attempt at combining aspects of the Mothman and Deathclaw as some form of advancement in the pre-war Deathclaw development program.

Man I'd eat iguana bits to see Saint Louis, Missouri in a Fallout game. We've got so many iconic locations from the Gateway Arch, to the Cathedral Basilica, Busch Stadium, the Science Center, the City Museum, Forest Park and all its attractions, Union Station with its massive aquarium, and many more. Not to mention the legacy of classic rock and blues we've got here, having been home to people like Chuck Berry, Tina Turner, and others

I'm from Alaska. The sheer size of this place allows for several distinct biomes. You could have a muskeg area that has some old trapper cabins to loot, maybe do a note based environmental quest about a dog musher who was out in the middle of nowhere on a race when the bombs fell. There are also huge mountains, old military bases/silos dotting the woods also that could easily be vaults. You could also have a in the "Bush" (remote parts of the state that can only be reached by boat or air...sometimes. You could maybe unlock a small bush plane to transport yourself out to the dlc oil field or village.

Rad you already know how I feel about a Detroit fallout, you even mentioned some locations I didn't consider like the historical factories and a dlc breakfast cereal conflict that I thought were perfect. I like the format of the video and dig the idea of it becoming a series. Detroit is my number one pick, but I have some runners up locations that could be fun.

As another DLC idea i feel like it would be cool to go to Chicago, we know it has connections to the midwest brotherhood and has at least one enclave base, while it's not in super close proximity it's not super far either, also as you mention if there's going to be any land vehicles in fallout, Detroit would be a great area to implement it. I could see a scenario where you navigate the ruined roads on some mad max-esque vehicle to get to Chicago, it would be an excellent opportunity to learn more about other enclave sects, the midwestern brotherhood of steel outside fallout tactics and generally know more about the midwest.

Detroit being a nasty road warrior setting with a fallout coat of paint could be really interesting. I really want to see something in the South East, I think a game set along the mississippi river and focusing on a partially sunken New Orleans would be awesome!

There was a proposed Fallout project several years ago for the Pacific Northwest, with locations such as Mount Saint Helens and the city of Seattle. I would love to see Portland or Seattle get some Fallout love. Seattle has iconic landmarks (such as the Space Needle), and a famous "underground city", and it is relatively near the border for the Canadian points in your Detroit video. Plus a waterway that would be perfect for your Viking-style pirate raiders. And a vault built into the Mount Saint Helens volcano could be a good DLC idea. Imagine a Vault-Tec experiment of life inside a (semi)active volcano.

Imo, a dense urban environment has still yet to be done properly in Fallout. Detroit, New Orleans, and Texas sound great in concept, but my issue is that Bethesda nor Obsidian have yet to get a good version of a city. 4 was super dense, but barely felt like a city, and more like a dungeon with a sky box. 3 was a joke, with just a bunch of loading screens leading to small cells. And finally FNV had the Strip, and nothing else. Outer Vegas barely felt like anybody actually ever lived there, at any point. I think the best environment for the next Fallout would be New Orleans. It has a lot of culture and is a bit more homey than the monstrous skyscrapers of 4, probably a but less destroyed than 3 and hopefully denser and more detailed than FNV.

In my own fanfiction I always imagined detroit like the more "civilised" brother of the Pitt. In my mind its called Troi (and obv the lads living there are Troians why not) and the city its a cross between New Vegas In the concept art wich all those gigantic concrete walls, mega city 01 and warhammer hive cities, or necromunda direclty and also the industrial london of the 1800. And the idea there to myself its the fact that the old motor and industry families some had their own súper bunkers and after the war they emerge creating a more or less peaceful city state post war fortified settlement (we have to remember that hoover dam had anti air and anti torpedo netting) so maybe the city was fortified the same way before the war. And the idea is that the industries reproduce pre war tech from simple electic bulbs to sherman tanks to nuclear powered battleships (maybe in really less ammount) and it would be a cool mechanic to have something like expeditions to a procedural generated wasteland with only sand and a few buildings here and there and find an almost intact pre war car or tank (maybe even something soviet or chinese) or going to a war museum and give that thech to one of the families in Troi to do reverse engeniering and reproduce that. Would be cool something like Oh is that a soviet IS 3 tank? You: yep Oh ok come back in one week and we will began to reproduce this beauty and you can buy it with a discount of course. And that would be cool for small scale in your settlements but my idea was that The Pitt produce mad max type of tech for raiders or solos while Troi produce military or civilian hardware trough contracts..... and contracts with troi are sacred and its not a good idea to piss them. And would be a cool thing to see on a computer terminal that 400 super shermans are gonna be shipped to shady sands trough armored train (would be nice to see all of this functional and also railroad its basically the history of America). And in resume all of this shit I made on my head its because im tired of always in fallout being on a nuked city then is the scrap made settlement and then there are the baddies, this for example in new vegas doesn't happen and that was my idea. A walled city with the asthetic of the gothic dieselpunk of the classic games where people can have a more or less normal life but everything its covered in smoke and rain, in wich detective roleplaying could happen and also you could discover cool things on the society of the post war.... like for example: Ok those 400 shermans are going to the shady sands so that is ncr, those re engeniered IS 3 to someone called BoS on this contract, 1000 microwaves for the children of atom..... and for some reason this encprited data says that 5 k of X01 helmets and those 2k frames of vb 02 vertibirds for a contractor only called Ms E on Colorado to a place called Cheyenne...... And in resume I always wanted to drive things in fallout and instead of transforming a beautiful car on scrapp metal to carry it to a place that repairs to me or a place in wich will be reproduced and see it working trought the wasteland. Sorry for the ultra long essay as always !

As a native Michigander, I would love this If Ann Arbor is included, I'd imagine my homeland of Monroe would be included with Fermi II, as that's where it is. Maybee too, perhaps. Just because of the name it would be amazing. I would love a stable republic there, even one with, as it makes total sense. The whole county of Monroe is so ignored by Toledo to the south and Detroit to the north, it wouldn't be nuked. We could possibly see proper post-war flora, not just spore creatures and dead trees that just so happen to have leaves. Monroe country, or perhaps the Republic of Monroe, would be such a bountiful society. It would be cool to see pre-war naval ships used by them to fight off pirates and vikings. Additionally, in Mothership Zeta the giant lazer hit nearby Detroit in Canada. This would be the perfect reference.

Detroit would be an interesting location. If factories were still intact on any level, I could see them being modified by groups like the BoS, Enclave, and maybe some raider gangs, to make cars and "tanks" like the old mafia cars back in the day. A set of groups who are trying to get boats or planes back online. Trying to reclaim various factories or the like. The islands could be used as defensive locations for mutants or make them valuable for everyone due to resources that could be there. The great lakes having a massive waterworld feel to it would be AMAZING, and we could see pre war water vehicles that were being made to fight against the "Ghost Fleet". With a legendary beast that is a prewar robot set to combat mode, but badly malfunctioning so it doesn't appear too often.
