This was a spur of the moment dive at Devils Bridge on Easter Monday 2014 after Graham & Helen had visited the day before & reported excellent viz & no real current. Saw a few fish but no Salmon

Hello, I am no stranger to Devils bridge as I proudly attended boarding school many years ago not too far away in beautiful Grange over Sands Witherslack. During my proud attendance at that school, we used to often head here to Devils bridge and some boys were extremely brave by jumping in the cold water from a height but I never ventured into that challenge. Indeed trips here and everywhere else was fantastic and I always stated, Witherslack were the best school I ever attended and indeed the right school. There was another school affiliated here in Kirby Lonsdale called Cedar house. It’s ironic, as I paid a recent visit here with another ex-boy who attended Cedar house and Witherslack Hall. I’d certainly love to try some underwater swimming like this here in future.

@@cleyland1996 hello. I’m pleased to hear you liked it there. I proudly attended Witherslack Hall School And Near By from 1979 till 1983, so a good three and a bit years or so, and yes, I really liked it there. I honestly wish it had turned into a further education College and gone back under the right circumstances, including, having stayed for a job, and I’m not the only one who feels the same.

@@bestrickie2 I know of a good few people who feel the same way too mate, myself included. When I left there I returned to a town and now it’s all in the past…. Hence the reason I’m now searching for diving videos at devils, I’ve never even been diving but I’ve got a new found love/desire to be in and around water. All I want to do is go deep down and also out to see diving there too.

@@cleyland1996 a school mate and I we went to Devil’s Bridge last year and we also had a good visit to the grounds of Witherslack Hall where we took photos of the place. Witherslack Hall is now called Oversands school. Even a former member of staff who I met up with a couple of years ago, stated it would have been so good if some of us boys could have gone back for a job years ago and I certainly would have done. At Witherslack Hall School, there was a farm adjacent to the school and again, had the school transformed into a college and taken over the farm, again, I’d love to have gone back trained and stayed there years ago.

I do a lot of fishing under that bridge. Caught a big trout there. Great to see under the water. A very mysterious place there at night

Wow....GREAT video both content AND quality wise. I can't believe how clear it is ( what cam were you using please ) ? ! I came across it " accidentally " looking for possible motorcycle rides ! lol. Glad I did though, you have just reminded me that there's a whole new world to explore that I ( and most of us ) take for granted....I may have to add " learn to dive " to the bucket list ! ; )

Donna Phillips Thanks for the compliment - The camera was a Lumix TZ 20 in a Panasonic housing. Good for stills, full Hd & reasonably wide angle. Total cost new £500 but 3 years old so much cheaper now on Ebay. If you are looking for a camera that does motor cycle journeys I would recommend a Sony AS30 action camera. It costs £190 is full HD & you can get loads of accessories at a reasonable price. The goPro is also brilliant.

Where do you buy/ rent the kit for diving? I’ve always wanted to get into it and I don’t live too far away from devils bridge. How much could I be expecting to pay for the kit and do you have to have a license?
@iciclediver
@iciclediver 6 жыл бұрын
Their are a variety of dive shops in the big cities and on line but I would strongly recommend that you join a local dive club & be trained up by them before investing in dive kit which will cost approx £1500. Diving is a dangerous sport which requires training to reduce the chance of death. Their is a BSAC club in Kendal called Kendal & south lakes

I noticed you mention there was a boulder where you'd expect to jump off the bridge. Where is that exactly and how big is it? I see most people tend to jump of in the very centre of the river. I really fancy a go.
@iciclediver
@iciclediver 7 жыл бұрын
The boulder was a little way downstream. If you jumped off & fall downwards you would be alright but if you jump outwards it could be a problem. The bed of the river changes after each flood so it may no longer be there. My advice is don't be the first to jump & then jump into the same location. See my other video for where to jump from.

Hi, do you park at the top next to the picnic ground and walk down the steep side or is there a parking closer to the water?
@iciclediver
@iciclediver 6 жыл бұрын
We tend to park on the west side of the river next to toilets, kit up & pass through the kissing gate to enter above the bridge but below the rapids. East side parking is reserved for bikes at the weekend but the beach on that side is the easiest entry if you can fit through the gap in the stone wall. The rocks at the edge of the river are often very slippery in full kit

Thanks that's great. I see the kissing gate now on satellite. I was going the other side with the steep climb down. Much appreciated.

Bloke with the twinset.....you know if you put some air in your wing, you won't need to knuckle drag yourself along the bottom......and kick all the sh!t up! ;)
@iciclediver
@iciclediver 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry Dale you are wrong, At Devils bridge you have to be heavy and drag yourself upstream because you cannot swim against the current where the river narrows. It has a Pebble bottom so nothing to kick up

Nice video! Now we know what it looks like from your perspective :-) If you are making one of your videos when we are making one of ours, it could end up awkward ;-) (get plenty of views though)
