Devlin "Duck" Hodges (born April 12, 1996) is an American football quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Samford, after playing at Mortimer Jordan High School. He was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2019.
2019 Season
Hodges signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2019. He was waived on August 31, 2019. The Steelers re-signed Hodges to their practice squad on September 10, 2019. He was promoted to the active roster on September 16, 2019 following an injury to starter Ben Roethlisberger.
On October 6, 2019, he made his professional debut with the Steelers in a game against the Baltimore Ravens following an injury to Mason Rudolph. In his first regular season game, Hodges completed seven of nine passes for 68 yards, and ran the ball twice for 20 yards. He won his first NFL start in the October 13, 2019 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. In the game, Hodges threw for 132 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. On November 24, 2019, Hodges replaced Rudolph midway through the third quarter and threw for 118 yards which included a 79-yard touchdown pass en route to a 16-10 comeback victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. On November 26, Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin named Hodges the starting quarterback for the Steelers' next game against the Cleveland Browns. In the game, Hodges threw for 212 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the 20-13 win. After another win over the Arizona Cardinals, Hodges struggled against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football on December 15, 2019, throwing for 202 yards, 1 touchdown, and a career-high 4 interceptions as the Steelers lost 10-17.
In Week 16 against the New York Jets, Hodges was benched early in the second quarter for Rudolph after throwing two interceptions. He was put back into the game in the fourth quarter after Rudolph suffered a shoulder injury. The Steelers lost 10-16. In total, Hodges threw for 84 yards and two interceptions during the loss. Hodges appeared in eight games as a rookie and totaled 1,063 passing yards, five touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Hodges will always be a legend in my eyes. When our team was down, he stepped up and gave every steeler fan hope for while. Not bad for a guy that wasnt even drafted. Hope he gets some game time in buffalo. The Duck deserves it.

Man, I forgot about how pretty a pass he throws. His quick release throwing mechanics are better than quite a few QB’s in the league. You can forget about INT’s on quick pass plays. He throws from his ear, which gives DB’s not much reaction time. Much appreciate the little things about this kid. With the right QB coach, he could have a decent NFL career. I wish him well in L.A.

From someone whose watched wolford his entire career no he isbt better. Career 58% completion % average arm. Turnover machine . Goff isnt the kong tern answer either I'd rather us go after Stafford or Watson or develop bryce perkins. 6'3 fast as hell cannon for an arm had a great career at Virginia and his numbers mirrored lamar Jackson's

Watson would be the best option, but clearly Watson seems to only want to go to either NY or Miami so unless both of them want to roll with rookie QBs (and NY would be good to keep Darnold and maybe pick up Trey Lance if they think Darnold's not the answer), then Watson will go there. Stafford is not the answer. Detroit wants a LOT for him and the Rams aren't gonna do that. Hodges is a better version of Wolford, but not remotely better than Goff. I'll really enjoy the competition, tho. If anything, it looks like Goff got comfortable, but once McVay essentially benched him for Wolford, it seems Goff got some of his swag back and played VERY well the last two games, especially with the broken thumb. Biggest takeaway? No turnovers in the last two games. If the Rams can bolster the interior OL with either someone like Creed Humphries in the draft or by letting both Floyd and JJ3 go and signing Corey Linsley from the Packers, Goff will be able to step up in the pocket, something he's not been able to do the last two years, since both Saffold and Sullivan left. Bottom line is that Goff is a pocket passer and with a pocket, Goff can be pretty close to elite, definitely a top 10 QB (not top 5 tho). As for Hodges, I love having a better backup since in this league... just about anything can happen and it sucks having a season lost due to one player getting injured...

Being a prior FCS football player myself I know how hard we had to work to get potential looks in the league. Hodges is a hard worker and good fit for McVays offense. Goff needs some competition to light a fire under his ass. Great pick-up and hopefully it has the desired effect on Goff to start performing at the level he can again.

Mannnnn, I really wanted this guy to be next up. Wonder what got into his head that he lost the fire so quickly! We were there in the endzone for that Duck to Washington TD in Cincinnati. Mason was in and was trash. No joke, we started chanting DUCK DUCK DUCK ....so many other Steelers fans joined in. When they put him in, the place went nuts, then first play - BAM - that beautiful TD pass.

They're just showing you his best plays. Even in some of these, you can see how he's under throwing a lot of these passes. What he accomplished as an undrafted rookie is really great, but don't kid yourself in to thinking he's the next Big Ben.

@@colehines9079 just untrue, Mason won 4 of the 7 games he started. The Duck was .500 in the games he started. Peoples hate for him is soley for the Browns game and because Pittsburgh fans (myself included) are fucking spoiled to hell with having Ben as their qb for nearly 20 years.

@@anonymousanonymity2815 - I think Duck could've developed a bit more, maybe under a different system. He's got a quick release, pretty good power. I think he could be a legit back-up somewhere, or even third string. He has some pretty decent fundamentals there that could use a some honing of his accuracy and decision making. He's pretty decent at his read progression, which Rudolph in the one game he started showed improvement in. You're right though, we've been spoiled by having Ben. People forget that between Terry and Ben we had a whole lot of average.

Duck played the Bungles, a shit Chargers team, a shit Browns defense, and a bad Cardinals team. Rudolph actually hung in there against the NFC champs, the Colts, the Rams who had a decent defense, and nearly completed a comeback against the Seahawks. Your hate for Rudolph is because either you only remember the Browns game, you're spoiled by Ben (which we all are), or you're just willfully ignorant. Rudolph wasn't great last year but by no means was he worse than Duck.

Funny how Hodges stands in the pocket…. Kind of like Rudolph. Letting plays develop instead of cowardly spinning/freaking out like bust “one read Kenny “. He could still be a better quarterback in this league than trash Pickett or Trubisky
