Sage Antone. Then you do not know humility. Your saying your good enough to approach the creator knowing how much of finlthy sinner you are (us all). Remember that Christ obeyed Mary for 30 years. He only preaches for about 3 yers to the masses. He Gave God the father more glory by obeying the Mary. If you do not know Mary, you unfortunately do not know her son either. Remember the Roman centurion said “ I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof “. John the Baptist said, I am not worthy to untie his sandals. But I guess you believe that your are worthy without stain. Get to know what humility is.

He is advocating Marian devotion without even understanding the root cause of this Marian devotion in Catholicism. Almost in half of his video he is in sheer blasphemy, saying Jesus was not purely human and therefore he cannot understand fully us humans. I doubt if whether is is already a RC now. Yes he’s explaining it in caricatures. These are typical ignorant objections. Mary, (and the saints), pray for us, like how you might pray for a friend. She’s not mediating for us. There is only one mediator and that is Jesus. But we have many intercessors. Mary has a place in our lives because Jesus gave her to us as our mother at the foot of the cross. She is the queen mother, not because Jesus can’t be approached but because again, she is in the best place for intercession. She is NOT equal with Jesus in any way.

I'm not Catholic but let me speak as one to help have understanding: Though some of these mistaken views (sort of characachures) are common in the Catholic church (seeing it is massive and diverse and often bogged down with cultural apathy), this does not mean that a healthy Catholic who studies his church's theology would see it that way. Mary was exalted by the grace of God just as all the saints will be, and she was given a special place in the Kingdom since in the ancient Hebrew culture the king's mother would be the queen. The idea of going to Mary is not because Jesus won't listen to you otherwise, it is because we humbly acknowledge God and what He has chosen to do through his servant, Mary. Really, in allowing her to pray for you you are humbling yourself before Christ, recognizing that we are no greater then those saints which have arrived and are perfected in His presence and who are eager to pray for those on earth. Once again I am not Catholic, but I have been able to understand their view better.

Straw man argument. I understand this is only 3 minutes of video but he uses a story from the Middle Ages and some unknown theologian giving inaccurate pictures of what the church teaches About Mary. If he wanted to be more effective he might go after Catholic Bible verses that use to support their theology. That's where our true support comes from, and that's what a non-catholic needs to argue against to convince us Catholics we are wrong.

@@garyh2481 Hi @Gary H. I must admit I am not that familiar with Catholic doctrine and theology. But just looking at the verses you quoted: Rev 12:1 - the woman clothed with the sun, Rev 12:5 the woman bore a male child who would rule the nations, Rev 12:17 the dragon became furious with her and then made war on her offspring - yes Gary, 1 possible interpretation of this is that this woman is Mary who is Jesus' mother. But there are several problems with this interpretation. 1. Rev 12:6 "and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days." Traditionally, Mary did not flee into any wilderness. Scripture in Acts last mentions Mary as having joined the disciples in prayer in the upper room when the Holy Spirit came upon them in power. She likely stayed with the other believers in Jerusalem after Jesus' death and resurrection. Basically serving, living, was persecuted, and died as part of the early Jerusalem church. Another Catholic, tradition suggests Mary may have stayed in the city of Ephesus until her death with John. the disciple whom Jesus entrusted his mother to. 2. Rev 12:13 "And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child." Question: When was the dragon cast down to earth? Was it during the lifetime of Jesus on earth? Because other parts of Scripture Isaiah 14:12-15, Ezekiel 28:12-17, and many others, suggest that Satan the great dragon was cast out of heaven to earth long before Christ's birth on earth. So Mary had not yet even been born when the dragon was cast onto the earth. How then can she be the dragon's target? 3. Lastly, the interpretation that Mary is the Queen of Heaven, having special access or privileges with Jesus, and hence we may go to her for intercession with God on our behalf, this interpretation is at best supported by indirect Scriptural evidence. What I mean by indirect evidence is that this is not explicit and is actually open to different interpretation. Your quotation from 1 Kings 2 about Bathsheba is an example of this kind of indirect evidence. But the idea that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man, that there is only 1 way to God and eternal life and that is through Jesus, this idea is supported by direct evidence throughout Scripture. In fact this is indeed the consistent message throughout Scripture. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 "For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time." Acts 4:11-12 "This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."

She is not merely a mother as reported in this video. She is mother to Jesus. A better example of Catholic belief is the wedding at Cana. One of the Ten Commandments is to honor your mother and father. Our 4th and likely your 5th (the idol restriction is your 2nd and is in our 1st). Jesus honored his mother by doing what she requested at this wedding. Look up these paraphrases of what is in Scripture. This is a better summary of Catholic belief. You know Sacred Scripture, so should be able to find these: "God is the god of the living, not the dead, for to Him all are alive." The eternal soul. "In heaven, we will be like angels." - We see in Sacred Scripture angels singing and praying in heaven. "Ask one another to pray for us." - If we are alive in heaven, how is it we cannot ask someone as close to God as it gets (in heaven) to pray for us? "And the saints brought the bowl of prayers to Jesus." If we pray only directly to Jesus, why are saints bringing prayers to Jesus? "She has a crown with twelve stars" What type of woman has a crown? She had a child that will rule the world. "She had a child, who was snatched up to God and his throne and fled to the wilderness to be taken care of for 1,260 days". The Bible never said Mary died. "Peter saw Moses and Elijah" - They didn't seem so dead to Peter We Catholics do find our beliefs in the Bible as do you. Mark 9:38-39. Take all of these together and you get praying to the saints. We cannot have Jesus as the king without having his mother as the queen. The Old Testament does show that the queen is the king's mother. We see these kings honoring their mothers. Jesus came to us as a Jew. Not a 21th century American or European or anyone else. He would obey the Commandments. The basic theory is this: People in heaven are closest to God. They are closer to God than we are. So we ask these people, who the Bible says are alive, to pray for us because we are told to ask each other to pray for us. We do the same for Mary in the hopes she will take our petitions to her son Jesus, who would honor his mother like He did at Cana and take them to the Father. She does not take these petitions to the Father. Yes, the Bible says we pray to Jesus, who takes these prayers to the Father. These prayers are not violating this restriction. These prayers go to Jesus, who goes to the Father the same as me asking you to pray for me to Jesus, who takes them to the Father. There is no difference, unless you wish to go against Scripture and say, "God is the god of the dead, for to Him everyone on earth that is dead is dead in heaven."

I myself don't understand entire concept of Mary in God's plan, and in our lives but what i like here is that you are trying to be objective and explain, rather than complain 🙂 From what i know as Catholic she is new Eve, just like Jesus was new Adam Like Abraham's name was changed, and Peters name later, she had similar experience of having new role, under the cross Jesus gaved her his disciple for a son, and to his disciple her as a mother.. There is also the greek word that Angel used to say hy to her, it is "Carie Ceharetomene" what means - full of grace, full to the top, nothing is in you but the grace.. Also Elizabeth was filled with Holy Spirit on the sound of her voice, and blessed her as the mother of our Lord ... (In my personal opinion) That fullnes of grace is also something apostoles were wishing to us in the beginning or at the end of their letters, fullnes of grace and peace from Jesus Christ our lord and savior So doctrine was developed very early about her greatness Jahve became a man in her body, all glory to Him If we take Angels words addressed to her seriously, "the lord is with the" we can see she was very dear to God, He didn't see her as a threat to Him but as a sheep opened to do His will, and to be rewarded in Heaven

I appreciate his tender approach to this concept from a Protestant perspective, however, Catholic Mariology is far more nuanced than this. We don’t deem Christ unapproachable, if we truly did we wouldn’t believe His presence in the Eucharist that’s available to all mankind. Mary, as Queen of Heaven, is a triumphant sign of Christ’s victory.

but why do you feel the need to pray to her instead of praying to Jesus? why do you need another mediator, when there is only one mediator between man and God, Jesus Christ, (1 Timothy 2:5) which is literally the reason he descended on earth and died for you, so that he could reconcile you with God, so that you could be saved? I used to be a pretty fervent catholic, I prayed the rosary a lot, went to mass often, considered protestants heretics, and yet when I thought about these things, I still could not justify such a practice, not in light of the Gospel and the New Testament, not in light of the whole Old Testament, not in light of any basic monotheistic theology... There's just no reason and no justification for such a thing. And might I add, there is no spiritual benefit to such a practice, either, only detriment. You're free to propose to me a reason why I'm wrong.

@@RJ-ku2mh wrong, your history is flawed, let’s look at just marrian doctrines. Marrian dogmas If someone were to pick up the Bible and say, dose it teach that Jesus’s mother was the sinless queen of heaven. Who was bodily assumed into heaven, conceived without original sin and never had other children. Would they walk away with that thought or would they look at you like you have lost it. This demonstrates the central issue, it is sola scriptura. No one would simply embrace Roman Catholic dogmas on mary. For the simple reason no meaningful form of exegesis would lead you too those conclusions. Look what Jesus taught for example. This comes from the sagecies asking Jesus whose wife should this woman be ext.. and Jesus says Mathew 22:31 But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God: He constantly takes them back to scripture. This was wrote 1400 years before this happened and he’s saying well look at scripture. This happens over and over with Christ. Why? Because it is scripture that is final authority not tradition. Tradition is what he was condemning the sagecies and the pharacies over. Because they weren’t going off of scripture alone. They let tradition that they added in over hundreds of years become more important than scripture, the same exact thing the Roman Catholic Church has done. 2 Peter 1: 19,20 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to PAY ATTENTION as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of ONES OWN interpretation, 1 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God (man of God, anyone in Christ) may be adequate, equipped for every good work. And sense scripture is God breathed for teaching, reproof, correction ext.. what dose that mean? That which is not God breathed cannot be as profitable as that which is God breathed, for teaching, reproof, correction ext….. nothing els the church possess is God breathed, only the scripture. The CHURCH is not GOD BReATHED and sense the church has the resource (God breathed scripture) the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. There cannot be a good work defined for the man of God that the God breathed scriptures dose not equip him to perform. And certainly teaching that Mary is bodily assumed into heaven, or Immaculately conceived, or that Mary is a perpetual virgin, these are things your Roman Catholic teaching will tell you are good deeds, but scripture dose not even begin to hint such beliefs. If a belief is based in something that is not God breathed it is not binding upon Christians and is therefore not authentic Christian teaching. Not a single bishop that met at the council of Nicaea in 325 ad believed what modern Roman Catholicism defines as dogmatically true about Mary today. Roman Catholics say you must believe this. If modern Roman Catholic teachings are true, then God allowed many centuries to pass without any one believing the full truth about them? How important can the bodily assumption of Mary be if God allowed 1,900 years to pass before making sure people understood it was a divinely revealed truth? How is it that you could literally have the first five century’s of Christian era pass before anyone even mentioned it and then when they did mention it they mentioned it only as the teaching of heretics? Not as something that was thought by Christians. That requires a extremely low view of the importance of the early church. And then say these dogmas are de fide dogmas (that means must believe or you are considered heretical). The crazy thing is that no one in the first 1500 years of church history believed as dogma what modern Roman Catholicism has defined to be true. That’s the entirety of what Rome claimed as de fide dogma which include the last three doctrines that have been defined by Rome, immaculate conception, papal infallibility, and the bodily assumption of Mary. Yet despite this reality Rome says her teachings are true and ancient and she condemns with the anathema those who would reject her claims. That means this is not a matter of possibility. Rome literally makes eternity rest upon these teachings. Bishop fulgentius of ruspe. (467-532) giving his time frame you will notice he is post Augustinian this quote came from pl 65:458 (patralogia latinea) this is a huge massive collection of the writings of the church fathers in Latin. Bishop fulgentius says “this is the grace whereby it came to pass that God, who came to take away sins, because sin was not in him, was conceived and born a man in the similitude of sinful flesh. The flesh of Mary, forsooth, which had been conceived in iniquities after the manner of men, was indeed sinful flesh, which bore the son of God in similitude of sinful flesh. We must believe that the only begotten God did not derive the defilement of sin from the mortal flesh of the virgin. Truly, therefore, Mary conceived God the word, which she bore in sinful flesh, which God received.” This was a bishop that was well aquatinted with Augustine’s writings. He had no concept of immaculate conception, never breathed a word about the bodily assumption, no evidence of any beliefs in such concepts as “queen of heaven”, or Mary as co-redemptrix, mediatrix of all graces ext….. so question was bishop fulgentis and many more ignorant of the “apostolic traditions” or was the real fact that there was no such “traditions”? “BISHOP FULGENTIS OF RUSPE” look it up and dig on more bishops writings in and around those eras. The modern complex of Marrian dogmas and doctrines shows that Rome’s claims to function off scripture and “tradition” is utterly fallacious. The two most modern Roman teachings, the doctrines of Mary as queen of heaven, mediatrix of all graces, co redemptrix with Christ (doctrine taught by popes for 100+ years), and the dogma of bodily assumption, are simply unknown in scripture or tradition. Then going backwards we find the next dogma immaculate conception, finding its first formulation in a British monk named Edemer at the beginning of the 12th century. But it was apposed in its modern dogmatic form as a innovation by Bernard of clairvaux, Peter Lombard, Alexander of hales, Bonaventure, Albert the great, and Thomas Aquinas. Roman Catholic writers list numerous patristic writers who had no problems seeing the biblical narrative indicating acts of sin on Mary’s part, including Irenaeus, tertullian, orgien, John chrysostom, Cyril of Alexandria, and basil. Emmon carrol has written regarding the period of Augustine, “many more century’s of thought and prayer were required before the church would realize that the immaculate conception was among the gifts of God, provided for his mother.” (“Mary in the documents of magisterium” in mariology vol 1, ed. by juniper b Carroll.) So this is my point no one knew it then, none of the apostles knew it, Mary did not know it, but you have to believe it as dogma now? The perpetual virginity of Mary, the oldest of Marian doctrines. The natural reading of scripture speaks of Jesus’s brothers and sisters, and the family of Joseph Mary and Jesus living in Nazareth. Reading the Bible there is not a hint of the birth of Christ being painless or unnatural (the word “tiktw” in Greek means to give birth) . The prophesy of the birth of the “Son given to us” (Isaiah 9:6) likewise uses natural language of birth. For Jesus to be our sin bearer his humanity had to be real. He has to be the God man, he had to truly enter into flesh (John 1:14). This idea of unnatural birth came from gnostic sources as the ascension of Isaiah, the gospel of James, and the odes of Solomon, dating around the 2 to 3rd century after the scripture was closed. There is a writing from clement of Alexandria which he openly admits taking the idea from the gospel of James, and this is why we stick to sola scriptura. This is where this heretical perpetual virginity comes from. So we have to conclude that the marrian doctrines of Rome are not authentic Christian teaching. No meaningful form of exegesis leads us to believe these doctrines are true. History shows these doctrines developed either from non orthodox sources or developed 100s or thousands of years, after the time of the apostles and closing of scriptures. They have no binding on Christians and must be rejected. This idolatry leads to these popes and bishops being given titles that absolutely blaspheme the holy Trinity. For example the pope is called holy father which is only used of Jesus calling his Father this while praying to him. The Roman Catholic priests are called alter christus which means another Christ. And also the pope is called a vicor of Christ which this means to take the place of Christ, and who was sent to do that? The Holy Spirit. Theses are all titles of the Trinity that Rome bares there self. And there is a odd resemblance of the unholy trinity in revelation. The dragon and the two beast and they mock the Holy Trinity. Idolatry is a disgusting act, and when we follow our man made laws or the supposed church we run into these problems. This is why scripture alone is our final authority.

So we saints also pray to God and to God alone since only He is omniscient and omnipresent to hear prayers. Also a 1st century Jewish woman who was righteous in the Torah would not advocate anyone to pray to her at any time, since it would be idolatrous devotion. My concern arises when our Catholic friends insist that the saints in the heaven are alive (which they are) but then don't address the lack of any examples of anyone in scripture praying for intercession through the dead. The closest thing I can think of is that King Saul wanted to inquire of God for help by speaking to a dead Samuel through witchcraft in which the dead (yet alive) Samuel clearly states that he is being disturbed for no good reason because he has no purpose or power to accomplish anything on anyone's behalf anymore since he is dead, and God will accomplish what He said He would. Scripture seems so clear to me in telling us to not go talking to the dead and that the only one who has died to whom we can/should pray directly to is our Lord Jesus because He is God and is in the full resurrection of glory. Interceding for us is what Christ is doing for us now! Dead saints are not fully in the same state as Christ is nor have they been given this intercessory task. Why do Catholics then keep saying we can pray to dead saints? Where in scripture does it clearly say to do that? Where does it explicitly say that the dead saints have this purpose and ability?

I think he needs to look into Eastern Orthodoxy, too. I think there you find a slightly different approach both to God and to Mary. God, in Orthodoxy, is "the lover of mankind," and His mercy is emphasized, so you might have less of the terror of God/Jesus that you sometimes find in Catholicism and (honestly) in some arms of Protestantism. Mary, while still HIGHLY honored in Eastern Orthodoxy, is honored because she is the mother of the savior. In Eastern icons, she is usually gesturing to Jesus. Mary is not a goddess-like figure in her own right. Her grace and power come from God, who is the source of ALL life, love, and all that is good. Orthodoxy also has no need for Mary's immaculate conception (that she was born without sin, a Catholic doctrine). As Orthodox do not believe that we inherit guilt from Adam (only the propensity or tendency to sin), Mary was not born with the guilt of Adam's sin. Again, this is just to broaden this discussion to include a very real part of the Ancient Church.

As a Catholic, I can refute this assumption. We know Christ is fully man and fully God. We understand that Eucharist is body, blood, soul (human) and divinity (God). If a Catholic says that Christ is unapproachable, they don't know their own faith. We have a deep reverence of His incarnation. He is explaining this in caricatures.

The exaltation of "Mary" in the apostate Roman Catholic Church is a missionary adaptation to the pagan mother/child cult originated in Babylon. The Roman Church, the successor to the Roman Empire, failed to be faithful to the Biblical gospel and sought authority, both spiritual and political over all of Europe, the near east and North Africa. To succeed in this, it would allow pagan converts to retain their beliefs, traditions and rituals, but apply "Christian" names/ identities to those things. Veneration of "Mary" was the syncretistic adoption of the worship of the "Goddess" Semiramis, Queen of Heaven and mother of Tammuz.

This, my well-intentioned friends, is called a Strawman, and it's not an argument at all. Rather, it is a logical falacy. Intentionally, or unintentionally misrepresenting another persons beliefs to show them to be silly and thus bolster one's own position, is a poor way to argue and doesnt lead to truth, it leads only to feeling confident about ones own weak position.

The Scriptures teach that Mary was in need of a Savior, just like the rest of fallen mankind. Notice Mary's Song in Praise of God: "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior..." (Lk. 1:46-47, ESV). If Mary was impeccable ('sinless') then she wouldn't need a "Savior," would she? Scripture teaches that Christ ALONE was impeccable (sinless): 2 Cor. 5:21; Heb. 7:25; 1 Jn. 3:5. Hope that helps. *Soli Deo Gloria*

So on earth it was the fathers will that mary be hes mother and in heaven shes hes mother thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven ... Jesus being king of isreal was the will of the father which is hes will in heaven ... 4 of the kings in bible mother was made queen in fact if you do research outside the bible ul see up to 19 kings made their mother queen ... The fathers will done on earth as it is in heaven . jesus called hes mother women . thy will be done as it is in heaven ... A great sign appeared in heaven a women clothed with the sun with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head ... Queen of isreal . we no when on earth mary interveined at the wedding of canon and thats where jesus done hes first miricule ... Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven ... We see in the book of revelations.that the saints bring the prayers to gods throne and we see he told us to pray for one another on earth thy will be done as it is in heaven wee see when jesus time had come he said behold ur mother to john because he was the only deciple their .. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven ... We see in comandments honor ur father and mother thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven . amen so do u think jesus did not honor hes father will bye honoring hes mother .. It was not us catholics that made mary importent it was the fathers will amen .. Jesus corrected the Pharisees all the time for "teaching for doctrine the commandments of men.". The Ten commandments were the only commandments of God in the OT. The rest of the 613 laws were Man-made..which Jesus told the Pharisees to stop teaching. Jesus Gospel is in Matthew 5 6 7. He Spoke HIS OWN Gospel HIMSELF and the rest of the NT is stories, hearsay and the opinions of Men. I follow Jesus. I do not follow men's opinions in the bible.

Do you see what he did? He could not let scripture speak for itself. He had to add a bunch of human reasoning. This man speaks heresy. He quotes a story told in the Middle Ages to justify why we should pray to Mary. This same story (not scripture) suggests that Jesus is unapproachable and that Jesus would divide his kingdom. Both contradict the Bible. Sir, I ask that examine scripture and walk this back 100%. This is what happens when humans start adding to scripture rather than being obedient to it.

According to Catholic theology, Mary was born without sin. How is it SHE can understand us sinners? Isn't that what the whole gospel centers on, Christ's redemptive work on the cross for sinners. Funny thing, being born without sin would mean one is already righteous; Jesus said He came into the world not to save the righteous, but, rather, the unrighteous. Catholics' view of Mary is so skewed, they can't even see the forest thru the trees. BTW, I'm an ex-Catholic and this dogma is one of the leading reasons why I left. SOLA SCRIPTURA.

David Hall The Blessed Mother was saved from the stain of original sin from the moment of her conception. This is a unique gift from her Divine Son. We know this is true by the word of the Angel Gabriel, "full of Grace" (Luke 1: 26-35). Mary was saved by Jesus Christ in anticipation of His death and resurrection. God is not constrained by time and acts according to His Will. She is the perfect person whom we are to emulate in working out our own salvation. Confess your unbelief to the Priest. Receive Jesus Christ worthily in Holy Eucharist. Come back home.

For any Protestant who is open-minded enough to learn about the Marian dogmas, I recommend Tim Staples's book _Behold Your Mother: A Biblical and Historical Defense of the Marian Doctrines._ Staples is a former Southern Baptist who converted to Roman Catholicism. He's a diehard defender of Catholic theology, including pious Mariology. He obviously wrote the book _for_ Catholics, but if you can stomach the occasional potshots at and mischaracterizations of Protestantism, the book is quite informative as to why Catholics place such a huge emphasis on Mary and also spells out several arguments in favor of the Marian doctrines. Even as a Protestant fundamentalist, I must admit that Staples provides some fairly convincing argumentation in favor of the doctrine of Mary's perpetual virginity and her status and title as Queen of Heaven, but the other doctrines I just can't bring myself to accept. The biblical and historical evidence is too flimsy. Plus, the chasm between Catholicism and Protestantism is just too big.

They both have no biblical support and are man made traditions, very late, man made traditions I might add. How dare you say Mary was sinless ? When Jesus is said to be the ONLY Sinless person in Holy Scripture.. How dare you make up an Ascension to prop her up next to Jesus in heaven ??? This garbage is disgusting and takes away from the great life Mary, lived as a good Jewish woman, who raised the Son of God, as per Gods will. The Catholic Church thinks they are venerating her, but by making all the lies and fables, it actually takes so much away from her. It doesn’t allow the rest of us, to enjoy Mary for who she was. Instead we spend our time showing you Catholics how unbiblical your ideology of Mary is.
