Got a new stringer for around the house that is battery powered because my wife can no longer tolerate fumes from small gas engines. It's a new Dewalt model that vibrates much more then any trimmer I have ever used. This is an Amazon link but I really can't recommend at this point the way it vibrates. amzn.to/2UzOWfb This is an affiliate link.

My DeWalt 20v trimmer has worked great for the last 2 years. That funny looking DeWalt string works great. It lasts longer than other strings I have tried. Since I bought the DeWalt trimmer I haven’t used my gas trimmer. The DeWalt starts easier and makes less noise.

I dumped mine, it wasn't comfortable to use and never ran vibration free. Switched to Milwaukee M18 and what a difference. Dewalt has been giong downhill the last couple years. Guess the lower prices keep people buying them. Thanks for watching.

THANK YOU so much for your update! I will await you and your wife's final verdict after you all use it! Incredible how companies just don't care about quality issues... I hope you told them you have almost 100K followers who are their exact target audience? THAT should have made them care. Yes, you REALLY have to be careful what you buy on Amazon these days. There's a lot of counterfeiting going on too. I am old enough to remember the days when people conserved and when things were made to last. Every area had lots of clever, inventive, handy repairmen that fixed things and those things went on to be useful for decades - not a couple years... or 90 days 'till the warranty expires. If you get a moment, I would like to know which gas trimmer you recommend? I bought a HITACHI gas leaf blower a few years back and that machine is a beast. SO reliable. Thanks again for your response. (I can't post a response here for some mystery reason, so I have to write a new comment.)

I ordered a brand new head for a video and should have it soon. It's $25.00 but worth it to me plus it should make the trimmer last longer. The dewalt one is a good paperweight. My wife can't use anything like this with her current back condition. I don't tell them anything about my channel. I want the same treatment everyone else would receive otherwise it wouldn't be accurate for everyone. I use 2 echo srm gas wackers that have been wonderful. There is a video back a ways about them. They are sold at home depot but best to buy from a local dealer that will start them up and retune it if needed after a couple tanks of fuel. I had a very expensive Stihl before them and it was hard starting, heavy, and vibrated bad. KZfaq is using all bots lately and I find many comments in spam or blocked area but haven't seen any of your posts in them.

Bought this last Friday. Used Saturday, very impressed. No fuel to be messing around with, battery lasted 30 minutes on high . That covers my needs . Although I have spare batteries on hand . I moved forward grip in front of hinge . Suits me better 🇮🇪Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪

I got rid of mine and switched to Milwaukee. This one was very uncomfortable to use and made my hands numb from vibration. The Milwaukee costs a little more but is very smooth andthe handle can be adjusted for perfect ballance. Replacing all my dewalt battery tools with Milwaukee now. Thanks for watching.

THANK YOU for this video!!! I just bought my first house and my first string trimmer, and I was struggling with the handle of all things. It seemed weird that it came assembled and I would need to disassemble it, and the manual sucks. Most videos skipped showing the handle installation, I guess they thought users want to watch them cut grass?! Your video was so helpful.

Bought mine about 2 weeks ago, just as a one to throw in the truck and take off to work, I haven't had any issues and was very very impressed at the power it has, I do use commercial weedeaters and this is just nice to have around the house or just bring it to work if your iffy about having to weedeat or not. No vibrations for me. Just my experience!

SAME deal with me. I too just bought that battery powered DEWALT HEDGE TRIMMER last fall and was considering this exact trimmer because of the interchangeable battery! THANK YOU, thank you for this review! Just in time! I was just about to pull the trigger on this purchase too. String trimmers are the bane of my summer existence. I HATE the fumes and the maintenance of the gas powered ones. My shoulders are always killing me the next day after hours of using the big ones. I have a massive amount of trimming around endless flower beds, shrubs, fences, sheds, trees, etc. With past years of wet springs and summers the trimming is endless. A few years ago I bought an excellent battery trimmer by CORE, Made in the USA (CORE GasLess Power CGT400 CGTSD Powered Trimmer.) They have since put some stupid, clumsy, awkward safety feature on the starter button - then sold the company. I have also bought and tried out all sorts of gas powered trimmers that I ended up returning. There was always something wrong with them. Too long. Too unbalanced. Too much vibration, etc. I am not tall. Handling some of those machines that are made for large men did NOT work for me. There were times I felt like crying because the pain just added up in wet seasons. So, it looks like I am in the same boat as your wife. Gas fumes give me a throbbing headache and I am STILL looking for a solution. *Please please please keep updating if you find a solution.* I don't know what else to try. Thanks again.

My wife can't breathe if I come in the house with those fumes on my clothes anymore. Her throat closed up and she gags. We can't go to a restaurant anymore because if someone one table over used a fragrant shampoo or detergent on their clothes she can't breathe. Its definitely tough living with immune system disorders. Anything natural is ok but synthetic smells are very bad. I liked how this was a 14 inch model and decided to try it. The vibration is very uncomfortable on my hands and Dewalt wants me to bring it to a repair center that's 86 miles away or send it back. I just tried removing the line to see if that is the cause and it got worse. Definitely something wrong with the head. I just was going to set up a return and found that I bought it from a second party on Amazon and would have to pay the return shipping and a 20% restocking fee so a replacement head is cheaper then the other options. I should have read the seller policy before buying, I thought everything went by Amazon's policy and didn't think I would have a problem. I am seeing that Dewalt has had many problems with the heads on their previous 20 volt units now that I am searching and that's why they have different letters at the end of the model number marked on the trimmer but not on the box so you can't tell. This one is very unbalanced feeling and vibrates bad so I definitely would not recommend it. Home Depot sells them and would be the best place to buy one in case they are all like this and to feel the ballance. All those pivot parts add weight and this wo feel much more balanced without that feature. It really sucks that manufacturers all make different batteries so your stuck with the brand you start with. I will let you know if a different head makes a difference. My echo gas trimmer is a dream to use compared to this with low vibration, great balance, and a comfortable strap. Thanks for watching.

Turns out its definitely a bad head. I decided to see if the head from my echo gas trimmer would fit and it screwed right on. It got rid of almost all the vibration and is a very reliable head.I plan on picking up a new one and will make a video after using it for a while. Makes me wonder why Dewalt didn't care about the issue.

Dewalt did the same thing to me. I bought the 7491RS table saw and the fence was not quite square to the table so I asked them if they could tell me how to adjust the fence because there was not mention of it in the book. I expected a simple answer to a simple question and I got back the I have to take to a service center response like you did.

That seems to be the answer from them. I thought they would offer some tips or look up if there were any recalled batches with this problem. I am going to try new string first. UPDATE... original post down below.. I bought one to try it out. First time I used it the vibration was really noticable, after one 5ah battery my hands were numb for an hour and my arms were sore! I then bought some padded work gloves for $15 (says they are recommend for chainsaw use) and bought a comfortable neck strap for $19. Gloves helped a lot to minimize vibration and the strap helped lessen the load my hands had to carry, which also helped reduce vibration. After using it for TWO 5ah batteries I didn't notice any numbness in my hands and no arm strain. Only complaint I have now is that it has a square shaft and the neck strap attachment didn't fit, and I had to improvise a way to attach the strap to my trimmer. I did that by using a small loop strap I had, just wrapped it around the shaft before the handle and tied it into a knot, then clipped the strap to it. I might have to figure something else out to attach the strap to the shaft of the trimmer, but worked for now. Seemed pretty well balanced with the strap attached before the handle, but will try it after the handle closer to the battery. Original comment: Was going to buy one if these except all the reviews I can find complain about the vibration. I will not be spending my money on this tool for sure after watching this video. Even watched your follow up video where u used a balanced head. Makes sense that's where the issue is. But im not spending another $30 to fix something that should be balanced out if the box. People should avoid this product from DeWalt.

Have you tried a different trimmer line yet? I just recently picked one of these up for my own house, noticed the vibration. Filled the spool with my go-to echo crossfire instead and it is much smoother while keeping a decently aggressive cut, although with the head Mounted motor I still notice some resonance down the shaft at certain rpm. Also modified the guard for now as I like a longer line lead out for edging. I’m a landscaper (15 years) so have had a good bit of experience with different lines. To me the Twisted style lines always seem the worst for vibration and standard round line typically the smoothest but doesn’t last or cut as clean.

I did a follow up and it was the head. I replaced it with a echo head and most of the vibration is gone. The battery still picks up a vibration and multiplies it. Most uncomfortable piece of junk to use. That hinge location really screws up the ergonomics. I definitely would not buy it again or reccomend it. Switched to the vortex line that really lasts. Thanks for watching.

I am grateful we were lucky and/or wise enough to get our seed orders filled in time. I see a run on the seeds now. Went to order extra greens and saw so much sold out already. Baker Creek is out of a lot. High Mowing Seeds started out with a lot of crop failures also and were short to start with. Have you ever tried FEDCO seeds? They are a Co-op and have good prices and reliable seeds for gardening in the N.E. We must all grow more flowers to cheer our world up and make it beautiful again. I thank the good Lord we have THIS commander-in-chief in charge of things in this particular crisis. We will come out of this and be better than ever. At least until the election. I think many will start gardening this year to know where their food is coming from and who touched it. I am getting ready to set up the new beds but can't get compost to fill them with the current restrictions on businesses in NY. I have basically only used Baker Creek Seeds and my saved seeds. I tend to agree with the U of R Medical Center spokesman that a couple days ago said they are prepared for the worst case scenario that everyone eventually will get Covid19 and social distancing will spread it out so the medical system isn't overloaded. It's definitely a scary time in our history and I can't believe there are some trying to put 1200 pages of pork fat in relief legislation. Hope you stay safe. The only things we are missing is a cow for milk and chickens for eggs 🐂🐣.

Just a thought, but if there’s a bit of play meaning you could do the tighten up the catch on the hinge a little, wonder if it might be worth inserting a thin piece of rubber or foam between the knuckle joint surfaces which would remove the play and (hopefully) dampen the vibrations moving up the metal shaft. Have had my eye on some of the Dewalt gardening tools for a while (as have plenty of their power tools) but I get the impression that they’re often just not quite ‘there’ yet in perfecting the designs, including ergonomics. Time will tell if the up their game to compete with the likes of Stihl who seem to dominate the professional user market in this product area (at least in the UK), given their long history and experience with petrol / "gas" powered products. I think I might just have to stump up the extra cash for the better thought out Stihl gear for now, but time will tell - especially as battery technology improves and cheaper Sodium batteries replace Lithium.

Do the strings on head have anything to do with it ?

I am ordering different string to try. Dewalt wouldn't answer that. Thanks for watching.

I'm not happy with mine. They put the hinge in the wrong place limiting where the handle can be placed to get a balanced feel. Makes it hard to get a flat cut and is tough on my back. I replaced the spool with an echo head that helps the vibration issues. First dewalt tool that I wouldn't recommend. Thanks for watching.

I will report back and tell you if I have the same issues with the head. Fingers crossed. My yard is small so I will probably just deal with it.

Just tested mine. Can confirm same vibration in my unit. Did they even test this product? I wouldn't bring this to market with that vibration. Extended use could really do some damage.

Their support is useless. The center of the head floats to the side causing it to go off ballance. See my other video about how the echo head got rid of most of the vibration. But you can't fix the ballance and mine is very hard on my back. I would return it if you can.

Well, I'm afraid I don't share the same sentiments you do. There is vibration. BUT it was not at all noticable while hitting any amount of grass. It lasted a very good amount of time. I did enjoy using this product and I would purchase it again. However, I do not have many other units to compare to so maybe it is shit and I don't know it. For my money, I did my whole yard that was knee high and around my small house without fumes in my face, motor noise or two cycle fuel to mess with. I'm okay with this.

I brought one and it lasted about a month. First the batteries don't last as well as they should. 2nd the head quit working as far as being able to put the line in and twist it and 3rd, I tried to take said head off and it didn't comply and it's in a dumpster in town. I'll stick with my Stihl. I'm really disappointed with this Dewalt product.

I replaced this with a Milwaukee m18. Dewalt is really going downhill these days. This was uncomfortable to use, not much power, and vibration. Thanks for watching.

It's not a review just a first look as stated. I have other videos about it and it's definitely not something I would waste money on again. Very poor ergonomics and vibrates . Thanks for watching

I tell you there is no customer service anymore with some of these big companies. Its aggravating. They could have sent you a new head to try, it would have cost them pennies. I buy all my stuff from Lowes, never a problem with a return. I let them deal with the manufacturers. Thanks for sharing........

They don't try to isolate the issue and offer suggestions. Plus service centers only handle certain lines and the lawn and garden one is almost a 200 mile round trip from my home using their locator. Would have normally bought it from Home Depot but haven't left the house in a couple weeks. I think it's a defective head design because I removed the line to see if that's the issue and it got worse. The spool is not held centered in the head that looks to be throwing it off ballance so maybe they know a new head won't make much difference. After searching I see they have had many problems with the self feeding heads in the past. Thanks for watching.

The head looks to big something that small to have big needs to be balanced but I don't know just saying cause I had to balance my wind turbine

It doesn't vibrate at all with the head off. I think it turns 6k rpm where a windmill turns much slower with a rigid structure. Thanks for watching.

OUTFRIGGENSTANDING! I just wrapped my piece of shit homelite around a tree because it refused to start! I WAS planning on buying this dewalt. Now, I'm out a weed eater AGAIN! I don't give a damn about this thing folding, too bad it has a stupid hinge. Besides, this thing looks too long unless you are 7ft tall. As bullshit as this will sound, I wonder if anyone has cut one of these down, trashed the hinge, welded it back together as a one piece and moved the handle? I know they sell a cheaper non hinge version, but it's a bigger piece of junk than this one! Thanks for the heads up. I think.

I wouldn't buy it again. I tried taking it apart to see if the shaft could be flipped to lower the hinge but you can't without destroying the over molding. I replaced the head with an echo head that got rid of most of the vibration. I am 5 11 and it's very uncomfortable for me. You can see they knew it was screwed up and have the logo on the handle upside down to try to move the grip down. I definitely will not recommend this model. Thanks for watching.
