Looks like a good choice. Project Farm reviewed a bunch of multi-tools, and this DeWalt ranked in the top 3 in his tests. A Milwaukee ranked higher, but it cost twice as much.

As an electrician, I cut 2x4s ect on the regular with this. Why? Because jigsaws and sawzalls leave a horrible edge while also being much more prone to hitting wires behind the wall.

I have heard that it was invented back in 1967 for cutting plaster casts by doctors. It was then adapted to a multi tool by the company, the patent ran out 25 yrs later in the early 90s and everyone and their dog was selling one. I have the same tool and it is great but I just don't do that much renovation work anymore. Like you I sure could have used the heck out of one 40 yrs ago.

Purchased a Milwaukee unit 3 -4 years ago. It was well used finishing my camp. Great for cutting vinyl siding, cutting door stop & trim in place, for snap-Loc flooring. As you showed just awesome handy tool. Another great vid, keep them coming Steve

This tool is a great "all rounder" tool to have in your arsenal. For people who either do the odd renovations in their house or contractors that are doing bigger jobs and need something on the spot, that is quick, versatile and something that is smaller than sawzall or what have you... It's really once you have it that you realize you could have saved so much time having one on job sites years before.

You got spoilt rotten with that adaptor, the long sharp blade is for removing silicone and sealants. There was a long standing pattern in place for this tool. I have put cheap corded versions of these tools in practice, they have shown be resilient and reliable. The one you own has been rated as one of the best. Great tool for renovating and restoration. Homes, boats....

I borrowed my nephew's once to cut an opening for an outlet and thought about getting one for myself but had to justify would I be using it much. Well I ended up picking up a Dewalt cordless with the adjustable speeds. I ended up using it for some projects I didn't plan on. One was I needed to replace some boards on my patio stairs and if I didn't have this tool I would of had to remove some good boards in order to get at some rotted ones. With this tool I just cut away around where the rotted board was nailed down and then got my prybar in between the cut and pried the board out. Another project was to replace some portions of siding and I used the tool to do some final cutting where the bad siding overlapped the good siding and also I had to cut around some trim board I didn't want to removed all while on a ladder. Third project was I got some new exterior light fixtures but the bases were longer than my old old fixtures that fit on my lap siding. Since these were longer they over lapped the next one leaving a gap. I couldn't really find any mounting blocks that would work so I ended up making a filler piece and I used this tool to cut and shape 3 filler pieces that contoured to the fixture base and painted them to match my siding and it looks professional. H/D often has this tool packaged and priced at a good deal vs just buying the tool bare or with just a battery. Pay attention though if you plan on getting one of these Dewalts because they have several models.

LOL @ 16:14! 😆 That made me chuckle! I would kinda echo ‘ HuntingFarmer’s sentiments, regarding one of these tools. But when you need one, it is great to have one! I believe that Fein created this tool, For the specific purpose of cutting off casts on a patient, without tearing their skin up! I had to look it up for the date, and the Internet says 1967. I have had my electric Bosch for about 5 years now, and it has been a tremendous help. Ya gotta wear eye and especially EAR Protection! My Bosch is deafening! In fact, I used it this weekend, to cut the end of a nail off, where it had missed the joist, and might rub on some PEX I had going down below the floor. It was up in a soffit/duct chase, and nothing else would work. I used a metal blade, and it was cut in like three seconds. The Dewalt is a really good model, and I would probably own that, if I didn’t get the Bosch. I did pick up a cordless Bosch model, that was a deal of the Day at Lowe’s. At least Bosch puts a nice long cord on the electric one. Stay safe and Healthy! 👍✌🇨🇦🇺🇸

Lol great job steve, i have had a old crapy tire one and when i first moved here and i have used it for so much stuff, i like how good of a job it does on flush cutting door trim on the ground if you do tile and need it cut. I used flush cut saw but the oscillating saw is great. You need to use ear plugs with mine but love it. I have a old video on my phone of a battery one i have from Canadian tire i was going to do on the battery one it.

I resurfaced my 18x40 deck. Had about about 300 or so screws strip or head snap off trying to get out. This is the best and only tool I can think of that will cut through between the deck board and the joist and cut the screw flush with the joist. So yes they make fairly easy work of deck screws if you have the right blades. If you can pull the board leaving the screw behind, the angle grinder cuts it much faster and I would use that, but the multi tool is more precise.

When I bought the Ryobi one I bought it because I thought of all the times in the past it would have made my life easier. I haven't used it at all since buying it lol. I know it'll get used eventually, but not yet. It was also under a hundred bucks and I dunno if you've noticed or not, but I'm a bit of a Ryobi fan. That fastening system on the DeWalt is great. I like the Makita grinders disc lock system too

I’m not buying one but my Son has one that I can borough and I’m sure it would be a pleasure for him to lend it to me. I can think of one place where I could have use this tool in the past but I didn’t know it existed was on the old farm house I was doing the porch outside and had to cut boards in very close quarters and with a mini saw I could only get to about a quarter inch on a angle....this would have bin a shoe in for that job.....Good review Steve......CHEERS

My problem is that I never want to get rid of my old tools even though I buy new ones. I still keep and repair all my old ones which I hardly use. I now have so many, they take up too much space but I love them so much I don't want to get rid of any. I am now 71 and very frail and some are too heavy for me to use. I need to downsize but still use tools nearly every single day and still buy new ones. Is there any hope for me?
