DFW Airport people mover

Now replaced by Skylink, a tram system that rides on the roof of the various airline terminals, with evenly spaced stations reachable by elevators & escalators.American Airlines called the system shown here the "TrAAm". This is my first video showing equipment & transit systems that have been taken down.

Thanks for making this video it's nice to see the Vought AirTrans people mover and it's Glory Days before it was replaced by Skylink

I agree, too. It's so much better than being stuck in traffic or taking long walks to your plane. America did this taking down with most of its trolley systems & a lot of its railroads over the 20th century. A number of its cities reinstituted light rail, a modern version of trolleys. Portland, OR andSeattle are but 2 examples here in the US.

This is so cool! Thank you for uploading this! I haven't been to the DFW airport since I was in 4th grade (early 97 I think) and I rode on this at night so I couldn't see much of it.

chrisz71 you are so lucky to ride that people mover I never get a chance to write it in my life but I always saw it as I was leaving the airport since the tracks parallel to South Highway exiting the airport a lot of it is now gone Here is a video from what is left of the former people mover kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mrh_ZsJm1cuUZoE.html

I agree with you 100 percent. Taking down electrically powered rail systems, especially if they are successful, is crazy. The old trolley systems and many old railroads have been ripped out by the auto & highway interests in the USA uncontrollably. In Europe and other parts of the world ,they saved them & preserved them with continual upkeep, much smarter.

I agree. To be single tracked, slow, & the vehicles be non reversible was dumb. I heard talk of this peoplemover being replaced back in 1998.

It seems like that train is pretty fast, but why was it replaced by the skylink anyway?

The biggest problem with the Air Trans was, after security was hightened, it took too long to transfer to other terminals. You see, the Air Trans was outside of security. It was fun to ride though, I always looked forward to it each time I went through DFW.
