Although our regular videos are educational, we typically focus on problems with vehicles themselves. But what about the Automotive trades as a whole?
If you are in the industry as a shop/business owner, a technician, or a customer, this video will shed some light on the issues we as a trade face every day.

An automotive teacher once told me “auto technicians have to be smarter than doctors” Why? Because the human body doesn’t change, but technology in cars is always changing. If you don’t keep educating yourself every year, in 5 to 10 years you’ve become obsolete and a “parts changer” ... no longer a technician. I hear customers all the time telling me how hard it is to find a good and honest mechanic. That’s because there’s a lot people out there not willing to put the work and effort required to become masters at their craft, which makes us all look bad in this industry. You nailed it man, I’m with you, I hope one day the stigma we mechanics have goes away, and to all the hard working, honest mechanics out there... you’re not alone! Keep educating yourself, and always strive to be the best you can be in anything you do in life.

Well said. I am an arborist and own a tree company and run into a lot of the same problems. I also find that communication and clear expectations/education is the key to client acquisition and retention.

Just bought a 2020 ford ranger, my question is are the 2.3l Ecoboost have the same issues the 3.5l twin turbo has, also should I use synthetic oil in the 2.3? Ty

You were born in 1986? You aren't even dry behind the ears yet....a mere child. (Just kidding!) I have been doing this longer than you have been alive. I had my 1984 Ford EXP towed to the dealership for a timing belt. The car had 18,000 miles and was out-of-warranty. They told me the bill was $532.20 and the engine had bent valves. The car had a 1.9 liter engine. HHHMMMMM. That engine is non-interference, how could it have bent valves? Then last year I gave our friends at the dealership one last chance. They said they performed a brake inspection. I got home and checked the lug nuts I marked before I took the truck over. They hadn't moved. I questioned them and they said they didn't remove the wheel. How did they do in inspection? Good luck with changing that stigma. Great video!

Kolten as a positive, solution based business, we're sorry you and your boss's expectations could not be met a few years ago. We do not respond to negativity in the trade and instead work to improve the trades as a whole. At any time we would be glad to discuss any future needs of any customer automotive related (this has always been the case). Like I noted in the video and relay to anyone I meet, the customers expectations and budget must match while keeping safety and reliability a top priority.
