2017 6.2L GMC Sierra, 55,000 miles, lifter failure after 59 months of use and bent pushrod. Bought new, always serviced with full synthetic Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter. Would be interested to know failure rate of AFM/DOD lifters. Seems only a matter of time before a lifter is lost/fails. Debating how to move forward. Only symptom was ticking noise, no codes, no misfires.

The afm system is not the only troublesome area of the 4th gen LT V8 engines .. the variable displacement oil pumps have a high failure rate as well ... My 2015 Sierra 5.3L went through 3 oil pump assemblies in 4 months before I traded the truck off . Poorly designed and engineered parts. GM's QDR has gone down hill . Very disappointing

That was interesting. I have a 2013 Sierra with afm but no problems yet. I know it’s comin though

In theory, a good idea. Were they able to pull it off with reliability or longevity? Not a chance. GM started this in 2007. To bad the class action lawsuits dont cover that far back. Lot of people got ripped off. GMs fault? Not entirely. Federal government constantly pushing manufactures for increased fuel efficiency standards. Who ultimately pays for these failures? The consumer
