"Doesn't have a rear sway bar?" I just saw the rear sway bar (0:25)! LOL
@bennieaust

It’s a “twist-beam” rear suspension. It doesn’t use an anti-sway bar.

Nice video. I'm anticipating rust related issues with my 2010 bought in 2009. I'm on my 3rd set of pads and rotors on 72k miles because the dealer didn't service the slide pins unless requested. The most recent service needed new steel brake lines, I assume from rust, but it was spraying break fluid in front of the left rear wheel.
@bennieaust
@bennieaust Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yikes, these things are known to go 100’s of thousands of miles without needing any brake work because of the regen braking. Hopefully that’s all straightened out. Calipers can also stick so the slide pins may not be the only thing going on. Rust is pretty much what kills brake lines. Here in MN I deal with a lot of rotten brake lines on vehicles. I use nickel copper brake line. It’s super easy to work with and should address the corrosion issue.

Not sure what they replaced it with but it was a 10 day back order and i assume it's an oem part. What's the best way for me to extend their life since I have a short commute of 8.4miles each way and rarely drive long distance? On the one hand I could save wear and tear with gentle breaking etc but think harder breaking might deter rusting or seizing. I was very grumpy on the 2nd set 13k after the previous change and he showed me the gummed up slide pins and uneven pads. I asked about warranty and was told they only have a 12 month warranty which expired.
@bennieaust
@bennieaust Жыл бұрын
@@woodstream6137 , gentle braking will rely most on the regen braking, not the friction (brake pads) braking. Corrosion on the other hand will be fought off by use and getting warmed up, moved around and dried up, so more frequent use and longer trips would definitely be helpful in fighting that.

Very nice , but I’m surprised you did not look over the sway bar bushings ?
@bennieaust
@bennieaust Жыл бұрын
I probably should have at least mentioned them. I don’t replace many sway bar bushing and it seems to be certain models. The ford panther platform, Honda pilots, Lexus GX, 15-20 year old Chrysler minivans. That being said they can wear out on anything so it wouldn’t be bad to double check them.

I have a clinging noise coming from my left front wheel, sort of like having change in your car that rattles. Swapped out bad front shocks and sway bar end links but noise is still present. Think it’ll be the lower ball joint and tie rod ends? Also, after replacing the shocks with Monroe’s, the front feels very stiff. Any ideas ?
@bennieaust
@bennieaust Жыл бұрын
Could be ball joint, inner or outer tie rod ends, control arm bushings, loose brake backing plate. You'll have to poke around and see what you can find. Usually it will feel stiff with fresh struts in there. I think the new ones do soften up a bit with use, but it speaks more to the fact that the old ones were really bad. It's a good sign if you can tell the difference between the 2. It means it was really needed.

I just replaced the away bar link and outer tie rod just like you do. But now I am getting louder clunking than before. Any idea what could cause this?
@bennieaust
@bennieaust 4 ай бұрын
Following along with this video and searching for the loose parts is always a good starting point even with some new parts installed. You took care of a couple possibilities, but there could be several other things, inner tie rod ends, ball joints, control arm bushings, struts or strut mounts, wheel bearings. Also make sure everything you installed is tightened down correctly. If it actually got louder after the repair, inspecting what you replaced would be a good starting point.

the tires being new is an issue, what did the used tires look like?
@bennieaust
@bennieaust Жыл бұрын
It definitely wasn’t an issue for me. Bad tires can cause a noise very similar to a bad wheel bearing. I’m guessing that you’re saying that because I’m unable to “read” the wear on the tires and use that to help diagnose. I have run in to so many variables with tires, like someone just rotated them, or someone just swapped the wheels out,, or someone has run them consistently low on pressure, that personally I don’t trust tire wear. I hadn’t worked on this car before it had the new tires installed but was happy to work on it afterwards. Thanks for watching.

Alright... I caught you while you were looking at them front wheels 😂 --the front was on your left and then you changed the camera angle and again the front was on your left but you called it the right side of the car 😮🤪 And YES there is a ''sway bar'' in the rear... Just doesn't look like the front one as it's only in the middle as another viewer pointed out 😊 Okay, Soooo, do I get a better deal on your labor since you're only working on one side of the vehicle 😅🎉
@bennieaust
@bennieaust Жыл бұрын
Lol, not sure about the camera angle thing. Did I misspeak and call it the wrong side? or do you think i was still working on the same side of the car and did a mirror image? I'm way to low budget for that. I think if you look at the scrape on the front side of the wheel well on the bumper cover (drivers side) and the fact it's not on the passenger side, that may answer your question. Either way, I never thought my videos would become a "Where's Waldo" search. haha
