In this video I'm discussing some of my favourite major pentatonic scale patterns. Easy to learn, and great for smooth and flowing melodies.

So many online and well meaning instructors are just lick machines and seem to think that a sprinkling of theory will chase us away . Adrian is the perfect combo of technique and theory that enables us , on our own, to make our way around the fretboard and aspire to sound like the master

Hey Adrian, i can say I'm sure not the best guitar player around - but then again i honestly don't want to be 'flashy' or a 'shredder' or the like... I just want to play music that feels good, with a little taste and style... You've bought my playing leaps and bounds towards that goal - TY for what you do bro!

He’s saying his students have asked him why their solos are boring. He’s not saying his own solos are boring. Also, even though his solos in these videos are meant for instruction they’re also meant to be pieces of music that are enjoyable to listen to.

It's like you've read my mind Today I have been using your Stormy Monday tutorial to learn the classic blues but have been struggling to solo in the G major scale as I have been stuck in the minor / blues scale and wanted to add some major sounding licks . This has been a great help to get that major sound. Love your lessons and teaching style the practical and theory mix is top draw Thanks for all your work over the years to put such a comprehensive library of lessons just a click away. Back to Stormy Monday then after getting some of this under my fingers 👍😁

Great video, Adrian. Another idea for a "next" video would be to extend this major pentatonic lesson to playing over the changes of a chord progression. It's already sort of two thirds of the way there: in the key of G, use the G maj pentatonic over the I chord, the C maj pentatonic over the IV chord, and (new material) use D maj pentatonic over the V chord (and adding/subbing in the b7 of the D maj scale to get that dominant sound). Just a thought to take this to the next step.

Very awesome that you're teaching this! My guitar teacher taught me these scales in the late '80s and I've made more use out of these than anything else in all of the years of playing since. They are so easy to learn and yet sound fantastic! Everyone should study this. Even for me, these are a lot of new licks I can learn to freshen up my playing! Thank you!!
