1983 was a very special time in my life. The Diana Ross concert in Central Park, though I was not there, I have slot of memories from that time. The #1 song on the charts was I'll be Watching You by the Police, at it's third if 8 weeks st #1. #2 was Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant, #3 was Flash dance by Irene Cara, #4 was Never gonna let You Go by Sergio Mendez, and #5 was Wanna be Starting' Something' by the late Michael.Jackson. Other notable songs were, Our Bus by Mad, at #7, Sweet Dreams are made of These by The Eurythmics, at #11, which would hit #1 by Labor Day Weekend, ending The Police's 8 week reign st #1. 1983 was a very hot summer, and these thunderstorms that cut short the Diana Ross concert, also brought an end to a stifling heat wave which had been gripping the region for over a week. Most of those songs can still be heard on the radio now, specifically on radio stations that specialize in 70's and 80's songs. These songs should also bring back.memories of those days. Diane Ross also had a hit at that time with Pieces of Ice at #35.

I was there in Central Park just before the storm. We had just arrived in NYC on my first foreign holiday. Thexstorm was so intense. We went for supper, thunder, lightning, terrific rain over the city. Then we heard news of the washed out concert. It was strange because we walked in Central Park right before that and so many people started coming into the park. We had no idea why! The flight into NYC was so turbulent over the city, with the heat and humidity. A masdive storm was brewing. The next day we went up the Empire State Building and ot was so beautiful, fresh and clear. I wish I had been at that second concert that day but we had a great time in NYC and it's so cool to have been so close when she made these wonderful performances.

I was there with my Sister-in-law, Debra along with her Brother, Ronnie. It was pouring rain, and we had to run and stand in some store. Finally got back on the train, headed back to White Plains NY. Priceless memory.

875,000 was the original day 1 crowd count. It’s a million people. 600,000 returned the next day rain free. Even Billboard Mag got the numbers wrong. The concert was for building a playground which is still in Central Park today.

I remember that concert too well. I wanted to go so bad, but couldn't. I had just gave birth to my daughter 2 weeks earlier( June 20). I heard she gave 🔥 performance! The 80's!
