I still have 3bxs of the 20ea IG infantry! One is opened and the Sargent is built, but otherwise, I have 59 of the original guardsmen still boxed! LMAO!!! Price tags say I paid $35usd for 20 guard in a box. Ahh, the good old days when you got both quality AND quantity for a reasonable price. I also have 4bxs of the 20ea Beastmen, and 3bxs ea of High Elf Spearmen & Archers too....

"Sentinel sold separately" I'm fairly sure that's a mistake. The trailer had that disclaimer for the commissar and the HWTs, and I think they left it in for the sentinel bit by accident. Because in the same Warhammer Community it says "The box contains 20 Cadian Shock Troops, a Command Squad, a Field Ordnance Battery, and a Sentinel..." Also the army pictures show the sentinel included.

Wargames Atlantic has some great ranges for basic troops. I'm picking up some Boxers for my Cities of Sigmar horde army. $35 for 30 minis is almost as cheap as I can 3d print them.

Calling it now. $65 a guard squad, $75 heavy weapons and $100 for the new artillery, it'll be mostly monopose. And that's so that aftermarket and 3rd party bits sellers can't take advantage of the new sculpts. I hate to say that but that's the way it's been for 40k models lately.

I'm still advocating you get the STL's for one of the Atlan Forge Space Marine armies and go from there. You fulfill your promise (you still bought em after all) while getting better looking Space Marines and you don't give GW the money.

My favourite classic guard models are the Praetorian Guard. I have the original games day box. Also includes my favourite commissar sculpt.

I think we've all got models and a plan and at this point we make our own rules using whatever edition we like the most or even our own rules entirely. You put the PHWAR into Warhammer. (I like cultist or dark Eldar skit girl with knows on.)

I just preordered a few boxes of non-Catachan sci-fi jungle fighters from Wargames Atlantic to refresh my Imperial Guard army with some more modern sculpts. Oh, and I recently found a long lost box of minis from the earliest '90s... containing a whole lot of Rogue Trader era IG miniatures. Enough for three whole squads, command elements, and two Rough Rider Teams. I'm very happy, as along a couple 3PP vehicles will make an excellent 1K Human defence Force army for... well, for another game. 😂

Corrections about the killteam bundles. You dont have to buy them for the single team you want in it. Almost all of the killteams have there own seperate boxes out now, veteran guardsmen, ork kommamdos, the void weaver eldar w.e., bloodied traitor guard. All of them are in there own individual boxes, you dont have to ever get a preorder box cause you can wait till the individual team boxes drop

I just picked up Wargames atlantic canon fodder, they can be built to look like soldiers or prisoners or spacemen/hazmat suit. depending how you build and paint them.

I painted up thirty of them with the gas masks, yellow base coat and yellow speed paint over the top. "Yellow" speed paint is actually orange, so great conscripts or penal legion.

I'm so glad to see you plug Wargames Atlantic. Really a great option for building custom IG forces at a very good price. Some of their models are a little wonky but for the most part I've been really happy with them and I love swapping parts around from their different kits.

My fave guard regiment was always the Chem Dogs, who have never had viable support from GW, but have great proxy options from Victoria Miniatures and Anvil Industries. Both great sites for guard players that can play where proxies are welcome.

If you’re going to paint a space marine army, may I suggest you create your own chapter. That’s what I did, and it was very rewarding. I’d genuinely be fascinated to see what law and colour scheme you would concoct.

Rounded sentinels are a little bit of a callback to the old eggs-on-legs version, the Commissar looks a little bit like Commissar Holt from final liberation, but the version you get off wish, Field Artillery not including Thudd guns is nearly the biggest betrayal in here if it wasn't for finally giving us new Kasrkin that will cost 50 quid a squad on ebay until they can be bothered to split them off...

I literally run conscripts supported with special weapon sqauds and stormtroopers loaded up on flamers. I would have to make some radical additions to my collection to make it playable.

Another way of looking at it though - is that you have months to SAVE UP to buy just what you need. That is the hook: seeing the rich kids get theirs first makes you want to get them yourself - and now that you have hype and savings - you will get them. Then, when you do, you will have about a day of satisfaction before the next cool thing comes out, and youll be saving your hard-earned cash for that next. Very clever, GW. On the other hand, GW also gets their money from the rich kids with daddy’s company card - because they just want to be the first to get everything.

honestly, I'm a bit worried they might be a little too tall and lanky, I personally like the scale that they're at right now compared to things like primaris Marines. I feel like it helps show how superhuman the space means are compared to the normal humans. also those knee guards and pretty much all the new helmets are something... lol

That’s what I’d like to know… it can’t be that hard to recreate the official figures with either a laser scanner or just being a decent 3D modeler. I’m surprised people don’t release copies of official figures - because how could a tournament possible say they aren’t?? You can always mod your figures, so real ones can still be a bit different but technically legit.

Space marines arent bad. I suggest black templars. The best army, zenithal prime them, black contrast and a lighter drybrush for minimal effort. 10 hellblasters are 330 points, 2x redemptors another 390. It will be done pretty quick

Astra Militarum is my favorite too. I just love the idea of ordinary blokes fighting battles Astartes might be called to do. What does Roboute Guilliman have that you do not? Mmmm, he's effectively immortal, crafted by the Emperor of Mankind, demonstrated himself against Horus himself, and--like every Primarch--is a gigantic biological mech with hands that can wrap around your waist. EDIT: Phallic imagery is always a plus............. *nosebleed* OK, you've won me over.

BAD - Tiny heads - Kneepads that don't work on kneeling models - Mechanicus sentinels with modern day chainsaw blade instead of 40k ones - minis will be more expensive as always - Kariskan locked in killteam box - Catachan needed a new sculpt more then cadians but no news on them - heavy weapons teams were able to get 4x heavy weapons out of the old kit with some kitbashing, new kit likely designed to not allow this. Good - Mek Gunz for Guard - Kariskan look great - heavy weapons back to 40mm base not looking ridiculous on a 50mm and now more maneuverability

For me this Starting box are great way to start an army, it is basically a Start Collecting + Codex + cards in a nice package and a discounted price... if you get it in your friendly shop it is even cheaper so I dont understand the criticism. What I usually do if I want to start an army is to buy this starting box and then 1 o 2 start collecting for around 300 euros you have almost an army.

Discourse Miniatures, my recommendation for a cost effective 2k Space marine army is get an Age of Darkness starter box and a Deimos pattern rhino. Those will come out to about a 2000-point army of first-born marines for 40k and just shy of a 2000-point army for a much better game (if you choose to do one of the first 18 legions). It will cost you at most £208 before tax, and that's if you get it from Games Workshop.

Bundling the models together as a FOMO bundle sucks. However, the act of releasing squads in Kill Team is good, I suspect that Kill Team is funding the release of squads for 40k that would not be released otherwise.

What annoys me is it looks like their increasing the base size of guardsman and decreasing base of heavy weapons squad.

I don´t like the new Cadians, and I specially do not like the new Kasrkin. Their new proportions have come together with reducing their armor, adding those silly kneepads, and most egregious of all for both the regulars and the Kasrkin... reducing the size of the Imperial eagle on their helmets. No, I´m not throwing that in as a joke. If you look at images of the older models, you will notice that the eagle is not simply a silly little detail like in the new ones. It was so to say "part of the model´s geometry". The eagle added weight and attitude. Specially on the old Kasrkin, who looked tougher, stronger and more determined because their body language, heavy armor, and the details on their helmets said "yeah, I´m confident I can parachute onto any enemy".

To this day the Kasrkin are easily the best 40k models ever made in my opinion. I have sold off most of my models from that era but went out of my way to keep my Kasrkin. When the Scions were released, their Conquistador aesthetic was laughably horrendous, and should have been in the more modern military style of the Kasrkins. We have enough gothic styled models and losing that variety was a mistake on GW's part. I will be buying Kasrkin squads on eBay when the Kill Team box releases, assuming they come down from their ludicrous $75 USD asking price which I think they will.

Gotta agree with you about the old commissar being better, he just looks like he's ready to shoot any coward at a moments notice, the new model looks more........... stoic I guess is the word I'm looking for? Anyhow as for your 2k point space marine army you have a 3d printer and I'm sure you have heard of pocket 40k/ pocket hammer right? Though I'd like to see you do a loyalist Night Lord army

Truth be told my favourite favourite favourite army is Witch Hunters. But my Witch Hunter force comprised mostly of all-infantry Guard. Beastmen are my (second) favourite fantasy army (Empire is my first :) ). Dark Eldar are on the list somewhere not sure where exactly though

The $195 cadian defense force (currently on gw website) has 20 guard, command, 3 heavy weapons, a chimera, and a russ. The new box is the same except it replaces the chimera with a sentinal and the russ with a codex. Such a downgrade.

Agree, except the kill team squad. Those will probably be releases pretty close to the rest of the new minis. Even tho this "hype building" just sucks. I'm still waiting for the demon prince to be released which will probably take a couple months bc he will be exclusive to the slaves of darkness army box first. Like why?! 40k is played much more so the release would make much more sense if it would be released with the other minis. Same with me new HH Heads. Releasing all of those with the army boxes would have made more sense. It's such weird marketing choices at times...

I betcha the Troll Trader delivers to you! Sure, you have to strip a lot of models, but man, you can save so much money. Space Marines are easy to get on the cheap. Plus you get to open the box and say "OMG, what the f--- did you do to these models, kid?" Then you work your magic and you glow inside because you're so clever and you gave the finger to the GW webstore.

Now, I didn't see the stream or the full context of the bet But did you specify which edition (or even game) the 2k worth of marines was going to be from? Because, I can tell you from personal experience that you can comfortably get to 2k worth of marines with just fifteen terminators and some characters in 2nd edition! Even barebonesing it with the Age Of Darkness and none of the upgrade boxes you get well over 2k even without turning the spartan into a land raider, hell, you could leave off the dread as well and get that old hit of Nothing But Footsloggers going Hell, you can paint up a 2000 point epic armageddon army in an afternoon And, as a bonus, the rulesets for both those games are more fun and rewarding than 9th ed anyway!

I am happy for any range refresh but honestly the proportions of new models seems kinda off. It's like they are something between true scale and heroic scale but neither. They have uncanny valley vibes.
