God is holy! Yesterday I was wondering in my thoughts whether people were saved or not prior to Christ and here is God answering the doubts in my heart by sending this ad. You see, I was born into a Mexican "Catholic" family that like many, never really read the bible and remained in ignorance and living in full sin. My elder sisters have been deep into the community for over a decade but I always judged them and thought of them as hypocrites not knowing that I was looking into a mirror. Now, I thank the Lord for their lives because through their prayer my mother, my daughter, and I have been seeking God's Word, Forgiveness, and Glory. We all have been amazed over the past couple of months by how he works in beautiful and perfect ways even when it is not our own ways. He has changed my complete view of the world and I am forever grateful. I can now freely and proudly say that I am a Catholic and that I have much to learn and I am willing to allow the Lord to take the person I once claimed to be and use me for whatever purpose he has for me and mold me to his will. I now understand the true meaning of Love. This world has lied to us and fed us with false joys in life, with temporary peace and misinformation. We should be the proudest among humans because we serve the Lord of mercy, the one and only God almighty. Now I understand that I should not only say I love and believe in God but act like it. Now I could care less about what anyone thinks of me for defending my creator, for spreading his word and love. His opinion of me is the only opinion I want to ever care of. I am praying for all of you and your beautiful families! Please pray for me and my family!

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:09 🙏 The episode discusses questions about death, Jesus descending into hell, Judgment Day, souls after death, and prayers for the deceased. 01:33 ⛪ Belief that Jesus descended into hell is part of the Creed; he saved holy people from the limbo of the Patriarchs, but not those in the hell of the Lost. 03:41 ⚖️ There are two judgments: the particular judgment after death and the last judgment at the End of Time; the last judgment accounts for lasting effects of actions. 05:45 💒 The Holy Mass is a powerful prayer for souls in purgatory, applying Jesus's merits; offering individual masses for the deceased is a pious practice. Thank you Father Ambrose Little for this insightful and enlightening teachings! About the limbo ofthe Patriarchs and the limbo of the loss! For the limbo of Patriarchs they are entitled for the saving Grace of God, Particular Judgement that will apply to all of us at the moment of our death and the Final Judgment a public Judgment in the end of the World! It really struck to me that is why there’s a Final Judgement Day is that our Good and Bad actions have still an effect and will reverberate like a ripple in a pond after our death in the future! As for me Im already 57 years old and honestly if somebody ask me what is the legacy that my father left unto me i will reply without hesitation that all the memories that my father left to me are bad ones in general but the Good thing is now after i processed all these negative emotions the traumas and hatred in my heart and mind i donot regret him anymore as my father, Amor Fati as the Stoic Philosopher Emperor Marcus Aurelius has said Love your fate! Now i have clarity and acceptance that the Good Lord God placed me in that particular situation with a particular father so that I’ll have a template a guide a compass in my future life of what bad things and evil things bad habits I should avoid and Good thing to balance everything God gave me a saintly mother as aGood example of what should be a Good virtues life is! I have watched the movie St Augustine the Bishop of Hippo 330 AD that we have like similar parents! He summed it all up his teaching in his Book the Confession that Our hearts are restless O Lord God until it rest unto Thee! Gautama Buddha once said In order to Honor a person living or dead is for us to follow and try to emulate and relive their legacy in life! That is to follow what Good example they gave us and to unfollow or try to avoid the bad things they showed to us. There are only two kind of person in this world, the one that brings happiness to us and the other one who teaches us lessons in life! K

#askafriar Thank you for the explanation of if Jesus did indeed descend into hell. I have a follow up question regarding this same topic. You stated the holy people of the Old Testament were waiting on our Lord to break then free to enter the kingdom. However, in the synoptic gospels, the authors describe the Transfiguration of Jesus and how Moses and Elijah appear next to Jesus and Jesus speaks to both Elijah and Moses. How is this possible if Elijah and Moses were in this limbo place?
@alexisrodrigues4767
@alexisrodrigues4767 Жыл бұрын
I strongly believe both Elijah and Moses were taken in body and soul to Limbo of Patriarchs, we know Elijah did and I believe even Moses after death was taken ( same as Our Lady's body and soul), as Moses body has never been found in Mount Nebo( in Jordan ) although he did go there to die. Limbo is a place of absolute peace either for Patriarchs and for unbaptized Innocents (who will be there till end of time), hence it is not a place of punishment. Hence both prophets did talk about Jesus salvation including theirs, to the world during transfiguration.

Jesus died and was put into the tomb until his resurrection, and the hell he went to was only the grave. Peter in Acts 2:27 applies the following words to Jesus: 'Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption'. The point he's making is that Jesus' body was not left in the grave to corrupt, but was raised by God, his father, from the dead. The words are quoted from Psalm 16 where David speaks of himself and his future resurrection and prophetically of his greater son, Jesus. Regarding David, Peter says 'that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day'. He says this to show that David's body was left in hell (the grave), and did see corruption, in contrast to Jesus who was not left there and saw no corruption.

I'm a _sola scriptura_ Protestant fundamentalist and about as far away from Roman Catholicism as someone could be, but I agree with the Catholic idea that Jesus Christ descended into Hell after His death on the Cross and preached the Gospel to the Old Testament saints (I'm using the word "saints" in the Protestant sense). There's enough evidence in the Bible, I think, to prove that Jesus descended into Hell.

I don't completely understand the statements around the 5:25 mark. I understand the point being made about lasting effects, but are lasting effects NOT taken into account during our first judgement? The video made it seem that God will only consider lasting effects at our final judgement. If that is the case then can somebody be granted Heaven during their first judgement but then (after taking into account the long-term effects of their actions) be cast into hell at their final judgement? Could the opposite happen where someone is originally sent to hell but then it turns out their lasting effects were positive so then they go to Heaven at the final judgment?
@arthurvalente8508
@arthurvalente8508 Жыл бұрын
I think the answer to your doubt is what Jesus says at Matthew 7:15-20 “Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.”. Perhaps (I might be wrong),as said in the video, the lasting effects will contribute to the glory of those who went to Heaven and to the despair of those who went to hell considering that good people, who gave good fruits, would be able to see how many people were saved by the testimony of the souls themselves and this would be a way to increase the glory such as the other passage from Matthew 25:14-30 in which a lord gives mines to his workers and the one who retributed 10x the initial value receive 10 cities and other got 5- the value and received 5 cities, showing different ways or intensities of glorification (the same applied to the ones who were condemned).

I don’t think it’s possible to someone have their sentence revoked by the time of the final Judgment. It would probably diverge from God’s justice by letting the person’s final destiny aside from its free will. I’m not dead yet to confirm this (lol) but when the time comes we have to have allowed good fruits to happen!

Arthur puts it perfectly, but as Fr. Ambrose was very explicit about Aquinas' explanation: come final jugdement, it's the time to reward accordingly, from our time on earth, both for the damned and the saints. I'd imagine Mother Theresa would have a greater reward than a great many souls.

If you remember that the final judgement is the day in which we are given our bodies back, the rewards in heaven Jesus speaks so often of in his parables can then be given to us. The nature of these rewards is a matter of speculation, but we can't believe exiting hell is one of them, hell is the eternal destiny of a person that died choosing themself over God.

The Limbo of the Fathers is the name given to the "place" or "state" where the righteous who died before Christ awaited His descent, after which the gates of Heaven were opened and they were admitted to the Beatific Vision of God. Therefore, the Limbo of the Fathers was only a temporary reality which no longer exists. In the Gospel of Saint Luke, we see the parable of Lazarus and the rich man. Lazarus goes to the "bosom of Abraham" which is understood to be the Limbo of the Fathers. There is however, another sense in which the Church speaks of Limbo. This refers to the Limbo of children. This is a "conditional" dogma of the faith. It is a necessary logical deduction from two dogmas, and I will explain the conditional part afterwards. Only those who die in mortal sin go to the Hell of the damned. Those who die in original sin only do not go to the Hell of the damned. However, only those who die in a state of grace are admitted to the beatific vision, which is supernatural and thus requires grace. Therefore we are left with the conclusion that those who die in the state of original sin only, e.g unbaptized infants, cannot go to the Hell of the damned because they did not die in mortal sin, but they cannot go to Heaven either and enjoy the beatific vision because they did not die in a state of grace. Therefore, the "Limbo of the Children", understood as a place of everlasting natural happiness, is a necessary dogmatic conclusion. However, here is the catch. It is a dogma that God can communicate sanctifying grace apart from the Sacraments if He so wills. Therefore, if God chooses to communicate sanctifying grace to all those who die in original sin only, then the Limbo of the Children does not exist because all its members would in fact be in Heaven enjoying the beatific vision. The Church expresses a "great hope" that God does in fact communicate such extra-sacramental grace to those who die in original sin only, and therefore some people believe (erroneously) that the Church has 'done away' with Limbo, in reference to the Limno of the children without making the qualifications I made. The Limbo of the Fathers as referenced in this video however is absolutely non-existent anymore because Christ has already died, but we still believe in its past existence. Hope that helps.

@delsydebothom3544
@delsydebothom3544 Жыл бұрын
@@tafazzi-on-discord "sheol" is, I think, a more all-inclusive term referring to the natural state of a human soul at death. This would be hell for everyone, good or bad, if humankind had never been raised to the blessed state to begin with, simply because no creature has a natural capacity for heaven. But, of course, if no one had sinned, hell wouldn't have been a punishment, any more than natural existence of any kind is a punishment. Regardless, both the damned and the blessed were in sheol before Christ. "Limbo" is just a handy term to describe the difference of where in sheol they were.

*"But if a wicked man turns away from all his sins which he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him;* for the righteousness which he has done he shall live. Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live? *But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity and does the same abominable things that the wicked man does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds which he has done shall be remembered;* for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, he shall die." (Ezekiel 18: 21-24) "Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, *every one according to his ways,* says the Lord God. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin." (Ezekiel 18:30) We are responsible for the actions we make as individuals, we don't take credit or "merits" for what others do because of the good we make, or take punishments for what others do because of their own actions. I think there are priests teaching this kind of "domino effect" accountability, but that's not biblical. The only thing inherited naturally by human race is the original sin, but even Adam and Eve are not judged for all the original sins inherited by all people because of their initial sin. In fact the Church teaches that Adam and Eve were taken into heaven by Christ when He descended into the underworld. Quoted from a reference quoted in the Catechism No.635 "...He has gone to search for Adam, our first father, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow Adam in his bonds and Eve, captive with him..."

I'm sorry Father, but Jesus mentions that Abraham has been in heaven when He tells us the story of Lazarus (Luke 16) so clearly Jesus does not descend to hell to save the patriarchs. Also during the Transfiguraton, even before Jesus death Moses and Elijah were shown with Him, which was mpossible if they were assigned to a section in hell. Then the thing about the lasting effects of sins which will be judged in the second coming of Christ is against the divinity of God because God know things before they happen, there is no need to such waiting . The Last Judgment only confirms the previous judgment and only be done on those who are still living when Jesus comes for the second time. But it is true that Jesus descended into purgatory to save souls who needed His grace badly.

Jesus died, was buried and only raised on the THIRD DAY as attested to by Jesus & his apostles. ( Matt 20:19) Greek philosophy has distorted much of Christian beliefs!
