The access media is turning on Disney's Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel... a year after it shut down. Yes, now they're claiming they ALWAYS knew it was going to fail. It almost sounds like now that the Disney checks stopped coming, they're cool with sounding like those nasty negative KZfaqrs.

This! At this point, I'm convinced that channels like Clownfish are pulling more views and viewers than ANY main-stream media channels. I have little interest in "traditional" media. While many channels on KZfaq DO lean one way or the other politically, there are channels that have integrity. Something that main-stream media has lost as badly as say, Kotaku.

Paris is much cheaper than disney world. Paris in high season is 3k but you can visit for much less in the winter, spring, and fall. I had a friend go to disney world and I went to Paris and we both spent the same amount. She could stay for only three days and only had hotel and airfare. The few who could fit into the "actively supporting" camp are the execs and lazybones who like getting paid for pumping out crap with a lower quality than the AI that could replace them, and that first category are acting in such a way to raise suspicions of corporate sabotage, circling right back around to the "contractually obligated" camp.

I remember when the Star Cruise came out it was obvious it was going to fail because of what seemed like joy from the people that made it that nothing from Star Wars and Empire Strikes back was going to be in it. There was no Vader, stormtroopers, R2D2 or anything from the original 3 movies and Disney was practically cheering about it. And those characters were what the public knew. Instead it was a bunch of people with blue makeup on their faces pretending to be aliens. I just cannot see how this could have been successful.

The Sequels are largely to blame for the complete decline of the Star Wars brand overall, especially 2017's Last Jedi. But for some reason, many of them still try desperately to avoid that fact. Still pushing this whole ''well they weren't as bad as the Prequels'' despite the fact regardless of the reception the Prequels got at the time, even those films didn't damage the brand as badly as these movies have. Airplane tickets are only cheap if you pay for the Wanna Get Away tickets, depending on which company you decide to fly with. While I agree with you that there is some riffraff we should price out in nice places, part of the problem (especially on airlines) is that it has become more accessible over time, so it's not treated like a luxury by the general public as it was back in the earlier years. Back when flying was "new and exciting," people dressed like they were going to church for it. Back when owning a television set in your home was the "new and exciting" thing, too, the whole family gathered around to watch the annual Christmas specials that only aired once in December, making it a grand occasion. The world and the technology have changed over time. Price is one part, yes, but the other is familiarity.

Jenny Nicholson (a former Disney tour guide) just released an outstanding deep dive video covering every aspect of the Galactic Starcruiser hotel, including why it failed. It's a little over four hours long, so it needs to be viewed in multiple sessions, but it's worth watching if you're curious why the hotel failed.

I mean there are mystery events that go for a weekend that people do enjoy. The price is only a problem because it didn't offer enough value. If it was fun and had good content people would pay.

The reason why they failed is it was a mashup of science fiction shows and movies. Even the font was a Battle star Galactica ripoff. Universal should sue Disney, bc universal owns the rights to Battle Star Galactica. Unless Disney paid them for the right to use the font. The only science fiction property not used, was Star Wars. Bc we all know Disney star Wars is not! Star Wars.

the LARP thing was interesting but a lot of people i know also agreed it should of been a limited time thing as i feel for the staff that need to run the same script 24/7 it gets old but Disney is stubborn

Galaxy's edge having to 'make up your own story' isn't just a problem for the non creative. For those of us who like to create, it'd also be an issue. I made up my own 'Star Wars park' years ago and I'm sure even those who've not bothered doing that would also be spending their time thinking how they could make it so much better. I completely agree re the 'Starcruiser' as someone with an invisible but debilitating disability being picked to 'LARP' by cast would be a nightmare. I do not want to have to out myself as already in an awful lot of pain (I'm allergic to the meds that work for me) just getting around the place & doing normal park stuff, to not have to play act with a cast member. I freely talk about being in agony online, because I'm not physically around complete strangers! -- If I feel like talking to an in character cast member, then I'd do that but it has to be me approaching them to 'play'.

Its funny after the Media, andother KZfaqrs said how great Disney was doing with Star Wars, which lead to them losing views and impact and they were okay with that because that sweet Disney wampum they got all the while saying you two, Doomcock and others were haters. But now they are saying that they knew Disnet Star Wars sucked all along, why well I think the wampum is slowing down or stopped. So now they need those fans they told to F-off, but those same fans see though thier fake platitudes as they out themselves as Disney paid actors when they turned on them.

Disney has been trying to do things on the cheap for years. They are hoping that the brand will just carry them. They've turned into a scam with long lines, even when using their Genie system. I dont understand why anyone would plan a trip to Disney unless they were a local, and even then.

For the cost of the Galactic Starcruiser, they could have made one or even more regular hotels with a Star Wars theme to them. Tatooine, Cloud City, Naboo. Heck if you really needed to, you could have made one Maz Kanata's place, that looked so close to Tatooine, anyway. They would have been hugely successful. If it's just a fun skin on a regular hotel, much like the other themed hotels they have, you don't have all the problems of expense, not really getting the events, forcing people to LARP and spend a whole 2 days doing nothing else, all of which brought about the demise of the Starcruiser.

Besides the cost, it was always going to be an issue that it was set between films 8 and 9. At the time they started planning, the 9th film wasn't out yet... but it was going to be by the time the hotel was slated to open. That's doubly stupid, as they didn't yet know what film 9's story would be or how it would be received; and as it would be awkward to have costumers imagine themselves into an in between part of the story. The whole thing was just poorly planned.

The last time I went to Disneyland Galaxy’s Edge had just opened. I found it to be nice but it lacked a connection to me and the Star Wars of my youth. It was a sterilized Star Wars. Some of the displays were very nice but I didn’t feel the vibe I was hoping for when I heard they were going to build it. I live close but haven’t been to the park since then. We tend to do the Harry Potter thing. There’s so much to see at that park and neat hidden gems. You feel immersed in that world as opposed to Galaxys Edge.

See, Disney missed a HUGE!! opportunity with the Galactic Star Cruiser. They could've had a Star Wars themed hotel featuring ALL the movies and spin offs, with two options. A, the option of having guests just enjoy a Star Wars themed hotel and B, have the special bonus option for people who want to sign up to go all out and be part of the adventure. Hell, I'm not even that big of a Star Wars fan and I think either option would be really cool.

I was a Star Wars "Buffet" fan (pick and choose my own Canon), and a Disney fan. That being said, I have always thought the Disney Hotels were way too expensive, and wasn't a Star Wars fan enough to want to go on a "hotel experience". Then, to find out from reviewers, that you had to pay "extra" in order to have the "good food", and whatever... No, thanks.
