Some key things: is concentration percentages can change in ANY formula shift, the order in which the ingredients are added to the formula can change with ANY formula shift depending on when that ingredient is supposed to be added, and any temperature changes needed to add into the mix. Think about baking, if you dump ALL the ingredients into one bowl vs mixing dry and wet ingredients separately you can change the final product dramatically. So…it might theoretically be the “same” formula it just might perform differently. Which you experienced. I tried the new one after your first post and my hair wasn’t happy with it, and my hair used to love the gel. Both of your end results are great though.

Hi Courtney, I tried the Biolage Hydra Source Conditioning bond on my fine,coarse gray hair. I was so disappointed. Nothing conditioning about it. Gritty and felt like I had crisco in my hair even when I thoroughly rinsed it. I recently purchased and am using the new Not Your Mother`s Bond Building Shampoo and Conditioner. I love the results and a whole lot cheaper for this senior. Maybe you could do a one day wash day with these new products. Thanks for all your comparisons. I enjoy your videos.

I saw another creator here using the original formula in some older content and it was runny in her videos too, so I don't think it changed texture due to it going bad

The blue bottle was better for sure plus great volume, however you still had great shine with both.

That is interesting, I definitely seems like the two gels did perform differently and the blue bad more hold. I was going to purchase it but I think I will hold off as I want one with more hold.

I came back to your channel to see how much of the gel you used, because I got NO crunch with the red top gel. Thanks for the answer! I've used the red top gel several times, and get very soft hold from it. It works best for me if I use the VERB foaming gel first. This results in less frizz, better hold, and very soft hair.

I read others complaining about the difference in the new gel on the reviews when I started to buy some of the Biolage. I have to use two brands. i like the Virtue Full shampoo and Full conditioner, then just a spray or 2 of their leave in conditioner and Jessicurl spiralicious gel. On day 2, I use the Jessicurl spray gel to refresh (forgot what it is called).

You are amazing! Thanks for your in depth science-like approach to wavy hair. I'm a big biolage fan, so this is really great content. I wonder if adding a little bit of something with a harder hold would elevate it back to blue-top day? Like a small dollop of rock hard mixed in? or would you do completely separate applications of product to try "layering" products as you've mentioned before? I love that you felt like your hair was touchable though- that's worth a lot also in great hair! 🙂

You find those formulas if you look up matrix gel they definitely do list the pink one more thing is though it looks like it has a little bit different shade of blue for the lid I don’t know if that means anything it’s more of a light blue instead of a dark blue on websites I have a feeling because one is a three and one is it too you may think that like they didn’t change the whole but I feel like they did cause one it’s holding up better with the old version in your hair into different levels normally mean different levels of hold

Oooh super interesting!!! Question: have you heard of hairburst before? I am curious to know your thoughts on the ingredients. They claim to be naturally derived, but there seem to be a lot of fillers if that makes sense. Maybe they are needed as stabilizers or something. Anywhos... maybe I am more curious to know if there would be a lot of buildup in your opinion!!!

But didn't the original gel say Blue Agave styling gel and the pink one just says All Purpose styling gel? Wouldn't that in itself be a difference? Or am I wrong on that? Seems like 2 different types of gel to me unless I'm missing something here. 🤔

The pink top did have the blue agave ingredient in it as well. I don’t know why they took the name out when they updated the packaging. But the pink top does have that ingredient.

Honestly I have never gotten a cast with Biolage gel. They also tend to change their formulations slightly once in awhile. It has always been a issue that I have had with that brand. I can’t even tell you how many times the conditioning balm has changed. I actually ended up switching to the Generic version that they carry at Sally’s because it was an older formula and I liked it better. I remember my old gelee from them being super liquidy when I bought it but that was many years ago. I bet that they changed it.

I have been using my blue top bottle sparingly because I heard that the pink one was not the same. I really like the results that I get from this gel and was sad to hear that it had changed. 😢

Since I saw this video I looked at the drugstore gels and it’s true they all have little bubbles in them. But I’m curious why that’s not a good thing? What about those gels make them bad for the hair compared to the higher end gels?

😆 I just bought a bottle & the package is totally different than the 2 you have. It has like a light blue top and it's not a thin consistency like the dark blue top & a level 3 hold. It does have a label that states same great formula. It actually has a label on it that states "blue agave glee" Does the 2 you have have that?

Oh! Sorry one more thing. I like to have uv protection as well as heat protection but a lot of products for this are leave in conditioners. Using these less to get better hold but do you have recommendations for uv/heat protection products for dry or wet hair?

What's your favourite one-and-done styler? I'm trying to find one that works for me - I've tried kinky curly curling custard, which didn't have anywhere near enough hold for me (even without a leave in conditioner), and innersense I create curl memory, which my hair just absolutely hated (plus it's not vegan :/). I currently have Jessicurl spiralicious on order but I'm looking for more options :')
