Season 3 was definitely the most "cramped" season, per se. The writers weren't entirely sure if they were getting renewed for another season, so they tried to make the S3 finale double as an open-ended finale for the series entire. Fortunately, we got SIX more seasons after this!

It was *crazy* how negatively the alicorn change was handled by the fandom at the time. But when you consider that only three out of nine seasons were spent as a unicorn, it's pretty silly in retrospect.

Yeah, this was originally when the show would've ended. It's crazy how much it lasted three times more than its intended seasons while getting a theatrical movie, a comic series, and a spinoff franchise.

A True True Friend always gives me chills when I listen to it. It's so grand and emotional.

The new era is starting

*“Why does this feel like the ending?” Because it was literally was supposed to be the season finale until MLP got more funds to make more seasons 😭*

When writing Twilight's character, the goal was always to have her take over as princess, however it's important to remember that this episode was originally supposed to be the last one in the series. That's why Season 3 was shorter. The show was brought back for a 4th season because of the fans and the rest of the show is Twilight gradually becoming growing in her role as princess. It's a great arc and I know you're going to enjoy it every step of the way!

I literally remember waiting hours for this episode to release when I was little, reloading the page on my iPad every second. I used to always end up crying during this finale, I dont know if it’s because I remember it when I was little or if it’s just a really good episode.

To this day, Even though some people like "Magical Mystery Cure" sadly a large sum of the mlp fandom hated the episode mainly because they thought Twilight should've never been made an Alicorn because Twilight becoming an Alicorn was just another way for Hasbro to say "Buy our toys" and of course some people also thought it was a little too early for her to become an Alicorn like Twilight would've needed 1 or 2 more seasons worth of development. But I personally was proud of what Twilight had accomplished! In fact this particular season finale was actually meant to be the end of Twilight's arc as Celestia's student in the series. Although after season 3 the series started to focus more on not just Twilight but the entire Main cast of characters. And one of the many things I loved about this episode was the songs! To this day songs like "What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me" and "True, True Friend" are considered to be fan favorite songs!!!

From one to another, another to one, a mark of ones destiny, singled out alone, fullfilled. From all of us together, together we are friends, with the marks of our destinies made one, there is magic without end.

Season 4 has got to my favorite. Things really start picking up. You can tell the show becomes a bit less child orianted. As a long time fan, the show lowkey becomes easier to watch.

God Magical Mystery Cure is so nostalgic

Btw just a reminder. Rainbow rocks is supposed to take place after Season 4 finale just due to a single line by Spike in the movie. If you don't care about the one or two lines that say something about Twilight, then Rainbow rocks can be watched right after EQG. That said chronologically Rainbow Rocks is after Season 4 finale and Friendahip games is after Season 5 finale. Legend of Everfree can be watched pretty much at any point after Season 5 Also interesting note about Apple Jack's cutie mark. It is explained a bit.more later in a later episode. Also Season 3 finale was supposed to be the end of the series but due to fan outcry the series continued

I loved this finale. When i saw it live as a kid I was screaming so much in joy and full on crying. I was so hyped XD Was not expecting the backlash from the fandom in response to the change.

Congrats on finishing season 3! Even though this probably should have been a two parter (even some people who worked on the episode thought it should have been a two parter), I'll always really love this one. It's too fun and the songs are too good! It's also been so fun to see people like you enjoy this show for the first time. I'll try to comment more often!

The reason why that finale felt like the end of the show is because it was *supposed* to be the end, that was gonna be the end but the show was so popular that it got greenlit for another season And oh, btw Twilight unlocked her wings by finishing the spell, (teleporting wherever she was 💀) and then Celestia gave them to her they reference the event in season 7 " she got her wings after finishing the spell " hope that helps! In my opinion, the show just keeps going up from here. For some people the reception is mixed. But all of the world building and crap coming up is worth everything. Strap in! Some people were mad that twilight became a princess, and I do not understand it. It was pretty obvious from the get go that she was destined for something more. She’s literally the student of the princess. Happy for her. Can’t wait to continue!

This episode was originally planned to be the *series* finale, hence the sense of 'finality' that may be present in this episode (ofc, before the show's popularity got a season 4 greenlit) It's also why this season was half the length (or at least, it follows the same pattern as Transformers: Prime, which aired at the same time)

Now, we are gonna have a field day from now on. What comes after this (mostly after season 5) this will start to hit harder then a nice cold drink on a hot day.

I started My Little Pony when season 5 was just coming out, and I was so lucky to binge it all before I saw any spoilers. This and another episode that I won't mention (but he mentioned looking forward to in this video ;) ) both took me COMPLETLEY off guard. I know a lotta people said it happened too quickly, but I never really felt that way. I do wish the episode was longer, maybe Twilight not fully understanding that the spell SHE casted caused the problems, or perhaps have them overcome an issue with their 'new' talents to realize that even if they change, they're still friends. I'm so happy you finally watched it!!!

9:28 the reason why this kind of feels like the show was ending. Was because the writers thought it was. If you notice season 3 is a half season, instead of the usual 26 episodes, they were only given 13. They had no idea whether or not they were going to be renewed for another season so they had to rush, Some of the big story beats. They wanted to do while at the same time. This particular episode was essentially expected by the writers to be their series finale. With a movie for a possible spin off that was going to take over. Fortunately, they were green lit for another season, (and more) but it was touch and go for a while.

Twilight got her wings this early for the same reason it was a half season. It was meant to be the end of the show! But it got renewed for 6 more seasons, so they had to work with it lol.

Because it may have been unclear. Twilight turned into an alicorn because she made/discovered new magic. Not just a new spell, but like, a new element of magic: 'Friendship' Magic. This does imply all other princesses before her have done the same, with each princess resembling a different form of magic. You can have fun trying to figure out what those are. I've heard a lot of different theories, but I think one of the upstanding ones is that each princess resembles a different aspect of love - but in a platonic sense since this is a kids' show.

This is where some of the fandom was divided, as a few people were not happy with Twilight getting essentially a major power boost, and some felt it was undeserved, while others questioned what exactly is the process behind becoming an alicorn?

One might argue that seasons 1 through 3 constitute one long arc - Twilight's journey from neigh-friendless shut-in to literal goddess of friendship. Without giving serious spoilers, I would argue that the next season's theme is "what do you do when there no longer are simple answers to your problems?".

I remember when this episode dropped. You could hear the rabid screeching of "the series is ruined!" like Vegeta's time-space warping rage-scream in DBZA. That reaction to any change in the status quo remained the norm from... certain quarters of the fandom, but most of us just kinda rolled with it since it was cool as hell. This is also where the opening/finale episodes start seeing a dramatic increase in specatacle.

season 4 is epic, and season 5 prepare your tears, hype

When the series first started, they planned it as just the first three seasons with this being the series finale. It was actually before the finale of season 2 that they got greenlit for additional seasons; but instead of changing plans, they decided to keep this as the end of Twilight's student arc and start a new arc instead. Definitely the best choice in my opinion, since Twilight becoming an alicorn and princess opened up a lot of options for future episode stories that they wouldn't have had with her still being a student. Along with everything else, this was also the first full musical episode. While they'd had songs before, it was usually only one or two in an episode. After this, there's several more musical episodes throughout the rest of the seasons and often those episodes have something important happen.

Her getting wings is the most iconic moment of the series. And than her coronation I watched it hundred times and it still feels the same

This was originally intended to be the series finale. 65 episodes is the magic number to hit syndication, so they were just going to end it there. Nobody expected the show to become as wildly popular as it did, so Hasbro kept it rolling for 9 whole seasons. You can see the show trying to grapple with figuring out the new status quo and what exactly the implications of Twilight being princess now are supposed to be since the show was supposed to have ended.

I watched this when it came out as a kid and man it got me hyped with that ending. I recorded it and everything to watch it on my own time.

Im sure hundreds had said it by now but the reason they made her an alicorn so early is because the writers were told this is the last season. Sure, it went against what the show creator wanted (Lauren had always planned on her becoming Celestia's replacement but never ever said she was going to become an alicorn to do so), but that's what happened lol

Since you were asking "why so early", it's because MLP was originally going to end at S3. This episode was going to be the series finale. But it became so successful that they decided to continue the show, and it went on for 6 more seasons! :)

I think Celestia always knew Twilight was destined to wield the Element of Magic, and could fix the spell that passed the test for her to be a princess. We saw in The Cutie Mark Chronicles that she was there to witness Twilight get her cutiemark, she even pointed it out to her, which is the same shape as the element of magic, plus it had five other stars, which are representative of the relationship she has with her friends and their connection to the elements. As for this feeling like a series finale, it was orginally intended to be. Lauren Faust, the person who developed this iteration of the show, stepped down halfway through season 2 (that's why the second half feels so different from the first), and some fans think it's because Hasbro wanted to take this directon where Twilight becomes a princess (which we all know is for marketing purposes) and Faust was against it. Regardless, no one expected the show to be renewed, or to last as long as it did. But since it did, they just had to roll with this and have Twilight grow into the role. I feel like it's sort of of parallel to how she had to grow into her destiny in terms of her cutiemark, despite having the right abilitie, she still had to make friends and leave her comfort zone, and the same's going to happen now that she has wings and a regal status. Also, now that she's an alicorn, you might notice that she's not built like the other unicorns anymore. Her horn is slightly longer, she stands a bit taller than the others, and much like Luna and Cadence her chest sort of looks different as well. If you did a side by side comparisson of this Twilight and unicorn Twilight the differences would be there. I've been waiting for this one. I'm glad you liked it, and the songs. They're all so great in this episode!

You become princess if you create new type(source) of magic. And she did. It's friendship. For example: Celestia was the first one to be able to control the sun without struggles, Luna was the first with moon, Cadence's past wasn't revealed but her power is love, so yeah.

She's just been there when that happened. But if you look closely, the magic that caused it came from Twilight's own heart. I think that it was part of that spell that Starswirl the Bearded couldn't finish, because he lacked the understanding of the Magic of Friendship. He tried to accomplish this goal (transform himself into an Alicorn), but without understanding of the Magic of Friendship (which is pretty much the same as Harmony, i.e. perfect balance of dark and light magic, and the powers of all the Elements), he couldn't finish the spell. Twilight, on the other hoof, managed to do that. And once she finished the spell, the Elements detected her level of development and started the transformation process. Of course becoming an Alicorn would be impossible with that body of a grown-up Unicorn that she had, so the Elements had to evaporate her entire physical body first and send her to the astral plane, where the spark that lighted up in her heart by the power of friendship could finish the transformation and materialize her in her new Alicorn body. 13:06 Derpy in the background :> 13:21 It would still be wise to watch the movie first, since it came out in between season 3 finale and season 4 premiere, and it answers some of the questions that you, like many of us a couple of years ago, were asking ourselves.
