Fun fact: they got a bunch of real NASCAR drivers to voice characters: most notably, Richard Petty (the “King” of NASCAR) voices The King, and Dale Earnhardt Jr voices Junior (the one who says “I hope Lightning’s okay” on TV).

@@strat458796 They also got these guys, maybe more that I missed: -Chase Elliot (current driver) -Ryan Blaney (current driver) -Daniel Suarez (current driver) -Bubba Wallace (current driver) -Richard Petty and his nephew Kyle Petty (both retired drivers who also happen to play uncle/nephew) -Howard "Humpy" Wheeler (track owner) -Ray Evernham (former crew chief) Unfortunately the rest of the old drivers in the film (Wendell Scott, Smokey Yunick, and Louise Smith) had passed on long before this film began production. Louise Smith died about two months before Cars 1 came out (April 2006), Smokey Yunick died in 2001, and Wendell Scott didn't even live to see Pixar exist at all (1990). EDIT: I have learned that Pixar was founded in 1986, my bad

Fun fact for adults, when Mack is transporting McQueen from the first race to CA, as he passes the truck stop he wants to stop at, the billboard states “All convertible waitresses” meaning it’s full or “topless” waitresses

My son just turned 16 on Sunday. His first sentence was right after watching the movie on dvd. His daycare teacher taught the children simple sign language because most of them were not speaking yet. As the credits were rolling, he turned to me, thought for a couple seconds, and then did the sign for "more" and said "cars". It took me a second to realize he was saying "more cars". So, we watched it again. He loved watching it and we would play it on his portable dvd player on long road trips. This movie will always be remembered by me because of that one moment.

I noticed that also, when McQueen is in California and the race is starting, the network talks about how a bunch of businesses around the state are closed for the race. Guess what, one of the clips during this highlight shows a sign of a closed area. This sign points to none other than the town of Emeryville, the location of the Pixar HQ.

Fun fact: Hudson never made a V8. Their entire racing heritage was built using a only Inline 6 engines! That’s an impressive feat on its own.

Inline 6 is superior in many ways. And a V12 gets those same benefits too because they're basically 2 inline 6 engines joined at the crank. The primary and secondary forces cancel each other out. They don't need counterbalance and run really smooth. More modern inline 6 engines are popular with tuners for this reason and many others. They're long and narrow which is good for cramming big turbos in the engine bay. There's only one cylinder head which makes rebuilds more simple. I'm a big fan of inline 6 engines. Like the Nissan RB, Toyota 1JZ/2JZ, and I think my favourite is the Ford Barra.

If you want to know about *The Cozy Cone Motel* yeah it's like a clever little twist the motels made out of caution cones which of course cars usually try to avoid but now they're going to sleep in them which I have to admit is pretty funny

Actually the first race in Cars is meant to be the last race of the cup, the one that defines the winners of the whole season. Its not Lightnings first race they call him "rookie" because its his first season. The yellow stripe thing on a racer's first race is true but i dont think that applies here. Nice vid tho

A driver can run up to I think 7 races in a season and still be considered a rookie the next season. But must run the yellow stripe until their official sophomore season.

Another thing: You can actually see the Pizza Planet truck near the end of Cars. Right about when the jets are flying over for the final piston cup race, and the camera goes around the stadium, there will be Darrel Cartip and Bob Cutlass (the announcers) talking in the background, and behind them, you can see the Pizza Planet Truck.

Also, the reason why Doc died is because Paul Newman died. PIXAR didn't (I guess) want to put a new voice actor for Doc, so they decided to remove Doc on the account that Paul Newman passed.

There is also a detail: when McQuenn crosses the railway tracks and almost collides with a train, the inscription A113 can be seen on the body of the train. This inscription appeared in every pixar cartoon, for example wall-e.

Actually, no, not really. One of the reasons Pixar was able to put out such high quality and high fidelity animation was because they had an entire research and development department whose sole job was to design and program the tools that the animators needed - they were literally making it up as they went.

At 9:17 you can see McQueen buying tires in Luigi's shop. The three variants of white tires are named like real colors, but in italian: "latte" in english is milk, "bianco" Is white and "crema" is cream. Also, the Fettucini name Is a referente to fettucine, an italian kind of pasta. (I noticed them because i'm italian).

The main purpose of curb feelers was to protect your fancy hubcaps from getting banged up on the curb. A lot of cars back then didn't even have a passenger side mirror, so it was especially difficult to tell how far from the curb you are. I put a set on my Lincoln and they're life savers!

0:30 "This is Lightning's first Piston Cup race". The race at the Motor Speedway of The South was meant to be the last of the series, with Lighting tied for the lead of the championship heading into the event. This was not Lightning's first race.
