I actually appreciate how much time they spend setting everything up with the troubled marriage, him not wearing shoes and Ellis being a douchebag. The film wouldn't be hailed as a classic without the script featuring so many immaculate payoffs.

An Amazing Christmas film! I always say, it isn't Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from the Nakatomi Plaza!

The scene where John and Hans are talking to each other is shot at what is called a Dutch angle. It shows that John don’t trust Hans.

There are 5 movies. Die Hard 2 is also a Christmas movie. And the last one has their Daughter Lucy dating a man who helps John. Die Hard 3 has Hans' brother as the bad guy. 👱‍♀👱‍♀👗👗👠👠💓💓

"Welcome to the party, pal!" It isn't Christmas in my house until Hans Gruber is THROWN out of the Nakatomi Building. 😎 🎄 Fun Fact: Alan Rickman nearly passed up the role of Hans Gruber, which ended up being his first film role. He had only arrived in Hollywood two days earlier and was appalled by the idea of his first role being the villain in an action film. To a degree, Rickman was right to be concerned considering his performance as Hans Gruber was so hailed that the actor had to struggle being typecast as a player of villains for much of his career. First Face-Off Fact: The scene in which Gruber and McClane meet fir the first time was inserted into the script after Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) was found to be proficient at mimicking American accents. The filmmakers had been looking for a way to have the two characters meet prior to the climax and capitalized on Rickman's talent. Making Lemonade Fact: The scene where McClane falls down a shaft was a mistake by the stuntman, who was supposed to grab the first vent, as it originally was planned. He slipped and continued to fall, but the shot was used anyway; it was edited together with one where McClane grabs the next vent down as he falls.

"I'm your white knight." That was Ellis attempting to sell himself as the man who can get Hans anything he wants. In American fairy tales, the "white knight" was a medieval knight in gleaming armor who came in and rescued the princess. Incidentally, as slimy as Ellis was, and as much as he was a real jerk of the world, he was more than a one-note villain. He never gave up Holly, and said that he had invited John there rather than she. He took all the attention onto himself. Again, he was a complete ass, but there was more to him than that. 'Eighties movies were good for that, for giving characters some depth, even in "just" action movies.

You had an individual pointing and firing a machine gun in the direction of civilians. They have every right and even a duty to shoot him. The real problem is that they never accepted or used John McClain as a friendly or an asset, which is why they assumed the individual on the roof is a terrorist. If they had interacted with him, communicated with him as a friendly, then they might have known what was going on, and known he was a friendly.

Two things that are kind of ironic when you think back. One of them is John telling the police chief "who gives a shit about glass" because later on it becomes an issue for John. The other is when the news anchor gets the country wrong when the author it talking about the "Helsinki" syndrome. Even though he was wrong about where Helsinki was when he said Sweden, the actual syndrome that author is referring to is called "Stockholm syndrome", so the anchor is kind of right about where the syndrome originates from.
@Lirtzie
@Lirtzie Жыл бұрын
That is so true with the glass! Yeah I guessed it was that syndrome they meant, but it was so funny hearing him say Helsinki syndrome and then him being so confident saying as in Helsinki, Sweden 😂

Flying from NYC to California, "John McClane" finds this song: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rb94n8h3q87Qdp8.html 5:05 This exchange shows that John and Argyle are "working class guys." 6:03 "Bill Clay has left the building...long ago." 6:53 Ellis doesn't DRINK Coke. John McClane isn't 'a muscular Rambo-type," takes damage, has moments of fear/doubt/introspection, and is "dead man walking" by the final quarter of the movie. Is it any wonder that audiences saw themselves in him? For his first Hollywood movie, Alan Rickman's "Hans Gruber" is a cool, ruthless, intelligent, 'exceptional thief."

Of the remaining movies in the Die Hard franchise, I believe that #4, Live Free or Die Hard is the best by far. FWIW, all of my greats were born in Sweden but all that survived by my generation was Julotta and Lutefisk, and nobody mourned when the latter was abandoned.

Looking forward to this one. There are four sequels, none of which are bad, but 1 and 3 are the best in the series (same director). Unfortunately Bruce Willis had to retire from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia this year or last year, resulting in trouble being able to think/speak. Sucks, always loved his movie. Also, this is Alan Rickman's (Hans Gruber) first movie. He was 40. Never too late to start! Merry Christmas, cheers!

1. Karl/Alexander Godunov(RIP) also played in "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and "Witness" with non Indiana/Solo Harrison Ford. He had a very interesting story. 2. Robinson/Paul Gleason(RIP) seems to always play buttheads. I.e. "Trading Places" and "The Breakfast Club". 3. Another fun Willis movie that have similar events is "The Last Boy Scout". They drop more F-bombs that you can shake a stick at. Including a little girl. 4. He better have a place to crash.😍😘😋 5. The dead body that fell was full of bullets Dumbass🙄🤬 6. YES, a Christmas movie. It takes place at a Christmas party. 7. Missing you Bruce.😪

The Detective starring Frank Sinatra was also based on a novel written by the author of the Die Hard novel. Sinatra played the same character Bruce Willis does here (they may have changed the name, can't recall). Anyway, Fox Studios was still contractually obligated to Sinatra, and were actually and officially required to offer him Die Hard -- reprising his role from The Detective. Sinatra was an old man by then and was always gonna turn it down. He did, and the rest is history.
