From the way it played out, it’s clear that it isn’t the first time Logan’s hit Roman. That also explains why, more than any other sibling, Roman seems particularly afraid of Logan and seems to physically shrink when Logan’s shouting (IE the board meeting when Kendall tried to take over, when Logan finds out about Pierce etc). It’s one of those things that just makes sense thanks to Kieran Culkin’s performance.

Even as a defeated lapdog to Logan, Kendall doesn't hesitate to stand up to his father when he hits Roman. One small simple scene like that tells us SO much about how they were as children. Also a fun little note is that while the slap itself was scripted, Ken's reactions was improvised by Jeremy Strong.

I love watch Jesse talk about the show at the end because he's so smart and such a massive reader that it makes the episodes even juicier. This was such an intense episode and as Jesse said, a great look at how anger moves in this family. I felt bad for Roman because he seems to be the literal punching bag. Kendall and Shiv's relationship also fascinates me because they're certainly Logan's most competent kids but they're their own worst enemy. I think they also directly recognize each other as their competition.
@himurahaibara1459
@himurahaibara1459 11 ай бұрын
Agree. Seems like the actual competition is between Ken and Shiv, the two kids who put so much effort to fight for the top job, meanwhile Roman just does things to please his dad, he's the one who has deep seated fear of Logan probably because Logan used to be physically abusive towards him. Ken and Shiv are avle to show resistance towards Logan even though it's often failed. I think he has high standard for Kendall since he sees him as the oldest and undermines Shiv because she's too young according to him. Connor was more of an emotional support for his three younger siblings especially when they were little kids.
@Sig509

We could observe here one of many cases how impatient Shiv is. Corporate work is not all glamour, and even the top person has to have basic understanding of audits, and various parameters. This stuff was beneath her. That's the advantage of Kendall, he had years of real corporate experience and understands the business metrics. Of course Kendall has many other faults. As I once said, you would got a decent CEO by combining these three klids into one (Roman has a strong business sense, but is all messed up)

I might be the only person out there to think this but the "you can fuck whoever you want as long as they're a stranger" rule just doesn't sound that unfair to me? I also find it interesting that people who thought she was in the wrong tend to gloss over her apology just bc she's saying she got jealous. My understanding in that instance is that she got jealous bc it was happening right under her nose (hence the rules...), same as when Nate was putting his grubby hands on the small of her back in front of Tom

Quoting Season 1 Episode 8. Tom: Well, Shiv gave me a hall pass. 'CoZ we are adults. Apparently. I'm gonna blow my load multiple times. Greg: Wow. And so Shiv has the same arrangement? She's an adult too.. Tom: What? No, no. (Pauses) well, yeah, sure. I mean, I don't know, Greg. It's not a competition. x-x- Tom married Shiv for the money, not for love. The insecurity he has is Shiv falling for someone else robbing his chance of climbing the ladder.

@@smichelle65 Okay give one where he wasn't being his manipulative self, like he was in the hospital in S1E2. Already shared his thoughts on cheating (he can do it, but she can't). In s1e8, he's already cheated on Shiv with Tabitha but hasn't come clean about it still. And if he loved her, he would have been happy when Logan offered Shiv the CEO position, but he's not. There are obviously more as the series progresses.

@@kvm6 "Okay give one where he wasn't being his manipulative self," Sure -- the night before their wedding, when he told her they didn't have to go through with it if she really didn't want to. Also, in s1e8, he called her beforehand and asked what was okay as far as a bachelor party hall pass. And he was very hurt when Shiv told him she'd "had a little number" with Nate, then dropped the "open marriage" bomb on their wedding night. As for Shiv being offered CEO over Tom, yeah he was very disappointed and maybe envious, but it's possible to be envious of someone and still love them; Tom in fact swallowed his disappointment and supported Shiv as prospective CEO because he loved her, and saw her victory as "their" victory (as opposed to Shiv, who saw her victory as -- her victory)

@@smichelle65 Completely ignored what I wrote out in two comments. My original comment was already about him being the one that does the cheating and not Shiv. He even signs the f-ing Pre-nup. I can't see him as anything but a opportunist both in his love life and his office life. You don't see him that's fine, but don't ignore what he's said are his thoughts. He's the most truthful when he's with Greg.

@@kvm6 Where do you get the idea Tom thinks it's ok for him to cheat but not Shiv?! When Greg asked Tom if Shiv had the same arrangement, he said no because he was flustered; he wasn't about to admit to Greg that Shiv can and probably will cheat on him with impunity (which she has, by the way -- or did you block out the car scene with her and Nate a whole (checks) one episode before s1e8?
