@@patrickatlan862 , yeah. That Argentina team was trash compared to the ones that Messi plays in. Maradona made them champions because his talent and self belief are unrivalled. I never saw Pele play, but I've watched the careers of Maradona, Ronaldo Nazario, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The last three are very very special, but Maradona is just out of this world!

Most younger folk don't know that Maradona was a midfielder. He would outscore everyone if he played as a forward. Imagine how many goals he would have scored if he played in top sides all the time as a centre forward (Especially in this era, he would run riot every time he went on the field. Opposition players would not only suffer from him on the field, but from lack of sleep the night before the match)

Nenhum jogador da atualidade experimentou nada nem parecido com a hostilidade praticada dentro de campo naquela época. Por isso, comparações são bem difíceis porque jogar hoje comparado com aquela selvageria toda é sair da água para o vinho. É por isso que os grandes jogadores dos anos 80 são tão queridos e respeitados. O bagulho era doido, a chapa esquentava mil graus.

@@martinkimathi993 imagine if there was. too bad it wont give the same feeling. its not the 80s. not the time in which u have to adjust the cam quality. not the time when defenders could kill you. not the time when var didnt exist. not the time when the pitches where terrible. if maradona played today he would score 500+ goals and have a better career. plus if he played for a better team he would have 200+ assists.

Lo que me sorprendía de este tío era su explosión/potencia en el dribbling y la lucidez mental que conservaba en el tramo final de cada jugada, soportando semejante desgaste físico (forcejeos, patadas, marca personal y en zona). Técnicamente, no hay dudas, fué el mejor de todos. De haber sido más profesional los demás estarían a años luz. Pd: tuve la oportunidad de de asistir a un encuentro del Sevilla y era obsceno ver que con apenas levantar el pie ponía el balón dónde se le ocurriera

El otro día estaba viendo un partido random de Maradona jugando para Boca en 1996 y se estaban comiendo un baile ante Racing y en un momento mete una asistencia desde el medio campo (medio campo) y le cae al pie del delantero que sólo necesitó meterla, además fue una pelota _bombeada_ , es decir, un disparo con efecto a colocar, o sea, ese pie no lo ha tenido nadie antes ni después, increíble.

Messi played on perfect pitches with world class players in a two team league. He played in a more offensive role than Maradona. If they tackled Messi it was freekick, penalty or yellow or red. Maradona was assaulted on the field and they just let the play continue but he dominated anyway. Barcelona won even before Messi, Napoli didn't win until Maradona arrived. The italian league was the best league by far in the 80's. A lot of teams competed for the title. Messi played with world class players like Iniesta, Xavi etc. Maradona didn't play with world class players like Matthäus, Gullit, Van Basten, Platini etc. He played AGAINST THEM with his average teammates. And as far as the biggest tournaments. Only the champions was qualified to participate. Not 1-4 placed teams. So he only had 2 chances in serie A. Messi had the chance to win every year with Barcelona. But it's actually good Maradona played in the 80's, because if he played in a world class team in this era it wouldn't be fun to watch. He would be totally unstoppable. And remember, no penalty goal in '86. The tackles he received would have been a lot of freekicks, penalties and yellow and red cards in today's game. I can go on forever... No doubt in my mind, Maradona is the greatest player of all time.

If any player could do 10% of this in their whole life they would be one of the greatest. To do ALL of this in one tournament makes Maradona THE greatest. Courage, vision, imagination, control, power, skill, determination, reaction, passion, leadership all on another level. His display in 1986 was greatest sporting event of all time.

Cuando veo a Maradona en el Barcelona, siento que tiene mucho más velocidad y aceleración que sus días en el Napoli y por supuesto que en el mundial del 86. Creo que Diego tuvo desarrollar mayor corpulencia luego de su estadía en el Barcelona para poder soportar el juego tan físico y violento que tenían sobre el. Un verdadero genio.

I bow in front of Leo Messi and what he accomplished today in Qatar. Just perfect! It was pure art and leadership and it made me emotional But Diego was still Don Diego. You hat to see him to believe it. He played when football was at it's worse in term of brutally. Defenders butchered him with no protection from anyone! It was the way it was...The fields he played in were patotoes fields at best....I mean you cannot compare the 2 really. Messi is protected, best training centers, best doctors, the game is made safer for stars....unlike 40 yrs ago. Taking nothing away from the greatness that is Messi, he deserves the cup and I cried for him.

Keep in mind that in those days, defenders could hack you to pieces and never get yellow carded let alone sent off. You literally had to attempt to cripple someone to be dismissed. Maradona made idiots of the best defenders to have ever played the game all while they tried to break him!

Encima los compañeros se perdieron unos cuantos goles servidos! Qué maravilla! Y en el 90 nos afanaron, en el 94 le cortaron las piernas....No era tolerable para la FIFA .Diego los peleaba . Se merecía el triplete de mundiales, pero el genio se drogaba; cómo si eso importara para el espectáculo!!.....era un mal ejemplo. Muchos de los genios, artistas, creadores, se drogaron y drogarán. Dicen que la cocaína es nefasta para los deportistas, menos mal!!! Para colmo, en el control antidoping, le detectan efedrina, nada que ver!!

La diferencia fue que Maradona lo hizo en los partidos mas cruciales, y contra adversarios mas fuerte y de mas leyenda, que ganaron el Mundial en su tiempo: Contra Uruguay, Inglaterra, y Alemania Federal. Mientras mas fuerte el adversario mas se agrandaba la calidad de Maradona. Eso es mente y corazon de Campeon!!!!

I watches 2 matches live in the 86' World Cup that Diego played: Against England and against West Germany. When I watched Diego here, he gave a strong vibe, that sooner or later he would do something great, and in both matches he did. Ending in giving Argentina the World Cup. I've never felt that confidence in any other player, but an uncertainness. He's the kind of player that inspired such excitement, that you just didn't know what he would do next. That was the thrilling element of surprize, that kept you interested. When he stopped playing, a great part of football went with him. It wasn't quite the same! Especially what he did in those games against: Uruguay, England, and Belgium, it was something you would do in a dream, as growing up wanting to be some special footballer. And he actually exceeded my expectations. He was the only player to do this. It would be extremely hard to see this kind of level again, especially at the highest level: The World Cup!!!!

Good video, what is not said as much because of his unmatched talent is how tuff and not afraid to get stuck in he was, and he was a hard man by account's from players, the real football people know he is greatest, it is nothing against other top players but for me the tapes don't lie, Maradona showed how the game could and should be played, and in fairness he was the greatest like him or not. He deserves to RIP for the joy and inspiration he brought to so many.
