I believe a solution capable of dissolving substances is a solvent not a solute. 0:30

Ricardo Aviles yeah I had to go back and see if I heard that right. hopefully people realize that he got it wrong

@@samantharhodes484 Yes, that confused me for a moment. The way I learned it was: Solvent + Solute = Solution, where Solvent = that which is the most of! (not very scientific wording but I think that's accurate).

Thanks for sharing! This video allowed me to understand the difference between diffusion and osmosis pretty easily. The animations are a little bit slow though, quick fix by increasing KZfaq´s speed to 2.0.

Osmosis is the movement of water molecules through a semi permeable membrane from region of its higher concentration of water molecules to region of its lower concentration of water molecules. This will be the defination of osmosis but in the video its wrong..... please check it............

this isnt very good. i want to know WHY the water molecules move from high to low concentration in osmosis. its NOT because nature wants to balance things out, because nature isnt a personal being with wants and desires. these explanations just cause confusion and should be specifically avoided. not bad vid other than that

Pressure could be another way to explain this situation. The water pressure in the higher concentration of water is greater than the water pressure for the lower concentration of water. The bigger pressure forces the water to go from the higher to the lower, and relieves the pressure. If you want a more in-depth understanding of pressure, think of it this way: Pressure is a measure of the collisions molecules make within a container. In this case, the container is the semipermeable membrane. There is a greater collision of molecules of water in the higher concentration than the lower, so to balance it out, the pressure pushes the water out from higher to lower so that the pressures will equalize. Hope that helps man! Also, I remember learning something in Sociology which helps explain a dilemma I had between science/nature/why things worked: Science explains how; Religion explains why.

Safwan Rahman thanks for that. that makes a lot of sense. im not sure why you had to bring religion into it but cheers anyway

I was thinking maybe you had a nature, science, and how it relates to god kind of concern lol. But I guess not, cheers!

Sam, the answer to the question you are asking is the laws of thermodynamics. If you know nothing about it, then watch some physics videos on thermodynamics. As for your idea of "balance" the term is actually entropy. Hope this helps for a beginning place.
