This book is a comprehensive guide for anyone who wants to create various types of garden buildings. The book provides clear and detailed instructions with numerous photos. kzfaq.infoUgkxBE-xSmFU7PIaMFUmmhnFxE035s5svtxeAs a novice, I appreciated the book's step-by-step approach to the basics of building. The book also appeals to the more advanced DIY enthusiast with projects ranging from simple to complex. The book is up to date with the latest trends, such as solar panels, green roofs, and sweet chestnut shakes. The book has inspired me to pursue more projects in the future.

Probably the best Ryan's kzfaq.infoUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans on building a shed is hardly ever found. And Ryan takes the mystery out of different types of foundation options, etc. He even shows how to build a shed with different designs. Very comprehensive, covering different roofing materials, siding, etc.

I feel your pain so deeply.. here in California most of our older houses are built on a raised foundation too. Although it would probably be easier if I wasn’t 6’3” and 280lbs. I love the FaceTime call under the house from Rich. If I am in a particularly tight area and have to wait for someone to bring me a part I’ll usually FaceTime my claustrophobic buddy and freak him out a bit. Thanks for the great content chief.

Consider using an SDS drill with a clay spade bit fitted; if you have the room in my case, I needed to hand dig 6 to 8 inches to get the assembly into the hole. I found this method much quicker to break up and then remove the soil than digging the full hole by hand. Play safe from Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada.

"I hope its rocky as shit" - proper mate ;). Reminds me of helping out a mate rebuild a house about 15-20 years ago - having to underpin the foundations of one wall with about half a metre wide& deep concrete, we could only dig with a mini spade in about 1m sections fill with concrete, then do the next section, for about 5m.... Much swearing about the 'council spy' and how the wall had sat for about 150years without moving, but suddenly needs several tonnes of concrete - much fun was had ;)

Along with not assuming, there is directed communications. This means you repeat back what you heard to see it both parties are in agreement. I was taught this over 50 years when I started my career in the computer industry. The company I worked for, Digital Equipment Corp, DEC, made the training part of the new hire process. I can’t tell you how many times I have used this communication technique in both my professional and personal life.

Just since you're talking about foundations I have to make the point in Minnesota if you have the money basements even if you need a sump pump or almost necessary cool in the summer warmish in the winter now if you have extra money you get in for heating into the foundations of your house so long as you run it all winter long maybe have a backup system in case one of them goes out your foundations will never crack your basement will be warm and properly cool during the appropriate seasons helping with heating and cooling the rest of the house with conventional climate control.

Great Videos Scott, my two cents worth: The Dunedin City Council's inspection reports always say fail - this is standard until you get your final code of compliance sign off, not sure about your TA though. I noticed your plans reference engineers PS1 - in my experience, if they Engineer has provided a PS1 then they will also carry out inspections and issue an engineers monitoring PS4 and carry out all inspections, they are typically a little more practical than TA inspectors.
@kiwigrunt330
@kiwigrunt330 Жыл бұрын
If the inspection passes, then it should not say fail. That is ridiculous. Fail implies that you cannot continue. That there is something to rectify and that another inspection is needed. Engineers will only carry out those inspections if the council requires a PS4. This is laziness and responsibility avoidance on the part of councils for simple jobs like this. There is no reason why an inspector cannot inspect a 700 cubic hole in the ground. Which he/she still has to do anyway. So if a PS4 is required (we don’t know that because Scott doesn’t know why it failed) then those two holes would cost Scott probably about $150 for the council inspection, $400 to $500 for the engineer inspection and a fee to prepare a PS4. By the way, I don’t want to be pedantic….but I do. 😁 There is no such thing as a code of compliance sign off. It is a code compliance sign off. I still have no idea why the word ‘of’ slipped in there decades ago.

I constantly have the same issue with building inspection reports coming back with a big red FAIL attached ... despite the inspection going very well. I usually get an okay to proceed with pour or cladding etc along with a list of required documentation noted as reasons for failed inspection outcome... Super Fustrating. for eg they may require an engineers producer statement which always comes at the end of the project so why this contributes to a fail doesnt make sense especially as Clients have full access to this report i cant quite understand why. I also live in your same region...

Nice and probably done to plans but I"d have used thicker rebar to pin to the old footing, more pins or both to transfer the shear forces to the new pad. Also that soil cross-section 7:38 shows a great topsoil depth - isn't the clay classed as "good ground" and from where you start your footing depth? Obviously the old foundations didn't do this but we did things differently in dem olden days.
@kiwigrunt330
@kiwigrunt330 Жыл бұрын
The rebar pins are more than adequate. The 700 cubic lumps of concrete are most likely there for uplift resistance more than for support. And for that purpose it is overkill, given that the posts are not stand-alone like they would be in for instance a car port.

Lucky? Here in the UK, it is extremely unusual (I’ve never come across one) to have a house built on piles so that you can crawl into the space from outside. Ignoring very old houses (say 200 years or more) where you could be lucky to have any kind of foundations (I nearly bought a 15th century house where there were no foundations and the internal ground floor was compacted earth; it had to kept that way as it was Grade 1 listed; it would have been great to have bought it but the cost of the upkeep was phenomenal). Some houses that I have worked on had a brick perimeter wall with timber beams and timber supports (running at 90 degrees to the beams) on which floor boards were laid but the space is usually 200,300mm only. So, if you need to access that void, it is a question of pulling up the floor boards. My sons house in NSW has a crawl space such as yours and it’s been great to have that in order to fit new drainage.
