Edit: Looks like I've been mispronouncing Machinedramon! The Next Order dub taught me some bad habits with "Machine-dray-mon" after being out of the series for so long. :') Sorry about that! Hey everyone, A VIDEO?! Thanks for being so patient, I really appreciate it. I spend almost every evening on my Twitch if you want some more content to enjoy, or go check out some of my other recent videos! Hope you enjoy this episode, turns out I really, REALLY love Digimon.

Sooo...I actually did not spoil myself on what your next video was, and decided to wait for the final release instead of watching the patreon drop. I was literally replaying digimon world while waiting for Arise to show up..... Years upon years ago, I recall leaving a trail of PINK SHIT ! In every area until I finally found the portable toilet items..... And the shit never goes away..... And Sukamon would not survive some of these areas.............

Digimon as a whole is going through a micro boom. We are just about to finish the new adventure anime with a new series coming out soon. Then the digimon TCG has a new incarnation that doesn't suck and is doing quite well. And as you mentioned survive is coming eventually. I grew up with the franchise and loved and followed it so it nice to see others share that in some compacity

emphasis on eventually. I am looking forward to it. Moreover, the vpets you've seen in this video are rather recent. Hell, there's an entire community dedicated to playing these Vpets and others. That community even made it possible to fight online with said vpets. Also, the new anime, ghost stories, features the current vpet. Though it's more of a cheap fitbit you can raise digimon on. But I love the thing still... anyway, that fitbit is ghost stories' Digivice.

Digimon World was the game I was playing with my school friends before I moved from Japan to the US. When I connected with them 10 years later, one of the first message I got was “Of course I remember you! I wouldn’t forget someone I played Digimon World with” so this game has a ton of fond memories (including getting that slug mfer over and over). Thanks for the video :)

I fucking love the Digimon World games, and I'm so glad you're covering them and bringing them to other people's attention. Anyone who's even remotely intrigued by these titles, *please* give them a chance! The open-world virtual pet RPG is such a unique premise that only these three games really offer, which is a shame because I think there's so much potential here. Regarding Re:Digitize, there's an expanded port on the 3DS called Re:Digitize Decode. It's the same game but with a bunch more content and two new storylines. The fan translation was recently finished, it's absolutely worth checking out if you liked Re:Digitize and want more, or liked the other two Worlds but never tried Re:Digitize.

Hell yeah Digimon! I am going to share some training tips for Next Order for Clemps and anyone else interested. The only time you will actually want to train in the gym is a the very start when both your Digimon are just wee babys. Otherwise you want to train in the field. One training session is 1 hour ingame time while only really increasing one stat. A hefty time loss for little reward. Post-battle stat growth s across the board and no ingame time passes in battle! As you can see its much more rewarding per hour. At some point you won´t earn stats anymore - which means you need to move on to stronger enemys. For this method you want the Digimon you are training to be Rookie level because higher stages have less growth potential from battle increases. Which mean that *you want your Digimon to be apart in age* so that your Ultimate/Mega can train your Rookie (Rookie gets tutor bonus) Which will lead to the funny situation where you see a Rookie stronger then your Mega lol. You also earn lots of money that way.

You can still get Digimon virtual pets today. Walmart and target currently sell the 20th anniversary edition of the original pet. It looks exactly the same as the old one but with a few fixes and tweaks including the ability to not loose your save when the battery dies and even the ability to raise two Digimon at once just like in Next Order, as that was also a 20th anniversary game. They are pretty rad.

The sad thing about Re:Digitize was that not only did we not get it outside of Japan but the fact it also got an enhanced port on 3DS with tons of additional content and changes. Thankfully the same team that translated the original psp version released an English translation for the 3DS version at the beginning of this year.

I had a really weird relationship with Digimon World as a kid. I loved the TV show so I decided to pick it up and to my dismay was infinitely frustrated with all of the things you mentioned. I got to the point where I was just about to just resell it, but for some reason I decided that I wasn't going to give it up. Over the next couple of months I bought the strategy guide (which almost felt necessary in hindsight) and kept trying. Over time I learned it's quirks, I got better at being more methodical in my approach, and eventually I beat the game with the Digimon I wanted. It's a game I learned to love and is now one of my favorite games. The irony is that looking back the game was kind of like having your first pet. It didn't live up to my imagined expectations, was frustrating with how much you have to take care of it, and it was unruly when you don't know what to do. But you give it some time, learn from it, grow stronger with it, and you will learn to love it.

Man, the first Digimon series was something special to me - not the first anime I ever watched but the first one I would go out of my way to tune in to, even if I was out on a road trip or staying at a relative's house I would find a way to sneak off and catch any bit of the next episode I could. Tamers was even better because it was a sort of personal wish fulfillment series, I wanted so much for it to be real when I was young. XD Glad I wasn't the only one to be traumatized by Numemon's poop-eating proclivities - nothing like watching your adorable Agumon "drop anchor" on the floor, digivolve into a slug, then immediately turn around and slurp up the still fresh leavings. I, uh... never finished the game.

I don't think could handle the emotional tax of the "dying mechanic", so as an ex-Pokemon fan looking for a Digimon-jumping-on point, I guess my search continues. But that's not to discredit these games, because otherwise you really sold me on how cool these games are, and I wish I could experience them without that one mechanic. Though I'm aware _because_ it's a core mechanic in them, these games probably hit the perfect niche for some, and I wouldn't want them to lose that. So I'll just sit back and respect this trilogy from afar.

The Cyber Sleuth games may be a good way to start. I've not got much experience with Digimon games but I really enjoyed both of them and they're available together as the complete edition on Steam and Switch. Gameplay is very similar to Mainline Pokemon but up to 3 v 3 battles.
@BaneDane_JB

If you're fine emulating old Ass games Digimon Worlds 2 and 3 on the PS1 dont have the dying mechanic (World 2 is still prety hardcore in that it's a dungeon cralwer where you make gas limited runs in a vehicle into each dungeon, and fight turn based battles with 3 V 3 digimon World 3 keeps the 3 V3 turn based but is in an open environment with the step limite removed. But id honestly just go what most people recommend and try Cyber sleuth since its essentially the modern variant of those two games.

It literally has you going to multiple cities to battle leaders to earn their badges while a criminal organization called the A.o.A. are doing nefarious things that become more clear later in the plot.

15:53 I love that you credited the composers for this part, however the composer information for the original DW1 tracks is incorrect, I'd like to note. File City (Day) is composed by Yuko Ishii, and Event Battle is composed by Koji Yamada. Satoshi Ishikawa began to work on the series composing a few tracks for World 2 alongside lead composer Yamada, before becoming the sole composer in World 3 and World 4. However, he has no involvement with the first game.

I only owned Digimon World 1 and I felt lucky to find a copy in the early 2000s as an Australian since there were none at the shopping centres near my house but I managed to find one in a far away store when we were picking up a relative from the airport. My experience was usually the same of getting my rookie or champion digimon killed after spending an hour or two raising and training them. Even when I went back to the game as an adult about a decade ago it was rough. Digimon Rumble Arena 1 on the PS1 is also worth mentioning as having the same art style as this game but it's a fighting game instead. Honestly I think I had more fun with that game back in the day but Digimon World 1 was a good time-waster at least.

I have simple tastes. I see Digimon, I like video. Man, I remember playing the first Digimon World as a kid. Played it as an adult and oh boy that game is the slowest of all slow burns. I can't get over how under-powered you are at the start and having to start over after x amount of time. Vivid memories of being in the starting town and the forest, and basically nothing for everywhere else (which I feel is common). For years I could never get into the few Digimon games I could get my hands on, and then Cybersleuth came around and rocked me. Never saw a lot of stuff regarding the ones in this video, so I'll consider them at some point.

Man I remember playing Digimon World when i was little and just not getting it; I kept getting my partner digimon killed in battle and getting the cursed poop-eater over and over again. I liked the game well enough and made it to some kind of snow zone, but my 10-year-old patience had run out. I later saw Digimon World 3 on a store shelf and decided to give it a shot, and I found the more traditional RPG battles to "click" in my head and I had a blast. I spend tons of time getting the little card packs for the in-game TCG and optimizing my decks. What a good series. Great video, Clemps!

Next Order is actually really nice about desynchronized deaths. The more of a difference there is between the evolution levels of your Digimon, the more stats the younger one gets when you train, so you can use the wait between rebirths to powerlevel your reborn Digimon-- and since they'll be digivolving earlier because of their heightened stats, when the other passes away a day or two later, they'll also get benefits from their partner having already digivolved a few times so they'll be up and running together before too long, and with substantially better stats than before.

First point, your video reviews have greatly improved, and although I've never met you in person, I'm proud of ya Clemps. Second point, I also played the first game and without proper instruction on what was going on, I spent way to much time in the training ground without any idea of what to do. I lasted about five-six hours before giving up. After seeing that the death cycle is a consistent factor of this game series, I know I'll never touch it.

Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory are AMAZING!! I played through both on the PS Vita and, frankly, those where my first two Digimon games and an excellent introduction to Digimon in general. Edit: oh yeah, forgot to mention... if you play the beginning 3rd of Hacker's Memory you've got the plot for SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers

One thing I really like about the original Digimon World which I thought the sequels lacked is in the variety in how you collect the digimon for the town. They aren't all winners but it's cool how there is a shopping mini game, dodging a sniper, needing a bakemon to understand the bakemon, fishing for seadramon ect ect. Like in the sequels you mostly just talk to them, fight them and then they join which I though was a step backwards (original not perfect by any stretch though it is definitely a frustrating game lol)

Is Bravely Second: End Layer in the ‘things I’ll do later’ pile? I really enjoyed both of the videos on Bravely Default, and I’m very attached to Second, so I was wondering if it was something you’re covering sooner (like, a year or two) or waaaay later (sometime in 2035 or beyond). Love the video, by the way! Editing and script were incredible as always!

Great video as always, your writing and editing are top notch! It took me halfway through the video before the mummies joke finally landed lol Many years ago I was in a gaming store and they happend to have both Digimon World and Digimon Rumble Arena on sale. Unfortunately I could only choose one and chose for Rumble Arena, so I never played World for myself. But it looks like I've been kinda missing out because these games look fun!
