Kazakhstan went through hell because the occupier forced them to work hard, took food, and took men to fight for their cause. They were treated cruelly, starved and died of exhaustion. There were no workers in the country to work on the land, because only women and children remained, and there was famine. They rebelled, but they were dealt with. As a result, only two million Kazakhs remained after World War II. Then the neighbor continued to rule over them, turning part of Kazakhstan into a testing ground for nuclear tests, so that part of the land is contaminated. They had to speak Russian, learn false history, and children were brainwashed at school from an early age to make them believe that their only and true friend was the occupier. Dimash was born right after regaining freedom. The country was still in its infancy, but his family made sure he knew the language. He loves the country and his compatriots very much, he has become an example for them and many people are learning their language, songs and Kazakh games again. Dimash does a lot for his homeland, makes it famous around the world, sings Kazakh songs, shows instruments. He became an example and a treasure for his people. In addition, he helps as much as he can, supports children, respects elders, talks about various Kazakh artists, ballet, schools. He is very humanitarian, he keeps all his actions for others a secret, but people believe that the world should know how much good Dimash does and that is why they often reveal his humanitarian actions, help and support for families. Remember that Dimash will only be thirty years old, and he is already an Honorary Ambassador of the Silk Road Countries, an Honorary Ambassador of Asian Countries. He talks to various important people about cultural exchange, film, art, etc. He is rewarded for his actions and yesterday he received the title of IOM Goodwill Ambassador at the UN office in Geneva. He works hard creatively and in every other way for the good of people.

From @rodrigorra31532 For Dimash, this is the most difficult song to sing, due to the story behind it. Samaltau means Mount Samal. The lyrics are sad because they refer to when in 1916 the Russians recruited young Kazakhs and forced them to fight in the First World War. According to the lyrics, a young man who marches towards the battle zone thinks about what awaits him and suffers for what will happen to his parents, who are old and left alone, and who may not return alive. On the way he also thinks that it will be the last time he will see his house and his beautiful mountains. For Dimash, family union and love for her is one of the greatest things, hence the difficulty in interpreting it. The Russian tsar and recruiters treated us like cattle (they didn't feed us, they kept us in unsanitary conditions). That is why, out of 400,000 (Kazakh) soldiers recruited in the first months, 150,000 died of disease and starvation. They did not give us weapons, they fought with shovels against cannons and rifles. Of the 400,000 Kazakh soldiers, 300,000 conscripted Kazakhs did not return home (the fate of the author of this song is unknown; perhaps he died in that war)- KOBYZ Kobyz is an ancient instrument, it was used by the wise and referents to drive away evil spirits, formerly its two strings were made with horsetail Greetings from Panama.

When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia, young Kazakhs were forced, by the Russian Empire, to leave their homes and fight many years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who desperately marches into a war that is not his, besides the sadness of leaving his parents, elders, with no one to take care of and the certainty that he will never see the mountains (“tau”) of Kazakhstan again generated this wonderfully sad song! In addition to Dimash's talent, we have a wonderful ambience and two fantastic musicians: Olzhas Qurmanbeck - Master in playing Qobyz (Kobyz, who looks like a violin), the other who plays “rainstick”! A supernatural journey to the plains of Kazakhstan, through Music!

2:04 "sounds rainy" because what sounds is the "rain stick" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainstick That song runs through his veins. The player made the Kobyz (that violin/tchello like) sound almost crying because is a sad, melancholic though angry song complaining for when their country got virtually empty of young men when the russian Tzar ordered first that the horses and later that Kazakhstani men from 19 to 39 should be enlisted forcefully as soldiers and then driven like animals to fight, walking thousands of miles leaving old parents and children behind in a harsh land. From unknown composer, lyrics gives a clue about his origin: Samal tau; North of Kazakhstan; and a clue about his age: “born in the year of the cow” 1888. The author would be 28 y.o. when the first W.W began for him in 1916, as they count from year of the cow (1888) to year of the cow (1910). They use the Tengrian Calendar A song that could not be sung in the times when Kazakhstan was part of the Soviet Union Dimash took it back to big international stages.

Normally I don't comment your reactions because I'm not sure you read them or you even have interest in the story of a song but I’ll give it a try and this song deserves to know what it's about. The instrument you mentioned is called Qobyz. The Qobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who is playing the Qobyz in Dimash’s performance is the best on this instrument and a very good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or ÒmirÒter and at the stage performance in Stranger. The flute is called Sygyzgy and is mainly played in the Kyrgyz and Kazakh regions. According to Wikepedia it is traditionally played by shepherd horse herders. A wonderful sound. Samaltau is about a young Kazakh who was forcibly recruited by Russia in 1916. He was forced to leave his home country and his elderly parents to go to war (WWI) and does not know what awaits him there as a soldier or how his elderly parents are to manage without him. He was forced into a war that is not his.

Yes, this is one of the beautiful Kazakh folk songs. This was a poem by an unknown young man telling the tale of being called to fight the war in 1916 in Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 They had to walk for days to get to their destination. Dimash loves to sing the Kazakh folk songs as he is very proud of his heritage & loves his homeland. If you want to hear more of these songs then look for Daididau, Durdaraz & Qairan Elim. Thanks 😊🙏💞

Thank you for this beautiful reaction. The instrument that sounds like rain is called rain stick. You can buy it or make it. The rain stick is a traditional instrument originated in Latin America, where cactus spines are inserted into dried, hollowed cactus branches which are then filled with pebbles, raw rice or dried beans. It was used by the natives to attract rain. Amazing combination with the unique sounds of the kobyz and the majestic voice of Dimash who takes us through another epic journey along the kazkh history. ❤❤❤

Out of all of Dimash's songs, this is my favourite. I love the fact that he's sitting cross legged for this performance, and he tends to do that for this song, even when he plays it live. For the marriage, it's a 3 strand cord (Ecc 4:12). The rain stick is an awesome instrument, we have one, it was given to my husband as a gift when he was a kid. As far as I know it is just a dried arm of a cactus with the needles all pushed inside and they make that noise as you turn it over, the needles that are fully pushed in hit the ones that are still embedded in the 'flesh/wood' of the stick making the trickle sound like rain. Keep enjoying Dimash's songs, he's awesome. If you ever get a chance, look up a singer by the name of Faouzia, she pretty amazing too. Sorry I can't donate at this time.
