What a smart way to use Dimensions! We are finishing up 1B this week, and yes, we write in the textbook! We also rarely use the workbook, except for the challenging questions and for some chapters that need more reinforcement, such as the Time and Money chapters. We love Dimensions for how customizable it is. And you are absolutely right, the only way to do Dimensions is to let the problems support your learner, and stop when mastery is achieved.

This is awesome! “The balanced mom” uses only the workbook but you’re using only the textbooks. That’s a big pro for the teachers guide vs the HIG since either way you still have the option to “see” the other components without having to juggle all the books. Can’t wait to see how you continue with it. I really am getting a lot out of the content you share, so thanks!

I love how you have adapted the program to what you need! I still struggle with that a bit. I am trying to be better with not feeling like I have to check every box and do it to a T.

Thank you this was very helpful!! We’re using primary US, and pretty happy with it although there are always pros and cons. You presented this in a way that helps me to compare and imagine various ways we might use dimensions if we ever need to switch.

I teach at a private school. We currently use Abeka, but it is so far behind newer programs. I purchased Singapore Dimensions to use in small groups as a supplement for my 3rd graders. I may have many questions for you as my year begins. Thank you for this video.

Thanks for this informative video! We used Dimensions in Kindergarten and loved it, but when we tried it in first grade I struggled like you. We switched over to TGTB math this year for second grade and although it is pretty I am not sure we'll stick with it. I've checked out Horizons and think I'll take another look at Dimensions. My daughter loves colorful workbooks, which is one reasons we loved Dimensions K but not Dimensions 1A. I think if we just use the text book it might be just right! I'd love to hear if you will stick with the teachers guide or switch over to the HIG.

Dimensions 1A/1B is where the workload really kicks up. As a new homeschool mom that amount of work was overwhelming and I didn't full comprehend how much I could modify the curriculum for our needs. We love color around here too so the colorful Dimensions is very attractive for us. I tend to think all the perks of the teachers guide will keep me but who knows I tend to think the grass is greener on the other side even when my lawn is fantastic haha!

This looks great! I really like your plan for how to best use the curriculum to meet your needs. How difficult do you think it would be for someone who has only every used PM 2022 to make the switch to dimensions? I have a 4th grader and while I think that we are finally getting into a good rhythm, it only goes up to 5th grade. I like that dimensions would give us a few more years.

It's possible that you would need to go down one level when you switched. For instance if you stopped after 5B you might need to start at 5A or 5B in Dimensions. You would have to compare the scope and sequences to see how much wasnt covered for PM2022. We are currently doing a separate multiplication curriculum during the summer to be ready for Dimensions 3A because it wasn't covered at the same level in PM2022 . Hope that makes sense ❤

We are just finishing up 3B now. The beginning was a little bumpy since we were new to Singapore Math (Mental Math strategies and especially bar modeling) I started out having him do everything (workbook and textbook per lesson) and it let to frustration due to amount of work. We switched to doing all in textbook and then I circle the workbook exercises I want him to do. We also do 1 test at the end of each chapter. Now that I pick and choose the workbook exercise and we got used to it, it is smooth sailing. Math test scores have gone up almost 1 full grade in only 4 months so since it’s working for us, we plan to use 4 next. For my rising 1st grader I decided to go with a combo of Math with Confidence and Horizon Math mixed in instead. Each kid is different so Iam not sure Dimensions would work for him.

I love that you found a method that works well for you. You are 💯 correct each child is different and what works for one may not work at all for the other! I'm cant wait to get started back with Dimensions again. Thanks for watching and commenting ❤

This was extremely helpful because I did almost the exact same thing as you! We did dimensions for KA and KB and loved it! But I had the same thoughts as you - - too overwhelming with allllll the problems. So I got swept away in the Primary 2022 craze with it being shiny and new so we did that for 1A and 1B. I liked all the same things you liked about it and didn't like the same things you didn't like! It was SO validating watching your video on your update and seeing that someone else thought the exact same things! So this year for 2 I've been debating primary u.s. or just going back to dimensions. One of the things that is pulling me toward primary u.s. is the mental math portion, I'm not good at mental math at all and want my kids to be. Since you've done both, did you feel mental math skills was better in one or the other? Also, if you hadn't gotten such a good deal on the dimensions do you think you would have gone with it or primary u.s.? Thanks!

Thank you for letting me know I wasnt alone in the feelings of PM2022! If I had not gotten such a great deal I probably would have went back to original Primary. I love the size of the books and I also liked the mental math sheets in the back. I also love how simplistic the teaching style is from Primary also. Both Dimensions and Primary US can easily be switched back and forth. So I may go back to Primary next year to just keep things from being the same look each year. Hope you find a great fit! We are really enjoying being back in Dimensions. She has really enjoyed the added books that are recommended and the activities. If your after Singapore method I dont think you can go wrong with either ❤

We are brand new to Dimensions and just started today on 1B. I think it’ll work great but was a bit shocked at the amount of work. The tests have kind of stumped me. It’s way too much to do but it bothers me if we just do A and then not B since they test concepts a bit differently. Maybe I’ll use your idea and do test A and then keep test B for an end of year review? Love that it gives lots of options so it can be modified but think it really has to be modified because it’s way too much especially in earlier grades.

Absolutely its alot and even Singapore Math has posted saying to chose the amount of work that is best for you. I think they provide an abundance so its needed its there. But I completely understand it is so hard to not do something when it's on the paper. My advice would be to utilize the number of questions needed until your student has the concept down (sometimes that might only be 3 questions!) Thanks for watching and commenting

Aside from the multiplication aspect, do you think that transitioning from Primary 2B 2022 to Dimensions 3A is pretty simple? I'm loving the book recommendations portion, the simple but colorful layout (much like Primary 2022). And now that I see your example of how you're choosing the amount of work to do, it makes it less intimidating. Was your "issue" with Primary 2022 the lack of challenging problems? I know you mentioned you weren't loving the multiplication chapter.
@knowledgebynature8480
@knowledgebynature8480 2 жыл бұрын
I "think" we will make a pretty seamless transition from PM22 to Dimensions after covering some multiplication. She has always done Singapore Math so her mental addition and grouping teaching is already there, so I think it should go rather well. In regards to PM22, I never felt settled with this curriculum. The teacher's guide was not something I ever got comfortable using and the overall flow just seemed off for me. It is hard to pinpoint exactly one reason because it really was numerous things that didn't mesh well with my current personal style of teaching and what I thought she needed from a curriculum. It did however show me how little practice she needs sometimes (which is going to help me immensely when returning to Dimensions).

Do you know, are the workbooks available as ebooks at all? I really like the idea of just using the textbook to reduce workload and saving money but then don't love the idea of writing everything out if they need extra practice.

Hi, Does this constantly review the previously learned concepts as you are learning new ones? Also, is the teacher guide scripted? Thank you...

This mastery based therefore there is very limited review within the lessons. You will have extra practice that could be used "tests" and "workbook" material. I would not consider the guide scripted. There is a subscription service available that has videos teaching the lesson step by step, it's pretty awesome.

Do you know anything about the videos that come along with this curriculum? I believe is a subscription you purchase separate. I am asking you because I am doing Math in Focus/Singapore but I am having a lot of hiccups with my 3rd grader daughter. She is having a bad attitude and I am giving up. You know those days you want to send the kids to public school. I know the best for her is to stay home with mommy. But I am pulling my hairs up. I would like to switch to dimensions, if I found videos with someone else explaining the math instead of me. I do like Math In Focus, but we are having friction in our relationship. Although, I purchase the whole package of MIF including the teachers edition, but again I am willing to invest because it will cost me less than paying a shrink to restore our relationship. Would love to hear your insights. Thank you

@@knowledgebynature8480 I very rarely have him do the challenge problems, or if I have him do them we work through it together. Yes. If you get the teacher's guide, it will usually have at least one game to play each lesson. In addition, there are usually picture books that coordinate with each chapter as well which make it more exciting.
