exactly. and not everyone can shop the same. i'm very good at saving, and the biggest reason why is i have storage, and cooking equipment. i've had to budget living out of my van before, or even my car, or at times without any shelter not provided by me finding one nomadically. each of those situations was so incredibly different how i ate, what i could eat, store, and prepare. when i see these videos, it's just interesting to see how people elevate the cheapest foods with the least amount possible. and as they say, hunger is the best seasoning sometimes.

@@ZucchiniSlayer its way more efficent to cook off the water naturally instead of taking it off the heat to drain the water, and then putting it back on and having it have to heat back up, plus you drain off the grease which actually helps it get crispy at first before you drain it

@@jbsimmons54 you're wrong, they both do have cheese. Usually it's parm mixed into the potatoes so when you bake it, the mashed potatoes gets a nice crust. But as someone else mentioned, you can literally add or take away whatever you want. That's the joy of food. Making it to your taste❤

Ok, I learned the difference between cottage pie and shepherds pie today. Shepherd's pie uses lamb. Which makes sense. Cottage pie uses beef. Which makes you wonder, "What is a cow doing in the cottage? And should I be using cottage cheese?" 🤔 Anyhoooo... great recipe! If I am ever in America again, or if a Dollar Tree pops up in the great land down under, I'll be trying this for sure! I might try to find similar ingredients in Aldi.

Awesome stuff! I have to wonder though, since Dollar Tree has more expensive stuff (per unit price, like you'll pay an extra dollar per oz as opposed to walmart for a given meat, or even two dollars compared to a bulk store like Costco), if this exact meal could be made for a total price of even less. Either way, great way to have a bunch of food on a budget!
