If Cowboy Bebop is about forgetting the past, Champloo is about learning to let go in order to move on.

The thing about Bebop WAS moving on. Those characters will never forget about their past, because it shaped them. That's why the show end with "You're gonna carry that weight". If anything, I'd say Samurai Champloo is perfectly summed up by this final song.

funny thing is, the anime let us think the opposite way, which is: Whatever leave you, might just come back to you somehow, someway. Just like the last farewell of the trio, they eventually met each other again by pure chance, so the ending is probably another temporary farewell, they might meet each other again. But we never know....

2:02 Jin walking along a path with the multiple Buddhist statues, symbolizes he is heading towards a shrine/monaestry, where the girl Shino is assumed to be at. 2:16 in the close up of Mugen's feet, there seems to be the feet of a female shinobi with a slight hesitation in the walking, this symbolizes the Ninja girl Yatsuha who declared she wanted to marry Mugen. However the final scene with the bird symbolizes Mugen's personality, a free bird, a free man. 2:25.

Samurai Champloo's ending reminds us that we must learn to let go of a good thing especially if it binds us to the past. The relationship Mugin, Jinn and Fuu had was a happy, emotional extension of their past. This past was painful, full of guilt, shame, sadness and burnt of a lack of emotional closeness. Their quest for the flower samurai is a clever metaphor for severing the heavy chains of the past while walking towards it, confronting it, understanding and making peace with it. It marvels me with how much levity they were able to part but when you consider human nature... it makes sense. We all need to grow, reach our higher selves and give a chance to love and embrace peace of mind. For that to happen a separation had to take place.

I cry like a baby every time I see this ending. The first time I watched it through, I was fucked up for DAYS. It felt like a huge void was left and I couldn’t figure out why. Then I rewatched the show and figured it out, the message at the end is one that is so realistic and devastating to the likes of any human being, it’s that people come into your life, teach you a lesson, share memories with you, and then leave and move on. Nothing lasts forever, so we must learn to let go and continue on our own paths. No favorite character died at the end, we did not get everyone’s full life story, or a conclusion of how their lives end up, but what we got was something far more powerful, a moment in time, where friendships are made and life goes on. A Masterpiece.

I really like how this ending contrasts with Cowboy Bebop's ending. Both have similar themes and characters but the stories end differently. Spike and Mugen both have criminal backgrounds but what separates them is that Spike almost has an obligation to see Julia again and settle things with Vicious whereas Mugen wants nothing to do with his past and is content with leaving that life behind and living how he sees fit. Jet and Jin are both the most mature members of their respective groups as well as the anchors that keep things stable. But the big difference is that Jet feels like he has to keep the group together no matter how unrealistic it may seem whereas Jin knows the journey simply won't last forever and so doesn't get mad or angry whenever Mugen or Fuu leave suddenly throughout the series. Faye and Fuu have nearly identical stories but while Faye refuses to leave Spike and Jet at the end of the series due to the pair being the closest thing she has to family, Fuu still decides to end things and move on with her life. Cowboy Bebop focuses on desperately clinging to the past and the refusal to change whereas Samurai Champloo is about ending things on a bittersweet note and acknowledging that it's okay to reminisce and cherish moments but eventually you have to move on.

This reminded me of the last day of class back in college, We all stayed as late as possible talking before we all drove out of the parking lot and dispersed to our various homes. It was kind of sad, kind of beautiful at the same time, such is life. People go their separate ways and live their own lives but friendship will forever keep us connected. For those moments we were together we were all important to each other on a day to day basis and when the time came we all had the knowledge and strength we needed to venture to bigger stages in life where we won't have the luxury of always being around each other.

The "breaking up" of platonic friends can hit just as hard as the break up of a romantic relationship, even harder in this case. And even though they weren't romantic with each other the trio had literally been through a hell of a lot together; taking lives, saving lives, traveling for months, sometimes going without food for days, sleeping outside, funny moments, tragic moments, cheating death over and over again, making sure the squad stays together no matter what. I'm not saying they needed to spend the rest of their lives together but at the same time damn, it's kind of surreal to come out on the other side of all that and say "Well, that was dope. Y'all be safe and keep it real. Peace out!" But that really is how life goes and I guess that's what made this such an awesome, bittersweet ending.

I love how Fuu is the one to say goodbye first and leaves basically saying "later" while smiling. Originally being the one that kept them together through the whole show. It was a nice contrast. Even though it was short, the goodbye wasn't cold or without feeling. It's like she wanted to leave it as is, no drawn out long goodbyes. I like how it cuts between the three of them walking, it feels they are all reflecting on how now, they have people they can call friends. Such an uplifting ending.

Even as I watch this again, I can never shake off the feeling that them walking down different paths doesn't mean that their adventure is done yet. Because before this, all three of them have come to understand not only each other but theirselves and their goals more. Fuu forgave her father after learning of what made him leave them and never return for so long. Mugen realized that living and living for something isn't such a bad thing afterall. And Jin learned that he wasn't traveling to run away and punish himself for his past. Both Mugen and Jin know that Fuu can't protect herself well, and it's even more difficult that she attracts danger like a magnet. As I was crying when I first watched this scene, it felt like Fuu is going to look for food, Jin is going to look for jobs to do for food and a new pair of glasses, and Mugen's looking for a brothel. And when they meet up, everyone would be ready to start yet another adventure as a traveling trio.

Quite simple yet brilliantly done. This show did exactly what I wished for in many other stories with three main MCs and that is to build a benefitical and realistic bond between characters that reached a great understanding of each other in such short time without having it look forced. The three way separation and her final words felt heaviy, yet so natural at the same time and of course the soundtrack made it even more cool with the fitting genre. definitely a 9/10

For Fuu, Mugen, & Jin it was about the journey not the destination, they all confronted their pasts and came over it while growing as people because of the experience. It was time to leave they all went they're separate ways. But you could tell by the look on their faces it wasn't goodbye it was just a see ya later.

Imagine how much more sad the departure would be if they played the original ending song Shiki No Uta

I love shiki no uta , my favorite ending theme ever , but I don’t think it would do this ending justice.

Rik Rocks I've watched quite a few animes in the mix of my tv shows so far but this one goes further than just the amazing story but makes it simple, not to where you feel stupid but where you feel that you can watch over and over. the addition of legendary producing to the soundtrack made it go full circle since I produce as a hobby so I'm sold

Swag Master I am not saying this anime is bad or average. It's a really great anime but no, there definitely are better animes out there and there will be in the future. I know this comes down to taste and opinions but I am sure you will find something better. Watch Mob Psycho 100 for now or maybe Psycho Pass Season 1 which I think came a little after Champloo.

This is a real ending man. I felt happy instead of sadness, most of the time I be feeling kind of disappointed because of the anime ending. But this one was so different, somehkw acceptable I felt glad for all the characters. And I always think they'll still somehow reunite and travel together like always.

I love that, unlike Cowboy Bebop in which 20+ episodes establishing how close the Bebop crew are meant nothing as Spike throws himself into death over a woman the audience had little reason to care for, Samurai Champloo ends on a more positive note as the trio's time together actually _meant_ something and is what gives our three previously fatalist protagonists reasons to keep living

Their mission has ended. each character was always on their own path, it just so happens for a shirt time those paths converged for a beautiful journey. They each enriched one another's travels for a short time, but they all have to continue on their own paths.
