Dinobots vs. Megatron - TFA Deleted Scene (Feat. David Kaye!)

HUGE thank you to DAVID KAYE for reprising his role, and to legendary animator OMUSUNDA for taking on several shots!
The Allspark Almanac II details a deleted scene from Megatron Rising Part 2. Over the last few months, we finally animated it! The first clip’s narrative placement is a “best-guess”, but the last two can be firmly placed there from context provided by the boards. I added the initial flyover shot of Megatron, because the Almanac didn't include the establishing shot that presumably exists.

Context in the description! Most of this was animated by OMUSUNDA, and of course; the Blitzwing/Bulkhead scenes are lifted directly from the show for context. - Keyan

Despite how short these scenes were. It felt good to see all the TFA Dinobots fighting the Decepticons together.

Remember that one line of Rachet's from episode 1 when referring to the Decepticons? "Defeated, not destroyed." Yeah, I feel like that one line ended up being a lot more powerful and meaningful then any of us ever imagined it would. That just about sums up this continuity. Defeated, not destroyed.

They're basically like the Viltrimuites in this series, somewhat more menacing as a whole army, its good thing that Bruticus, Menasor or Abominus don't exist in this universe

Man, it really would've been nice to see the Dinobots being involved in that particular battle, even though the poor guys didn't stand a chance against Megatron. Just saying, Megatron Rising Part 1 literally left off with the Dinobots foolishly fighting each other instead of listening to Optimus' plea for help. So, in a way, this makes up for it. Anyway, really loving this new animation as always. 🙂👍

I had thought and hoped the Dinobots would help the Autobots here. I mean, they crashed on their island. But since they didn't, I spent the rest of the series thinking Prowl and Bulkhead should've just let Sumdac melt the Dinobots down. They were nothing but a problem for the Autobots, and it seemed they would've only been really helpful in season 4's finale, which to me would've been way too late to change my mind.

I heard Hasbro were planning on retiring the Dinobots back then, which may explain why they did so little in Animated. There were also plans to have them fight Devastator in season 4 if it was greenlighted.

Yeah honestly TFA's godawful treatment of the Dinobots and Grimlock is why I consider them to be the worst versions of the characters, especially since Soundwave from the same show managed to become a powerful threat despite being underused as well. Even the Bay Dinobots were much more useful than the TFA Dinobots for goodness' sake. Thank goodness for FOC for re-railing the Dinobots afterwards, especially Grimlock.

@@juanyusee8197 It's honestly a shame the Dinobots in TF: Animated were wasted. Derrick J. Wyatt made some really good designs for them, and the way they transformed into their robot modes and took down Meltdown's minions in Survival of the Fittest was amazing. I don't think it's the writers' fault for their portrayal, the fault is most likely Hasbro's because the final say in the production of the episodes is theirs, and because they were planning to retire the Dinobots as I mentioned previously. The first ever Transformers figures I got were the Animated Dinobots, and I've still kept them 15 years later in the hopes that someday they would come back and rise to their full potential. The only way that can happen now though is if we get season 4, most likely in comic book form.

1:18 Now that’s an epic shot! I was disappointed when the Dinobots didn’t show up in the season one finale battle. I definitely appreciate the work and effort you put in animating this deleted sequence! 👍

Good stuff. But I always did hope we'd one day see an actual one-on-one fight between Megatron and Grimlock in this show. I forget where I heard it, but I recall hearing that Grim was as strong as Megs, at least physically. And you don't put in a fun fact like that unless you fully intend to have the two duke it out at some point 😉

Personally I always hated that the Dinobots (Grimlock especially) are selfish brutes in Animated. You it’s hard to call them Autobots here. However Prime was right, even tho they got their asses kicked in this scene, They did indeed fight like Autobots. Fantastic job as always Keyan!!!

0:10 I think Grimlock said destroy puny bird? It seems he's still mad at them for pooping on him haha! Sadly though, Season 2 and 3 crapped on the Dinobots a lot more... 😢 But this (sort of) makes up for it, excellent job, and thanks to everyone who worked on this video!

The weird thing is... Grimlock is the only one who sounded wrong in this video. His voice was deeper in the show and he also tended to speak in a more broken English like G1 Grimlock. Here his grammar is better and sounds more like RID2015 Grimlock.

Voice filter, I feel like we matched the filter pretty closely. I think it starts a little deeper but they filter it lighter by the end of the show. But I’m sure we weren’t perfect. In terms of the dialogue, though, that’s lifted straight from the production materials. I don’t think “Dinobots destroy whirlybird” is too grammatically correct, but I found it weird Grimlock would yell “No!” when his teammates got taken out. I never really thought he had much emotional attachment to them.

iirc the reason this scene was originally cut is because they DID get complete animation, but it was so bad they couldn't justify using it in the final cut. Now like... look. TFA was a nice show, but characters being on model and smooth, high quality animation were not its strong points. Which makes me wonder... *how bad was that animation they got back?????*

@@KeyanCarlileTF Right? Like damn I love season 3 but you cannot pause it on any frame and not go "...Well that's not right." It would be GREAT if this scene could resurface like some other stuff we thought lost, if just so we can all be like "oh... yeah ok, I get it." XD
