In this aluminum inlay project video, I use the new Shaper Origin tool to apply and insert an aluminum logo into the wood deck of my 18' trailer! This aluminum logo inlay project was the first time I used the new production model of this tool. The only other time I test drove this unit it was a handmade prototype 4 years ago video linked below
• ✔ DiResta The Origin f...
this is great tool to apply cnc cuts in the field or on location, or if your limited on space and want to keep a cnc machine in your shop.

Shaper Origin did give me the tool, I did not get paid to make this video.

Several people in the comments are saying “I could never afford this price” imho you y’all being a bit negative... it takes one (maybe 2) jobs to pay for this .. if you really wanted one factor it into a quote for an applicable fabrication job and there ya go. Think happy thoughts. L&R to all ✊🏻

I think the price is fair for it... probably not something the home handyman would buy but an excellent tool nonetheless 👍👍👍👍

Yeah we don't make that kind of money down here in the plantations for woodworking. We're lucky to get paid at all. Most people think that the wood fell off the tree shaped like a dining room chair and all I had to do was go pick up the sticks and glue them together.

Same here. Awesome machine. Would love to play around with it. Quite pricey for my pocket size (but cheap compared to other similar tools that do that kind of job).

The more I see this tool at work, the cooler I think it is. There is a lot of technology going on in that little package. People who don't like the price should remember this is a CNC you hold in your hands, not a router. For that alone, the price is very competitive, and I hear their customer and technical support is outstanding. Anyway, theft deterrent or not, this looks really cool and is another great example of how one can use this tool if they were fortunate enough to have one. Thanks for sharing!

It blew my mind too! I know Jimmy's got a steady hand, but... at first I didn't realize that this cool machine compensates for error, WOW, how clever! I'm going to look up it's Meander Tolerance -this is good for those of us who never could color within the lines. They need to disclose the number of 'coffee cups limit' for proper operation. Thanks for the sharing the good info Seth, some wise words. I agree with Jimmy & all; this should pay for itself quickly -with ease; it'll do a very quick, clean & professional looking job.

I can see this being used in wood flooring, maybe a shop entrance saying welcome or the shop name. Could inlay aluminium, brass or filled with coloured epoxy.

You can certainly make the best out of every tool. And that's a great tool, looks kind of "complicated", but really high quality, and you can make things no other tool can. You're right, it's pricey for an amateur, but a professional can pay it back in a few jobs (like Domino's and other quality tools). What's 100% sure is that these guys have chosen the best person to promote the tool.

What an amazing tool! Not too often someone comes up with an idea this far out of the box. Looks like it holds a pretty decent tolerance for what it is. Thanks Jimmy, I can’t wait to see what else you do with it in the future.

It is little projects like this that keep the brain active. Until this video I couldn't really understand how the Shaper worked. I had seen it on a bunch of videos from other makers, but something clicked this time. Thanks for sharing man. You are making being away from my shop a bit easier, though I would break quarantine today to play with my CNC if I knew I wouldn't get into trouble... Maybe they won't catch me...

@No1sonuk
@No1sonuk 4 жыл бұрын
@@sleeptyper There are a few that don't have a hard bed and can cut "through the frame" as they have twin x drive motors either side of the frame rather than one in the middle. Such a machine could do this by being clamped down to the bed.
@sleeptyper
@sleeptyper 4 жыл бұрын
@@No1sonuk That's true, but in the common sense (what people first think when they hear or read "CNC") CNC machines usually mean CNC milling machines. Obviously we can make anything CNC by adding digital calipers, stepper or servo motors and a computer with software. A lawnmower robot is a CNC machine in it's wider definition, but nobody calls it such. Now the idea of a trailer in a CNC mill... It's technically doable if you have large enough mill, like this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZaWesKd07zMeKs.html

Great video of the Shaper CNC. I am curious if the Shaper would function cutting vertically. I almost purchased one to do a signage job on transaction ledges at a school. Depending on the required layout when I do inlay lettering in Corian I sometime machine the letters mirrored so that the onion skin is on the top of the piece. Solid surface is easy to mill or sand down the surface to be flush. I even leave 1/8" or 1/4" for patterns with a lot of detail. All the sections stay together and after the adhesive is set it gets milled flush on the cnc. (solid surface is non porous and it can help to have vent holes in the bottom of the pockets so that they don't act like little hydraulic rams when inserting the letters... or a large enough gap so that the adhesive can flow up past. )
