The flip over ramp is pretty genius, and I loved all the little tips with the bandsaw and the cold saw for the angles. I’m pretty sure I would have welded those stake pockets right the side only to realize after the fact that it would interfere with flip over gate once I put the rails on 😅

You could weld a couple pieces off pipe across the expanded metal so when you’re ratcheting, there is a smaller point of contact with the pallet and it will go up a lot easier.

When you are talking good things about your welders, I feel proud, that most of them are from my neighbour town in Poland ❤

I can really appreciate you building this from scratch, most of us would have just gone to Harbor Freight and bought their kit and assembled it. That’s what I did and let me tell you your build quality is 1000% better then their kit, yours is much more rugged and solid than their kit which is basically just a collection of c-channel steel beams that all bolt together.

That is built better than my branded utility trailer! Cool build, that should give you many years of use.

As someone who has welded but definitely not a welder, I am surprised welding that close to rubber tires is not an issue.

One thing you can do to prevent rust on the inside of frames is drill a drain hole and use something like Boeshield T-9 or Framesaver, both of which leave a waxy coating to prevent rust. Might not work with the number of frame pieces/intersections you've got in this one, but it's something bicycle frame builders do.

Such a super useful trailer, sturdy clean & fast draining. The winch is a fabulously useful addition, quick, easy, no messing with electric that transforms near impossible singled handed loads to easy, safe & swift. Lovely job! Thank you for sharing!

Years ago I got a HArbor Freight 4x8 trailer and built a ramp for it (same design you have here) It cost me more in metal than what I paid for the trailer. Great design and build Jimmy . I enjoyed the video.

Nice project Jimmy! That expanded metal should be plenty strong enough especially with all the cross bracing you used. I really like the wooden angle adapters for the horizontal band saw. You are right about how making a perfect 45-degree corner for a frame is difficult. I hate to admit it, but I have even cut the angle the wrong way on an angle iron frame and couldn't use that piece. Didn't seem to be a terribly difficult mistake to make either.

When I was a kid we had a 6x8 tilt trailer for a riding lawnmower. We put a hand crank boat winch on it for the same effect.
