A brief update. collected my Beaudens solar power station from the courier depot today, this is the second solar generator sent, the last one went missing from the depot. Item came 80% charged and ran an EUG led projector for 100mins straight out of the box, item is now on charge collecting free power from the beaudens 100w solar panel, and has completed a bar in 45mins, 11c and bright sunny conditions..

So when these are plugged directly to a "solar generator" such as Jackery, the generator already has regulating circuitry to perform the function of a solar controller?

Would it make sense to put something like this on a car windshield inside of the car and then connect a fan to it to keep the car interior cooler on hot days? I even thought about putting a cooler in a car with some ice and using a small water pump connected to a radiator zip tied to a fan. With a try or will it be a total waste of time?

This is my first time actually looking at portable seller but I have a question. Instead of running them in series. Why is there not a splitter at the point at which it reaches whatever device whether or not it be a two prong 3-prong to 4 prong whatever? Seems to me it would be more feasible to do that rather than together so more power would have to go through each.
@jasonbrown467

is it possible that if you ran three of this exact model in series that there wouldnt be an issue? i know your solar knowledge is much higher than mine, but i assumed we are supposed to keep series panels matched, just like with batteries? awesome video like always. i wish i would have invested in foldable panels, my portable glass units might break, weigh a lot more and are not as easily stored and moved around as these foldable units.

At this point I have measured 6.5V at the solar panel. What I do wrong. Is it the setup or have i gotten a faulty panel.

I'm a Senior woman and don't understand a lot of this stuff. While I do understand HOW to connect in parallel and in series, I don't understand WHEN we should connect in each, or WHY? I wonder if you'd be willing to explain the difference in hooking up solar and when we should choose one connection over the other? Thanks!
@carlyellison8498
@carlyellison8498 4 жыл бұрын
This panel is 18V/ 5.55A. When you connect in series, the voltages add up. So two of these panels would output 36 volts but the amps would remain 5.55. If you connect in parallel, the amps add up. So two of these in parallel would be 18V/11.1A. Which to choose? Higher voltage (series) is easier to transmit with smaller gauge wire. Higher amps (parallel) requires thicker (and more expensive) wire. But if you shade a series-connected panel, the whole string of panels stops producing power. With parallel, shading of one panel only affects that panel, not any of the others. Also, keep in mind the solar charge controller that you will be plugging into. They have limits on volts and amps coming from the panels.
@carlyellison8498
@carlyellison8498 4 жыл бұрын
I have 4 big panels in two pairs. Each pair is connected in series, and the two pairs are connected in parallel. This helps with shading, and also works with my solar charge controller. If I connected them all in series, the volts would be too high. And the amps would be too high if I connected them all in parallel.

@HOBOTECH
@HOBOTECH 4 жыл бұрын
I'll add this topic to my list of "to-do" videos. Basically the rule is you want to run the highest voltage you can for your controller. In the case of power stations, you usually want to get as close to their max input voltage as you can. Most 12v panels output around 20v (some more, some less but this is a general rule). Panels in series add VOLTS, and panels in parallel add AMPS. So if you have a Jackery with a 30v limit you can't use two in series because the volts would be too high (20v+20v) so you use parallel. For the Bluetti the new one can take 68v which means you can run up to 3 panels in series. Almost all of these have a 10 amp input limit and most panels (generally) output about 5 amps. On the Jackery that means two panels in parallel, on the Bluetti it's also two in parallel -- but because it can also take 3 in series that means you can do a "series-parallel" of 6 panels!

I have a question, I have the Jackery 240 watt battery, and I just bought the Jackery 60 watt portable solar pack. In order to charge the battery, can I just plug it into the solar panel and set it out in the sun (shading the battery itself as much as possible) to charge, or do I need some other kind of connections between the solar panel and the battery? If this sounds confusing, it's because I am very confused right now. lol

What charge controller would you or any of the great commenters recommend? Would it be plugged in between the panel and whatever battery you’re charging?

Looks like this was already discontinued by them on Amazon. Which one do you reccomend now for charging the Bluetti AC200? Looks like there's several 120W folding panels for this price range now.

By the way, Did you ever make a video about tires for the roadtrek? On my last two trips that I have taken with my rear tires inflated @ 80 psi as recommended by the plate on the door jam, I have had a near blow out each trip. The rear axle tires recommended are too close to the limit of what they can handle. Actually 2 Lbs shy of the weight and right on the limit for pressure. What tires do you have on? Thanks.

Yes, I have made videos on my tires. I put over-sized 10 ply Cooper AT's on with a higher load rating than OEM. Rides better than ever. The OEM spec as you said was too low for the vehicle.

Thank you for this review. As a result I purchased two units. I'm aware that to run them in series it's positive to negative, but here is my question. Each of the units has one DC port which connects to one of the supplied cables, MC4, Anderson, etc. But if I connect let's say the two MC4s positive to negative and plug one of the 5.5mm ends into one of the units, how do I join them to plug them in series to a solar generator like a Jackery, etc? Thanks.

@HOBOTECH 4 жыл бұрын
Jackery 1000 you would use the Anderson on both panels to connect one leg in series (+ to - ) and the remaining Anderson + and - would go direct into the 1000 -- nothing else needed. For other Jackerys you need either MC4 or Anderson to 8mm since they only have an 8mm input.

@@HOBOTECH Love your videos! Thank you! We purchased two Beauden panels using your link and have a Goal Zero Yeti 400. I have plugged in a toaster, but that is about it!. To ensure I understand: To run the panels in series, I plug the cable 1's DC into panel one and the red anderson plug goes into cable 2 black negative anderson plug. The DC plug for cable 2 goes into panel 2. The goal zero would require an third cable to receive the negative anderson from cable 1 and the positive anderson from cable 2 and provide it to an 8mm DC input jack. ???
