In 2004 a friend and I were invited to the driver's meeting in Richmond, and we were just standing there in awe of what was going on as the drivers filed in. The only one who said anything to us was Kurt - he came over and talked to us for about 5 minutes until the meeting started. When the bad things began to happen with him I had trouble putting those together with the very calm and friendly guy who spent that time with us, and I'm glad he figured out how to make that character come to the front in his life.

I wish I could give this more than one "thumbs up". The maturity and humility that Kurt Busch has now juxtaposed to the hotrod firebrand he was in the beginning. I *hated* him in the early 2000s, even though I enjoyed watching him. He was a perfect "egomaniac foil" for the sport. Now, he is a genuine human who competes at a high level and realizes there are consequenses to one's decisions/actions. Great interview! *edited the "maturity and maturity" to "maturity and humility" that I *meant* to type, but the beers fogged my brain. ;-)

Kurt just says the name "Jimmy Spenser" Dale immediately starts to squirm in his chair! I'm actually really glad Dale is that way, I think it's a big part of what makes him the best at doing this podcast, unlike the normal Media type who's sole purpose is to get that "Gotcha moment" Another job well done for The DJD Team! 💪 As for the Busch Bros, I feel like they would have both benefited greatly if the "Bodine Mom" method had been used on them 😉

I will be dead honest. When Kurt won his championship, I was one of those who boo'd the monumental achievement few have done in NASCAR. I am of the NASCAR old school where a champion earned it. At that time, my opinion was he didn't earn it, but was entitled and deserved it. Not the Champions I have seen in NASCAR past. I honestly don't remember feeling so negative about a champion that way. Both of you are close to my age to and we all have as it said grown up. Today, I see Kurt and honestly am a fan of his. I hope he does well in his racing and can build to become the Champion his talent proved even back then, he can be but with the learned experience only taught by humility and maturity. That is the champion I'm will gladly support.

Kurt is an amazing racer, and I greatly respect his ability and drive. So good to see him maturing, as I met him back in the day and he was a complete ass. Good to see him come out the other side.
