God Bless her and may God Bless you sir! May God watch over you and Bless your Journey in Life. I was injured through Service to my Country and now I'm an outcast and ridiculed for my Disability. Tangabled necessities that allow me to move around outside my Property, have been moved away to the other side of my Garden, where I cannot get to them. I've been under Psychological torment for over 6 years, by the Community I Sacrificed sooo much for and I feel I never left that War Zone behind! My Family are dead and my dear Friends gave all and never returned Home. I think about them every day and I know they would be dismayed to say the least, as to how people are behaving towards PEOPLE with Disability. I've not spoken to Anyone Face to Face, Pre-Lockdown. I feel so alone and helpless, but fortunately my Country taught me Well enough to Re-Boot my Mind from such Thinking Errors. I have No One to Fight my Physical Battles now and nor would I ask, but my Mind is Mentally robust enough and I have witnessed enough, to face any Danger Civilian Life can throw at me. It's not the first time I would have looked Death in the Face, but I feel I Earnt the right to Live in a little piece of England, don't you think? The very first time I sought help, was when there were a gang of Youths hiding in my back garden on my Property; attempting to break in to a Neughbour's House and You know what the Police Officer said to me!?..."You should ask your Doctor to heighten your dose of Medication?" They didn't even check the Garden!? And to even know I am a Veteran!? Not to even contemplate that I've been Around enough, to not even at least check, where I said they were hiding!? To be honest I was Heartbroken and speechless. I remember thinking to myself, thank Logic I don't have to depend on these, sarcastically, Highly Trained Officers to watch my back!? I KNOW I can depend on ME! So, needless to say, I was back on the Old Block of NATO SEQUENCE OF ORDERS, Intelligence Gathering, Hearts and Minds, Proactive COMMS, Security Lights, Motion Detectors, C.C.T.V. Safty E.R.V. Two Personal Protection Dogs, I taught them myself in another Language. No Back Up calls and no relying on anyone! So, I know what I'm doing, I know where I am, I know where I stand (lol). I'm in control, at least to I.A. Drills. S.O.P.s never leave you, but must be flexible to achieve the Objective...to not allow your Mind to allow you to Live in fear. I don't hold any grudges, but I forgive and I will continue to forgive the ignorance of others. A small, but humble Difference to an already Evil World. If you've had the patience to reach this far, then y8u can sense that I dont get out much and I hope you take away something from this that prospers and brings good health to you and all your Love ones, in your Pilgrimage. No Soldier Left Behind hay!? Well this Soldier is still Standing! (lol) We Adapt, We overcome Adversity, with a Big Smile and a touch of Sarcasm. We keep Advancing! We all gave some, but some gave all! From an injured British War Veteran

I am from Australia 🇦🇺 & it's amazing the number of Restaurants, or Wedding Venues that Don't have Wheelchair Access or Disabled Toilets. I have No Use of my legs & am in a Wheelchair. You can't just try out new places. Some places even will tell you they are Wheelchair accessible & you find out when you get inside, settled at your table, & have ordered food, that there is No Disabled Toilet. I've often had to leave a Restaurant to find a toilet, then go back to the Restaurant. I make a mental note & never go back. It's disgusting the way people with Disabilities are treated. My money is just as good as anyone elses. People look at you & judge you before they get to know you, especially if your in a wheelchair. I will go somewhere with someone & they will ask the person I'm with what I want, "How Rude". I get angry when people assume people with disabilities aren't smart, or think they have the right to boss us around. I have a University Degree. I am almost 50 & still single with no children. I didn't expect my life would be like this. I wasn't born Disabled. I ended up with a disability in my 20's. I became paraplegic when I was 30. Most guys seem to not bother getting to know a woman in a wheelchair. They need to stop judging us by what's on the outside & see what's on the inside. I am a loving, loyal & decent person who adores children. I've always wanted to get married & have children. Unfortunately that has never happened. I would like to have the same experiences available to me as available to anyone else. We have feelings too.

You are telling me that this type of behaviour happens in restaurants and other places? I don't think they care for anything except money whether from a disabled person or not
@randjohnsondrums
@randjohnsondrums 2 ай бұрын
As a deafened adult I've dealt with discrimination similar to this for over 40 years. Imagine telling someone you are deaf and can't read lips and they still insist on verbally speaking to you as if they don't believe you because you can speak well and use your own voice. Deafened means you became post lingually deaf, not born deaf. I can't count how many times I've said this to someone violating my rights as a handicap person only to get a deer in the head light ignorant look on their stupid faces because they don't understand the law and ignore it.

Amen to that. Due to an extremely painful skin condition I've had all my life and extreme neuropathy and arthritis at now 41 years old I need a cane to walk and carry a 1911A1 with four, eight-round magazines. Size might also help, 6'2 320 lbs I get stares sometimes but not to the point of insults or outright discrimination. I'm guessing size and the fact I'm armed is a deterrent. , Such people, like all predators, seek out the weak. If they see someone seemingly weak and yet still have the means and ability to appreciably defend themselves and/or seems to be or known to be a viable threat to the predator via grievous injury or even death, especially if the prey is wounded, they'll fight that much harder, the predators will nine times out of ten will move on to easier prey. Karens, bullies, racists, sexists, and others who discriminate usually won't against those who are obviously are a threat or upon closer inspection determined to be a threat. Hungry enough, they might try you but even then not all out.

I got injured while in China and came back to singapore in a wheel chair. Thank God i was treated fairly. Some people stared, but that was all. They didnt say a single word. While a nice air stewardness pushed me all the way to where some of my horrified family members were waiting. (They didnt know i was injured)

I met this disabled woman who was in a wheelchair and she was an American Paralympian and was in the Games in Barcelona, Spain. When we finished talking, her cousin came over to see if there was a problem, thought I was being rude to her. She told him no and I was very nice and said she was the first Olympian I met. I didn't see a wheelchair, I saw a human and I treated her as such. That's how some wanted to be treated.

We will all eventually be helpless sooner or later. I'm glad that lady know the inner darkside of that individual. I see people mark me for walking crookedly. They don't know that I have scoliosis and endured many backpain every day. Do I like it? No and i have to explain to the uneducated. Then they have a deeper understanding. Usually I help the helpless and less fortunate than me. I don't laugh and ridicule their unnatural human qualities because we human have different level of flaw. No one is perfect but yet have unique attributes.

I had something like this happen to me about ten years ago. I am blind. A number of years ago I went on a vacation to visit a good friend of mine in another province. My friend wanted to try and understand what it would be like to be blind, so he asked me if we could dedicate one day of my visit to doing ordinary things while he was blindfolded, including dinner at a restaurant. The day before we were supposed to do the exercise, I called the restaurant we selected in order to give them a heads up. I explained that I was legitimately blind and would need assistance to/ from my table etc, but that my friend would be wearing a blindfold for academic reasons and may need help as well. While I myself have every right to go wherever I want, I felt that my friend was a different story and so I wanted to ask permission ahead of time to make sure that the staff were 100 percent okay with it. I would have happily accepted no for an answer and tried a different restaurant if need be. The manager who I spoke with told me it was okay, and asked what time we wanted to come in. I told him we wanted to come for dinner, and asked what time the restaurant closed. He told me they closed at 9:00. So at around 5:00 I called a cab, and the two of us were on our way to the restaurant, my friend finally becoming less nervous as we approached. But that was when everything changed. We arrived at the restaurant to find that it closed at 4:00, not 9:00 as the second-in-command manager had told me. We got back in the cab and went to a different restaurant, which was perfectly okay with our situation even on zero notice. My friend got the educational experience he wanted, and both of us had a pleasant evening, but still I was angry after having wasted $10 on a cab to a closed restaurant based on a deliberate lie. The next morning I called the original restaurant and spoke to the same man. He denied telling me that the joint was opened until 9:00 and played the religion card to make himself sound innocent. I told him I was angry, I phoned in advance out of respect for them and instead of having the balls to say no to what I was asking, they caused me to spend money on a taxi to go to a closed restaurant while my friend sat nervously in the back of the car trying to walk in my shoes. He then tried to deflect blame by asking why I didn't check their hours online, to which I responded: 'because I had no reason to believe that you were lying when you said you were opened until 9:00'. He then accused me of being a 'laughing' child prank caller and demanded to speak to my mother. I told him I was a grown man, that I was on vacation some 1500 miles away from home, and that I sure as hell wasn't laughing. Oh, and that I'd see him at the restaurant in ten minutes. When I arrived (with my friend's father as transportation/ support), the mood changed. This time the real owner was present, and the second manager had a hole lot of egg on his face. Humble pie just got added to the menu. Turns out he was just the kitchen manager, and apparently shouldn't have been answering the phone in the first place. I told them I thought the public would find this to be a fascinating story were they to read it in the paper. They fired the guy, treated us to free lunch and the owner implemented an emergency PR/ customer service training program. By the time I returned the following year, the restaurant had changed hands entirely.

So you place your index fingers on those keys, and then it's just a matter of memorizing which finger moves to press which key. Fluent sighted people don't look at their keys either. As the spouse of a wheelchair bound person, I was appalled by this entire thing. I would file an immediate complaint with the appropriate agencies and do everything I could to get the place closed. Totally unacceptable. As it is, we often see things that are wrong when it comes to providing a little consideration for handicapped people. Like, parking... often cars will park over the lines and block a portion of the cross hatched area between some spots that is intended to be an area to allow wheelchair ramps to open from the van and let the person in the wheelchair get out. Of course, this means we have to find another parking spot much further from the store/restaurant/etc. I have even seen cases where people park in the cross hatched space between parking spots intended to be used by wheelchair ramps totally blocking the ramp as if it were their personal parking space. People rarely hold a door so my spouse can get through on her wheelchair, or rush ahead of her into a partially filled elevator to take up enough space so there won't be room for a person in a wheelchair and she has to wait for the next one. In restaurants, it is quite common for there to be little to no room between tables and chairs for a wheelchair to navigate to a table and park at the table. My spouse's wheelchair gets continually banged by servers and others walking by as she tries to enjoy her meal. Handicapped people are PEOPLE first... they just have more challenges than the rest of us,... SO, think how you can make that person's life a little better, rather than making believe they aren't there.
