Our VW Crafter breaks system failed on the passenger side of the van causing the brake pads to wear out 10x faster we needed to replace the brake pads but then realised that the broken callipers needed replacing so we had to redo the front brake system

The problem is the hydraulic seal failing suddenly so a trolley jack is no better. Ok, they're more stable but the ground seems solid & nothing was being swung around so the extra stability wasn't needed. That said, a trolley jack is easier to use.

If you wedge the brake pedal down prior to removing the caliper it stops the fluid leaking out of the brake hose. Saves damaging the brake hose.

Yikes! Those nice alloys getting damaged by that impact socket. 🥺 Self-help videos doing brake repairs is never a rewarding thing, is it? Looking at the comments, there's always a better way to skin a cat. 😎 So here goes another 😁: Smart-ass mode on. Crimping hoses (and especially brake hoses) with Vice Grips is difficult, as you cannot really tell, how tight the crimp is. There is a fine line between restircting and actually damaging the hose. There are relatively inexpensive ratcheting hose clamps, that are gentle on the hoses. I actually have rubber plugs to put over the end of the brake line. The caliper bolts would love some anit-seize compound. And a torque wrench to tighten stuff to specified values is always a good idea for the novice before snapping stuff off. And please remember to change that brake juice frequently (at least every 24 months). It attracts water and that lowers the boiling point. If you ever had your brakes fail going down a lengthy mountain road... 😵 Smart-ass mode off. Cheers from mainland Europe! 🚐☁🍀
