Paul Grogan,one of the people who did some design work for the expansions,has a great channel called Gaming Rules where he talks about the game. The amount you can do and the variety is great. It is more complicated than Gloomhaven but I'm sure you'll like the theme and exploration of the game.

Yeah, less Mercs makes play faster and easier to manage which can lead to faster level up and more perk points to power up your mercs as well. The downside can be that some mercs are more powerful with more allies (think buffers, healers, general support types). That's why I think 3 is a good number if your playing alone, because it strikes a good balance. The great part with Gloomhaven though, is that you can switch your party size up on the fly if you want. You can add another if you aren't at 4 or you can set one aside. If you set one aside they will still keep their equipment and retirement goal etc. so you can bring them back in whenever without losing there progress. This also let's you experiment with different team setups as well. The downside here is that all items have limited availability so if you set aside a merc all their equipment will be unavailable for other mercs unless you sell it back to the shop.

@@89Games i see. Oks looking forward to your coverage here. Seems tactical enough that i may consider it for my next game over fire emblem engage/3-houses. Became more interested after i found out its based of a TTRPG boardgame. Made me want to look up the boardgame and consider buying it. I'm still finishing up triangle strategy. Haha.

@@TheRobversion1 haha, yeah these games these days take a long time to get through. But yeah, if your interested in the board game version of Gloomhaven, they actually just did a crowdfunding campaign for a bunch of new stuff incuding a 2nd edition of the board game. It has a lot of rebalancing and quality of life improvements so if you do end up wanting to get Gloomhaven, I'd wait for the 2nd edition. The digital version is base off the original so if you play that and then second edition in the TT version you can get the best of both worlds.

The TTRPG version is pricier than the video game too so i'll have to make sure 1st i have friends in real life who'd be interested to play it. otherwise, the switch version should be enough for me. looking forward to your other class breakdowns. would you say the game is hard for a casual to pick up, especially the board game? wondering if my wife can pick it up quickly enough. for reference, she already found diablo 3 complicated. haha.

@@TheRobversion1 that's a really good question. So, the board game can be a little hard getting started, but it's very much a coop game and the rules encourage players to make their own decision in areas the rules might be ambiguous. In my group, we actually started with Jaws of the Lion which is a prequel to Gloomhaven. The game itself was made after og gloomhaven and includes a very nice tutorial over something like 4 or 5 scenarios that can really help casual gamers get into it. I highly recommend it, plus you can pick it at places like Walmart for $50 so it's much less of an investment if you aren't sure. It also includes a lot of packaging and other updates that make it easier to set up. Plus the classes in it are fully compatible with og gloomhaven too! My wife was never a big gamer, but a few years back we started playing d&d with my cousin and his wife and my wife really enjoyed it. Eventually we moved onto Jaws of the Lion and then gloomhaven proper, and she is really into it. So that's my long version of my wife likes it so yours might too lol.

I don't, unfortunately. The best info I can find is that it does have cross play between the steam and epic versions and between PC and macs. So that said it may have cross play with consoles, but I don't know.

Hey! just wanted to get back with you with some new info. Yes, Gloomhaven will be cross platform between all consoles and PC. This was confirmed by both the developer Twin Sails and Cephalofair.

That is an excellent question, and I'm trying to have a video on that out by tomorrow. The short version, its absolutely fine. The lighting effects aren't as good as on pc, likely a performance necessity on the Switch hardware, but otherwise I'm happy with it.

According to the Nintendo eshop page for Gloomhaven, no it doesn't support more than one player outside of playing online, unfortunately.

Don't think they would want that for this game. In the board game, while it's cooperative, there is supposed to be very limited information passed between the cooperating players about what cards are being played beforehand. Obviously that goes out the window if one person is playing multiple characters but I think they'd want to preserve that multiplayer feeling when it's there.
