This was a really interesting video. As a huge Monkey Ball fan, I've played both of these games a lot over the years and this got me thinking about the games and level designs in ways that I've never really considered before, with the discussion of 'steaks'. Really great job! You deserve a ton more subs.

this was an entertaining video thanks for making it! i disagree about the stakes thing though, what were the stakes in monkey ball 1? the only thing to work towards in 1 was seeing a new stage which is why challenge mode in smb2 covers that since the reward is the same (seeing new stages). getting to that gamecube shaped stage in smb2 legit was probably the hardest videogame thing ive ever done. i'm sure you can imagine how tense challenge mode was trying to get to that stage, so every death was definitely a huge thing. i agree with most everything else though and since arthropod and launchers the two worst stages ever exist in smb2 i definitely see where you're coming from.

Shoot I have to remember what I even said in the video, it’s been a while haha. Basically stakes/having lives works better in MB1 due to its overall simplistic course design, whereas 2’s challenge mode is a little less approachable, since that game’s courses are far more elaborate on the whole, which is good! Although to me they are more enjoyable in the story mode where you can really throw all your ideas at the wall to see what works, whereas if you had unlimited lives in MB1 I feel it would be too forgiving. Theoretically challenge mode in 2 is perfectly fine if you’re really good at the game, which I suppose is sort of Monkey Ball’s whole appeal haha.
