Thank you Rinpoche. I did not know that I can actually change my past karma. I thought you can only make more good to try to dilute the bad karma. I thought that "purifying" was just like paving over a rough road where the bad road still exists but is made better. I learned that karma is primarily dependent on my motivation and can change very rapidly. I especially like your connection to the motivation behind things like donating money and how based on my motivation I could be creating either good or bad karma. ( Or neutral karma). Once again, thanks for your many blessings. Namaste :-)

Thank you Tsem Rinpoche, it was great explanation and teaching about karma and mindstream which explained in a simplistic way. There are three pathways which was negative karma, positive karma and neutral karma. Which karma that we will get was depends on our motivations. Our motivation depends on our knowledge, habituation and practice. We can change its every moment, so we had to always keep a good motivation . Since we had a good karma in this life, so that we can born into higher realm in the future life. If we keep a good guru devotion or samaya, it also means we had a good karma. Everyday we need to make sure we are being happy, thinking positively and keep doing positive activities, so we will stay at the right track. The best way to get close with good karma is you engaged into dharma, when u study dharma and practice it, u will get a lot of merits too. Tsem Rinpoche also mentioned that protector practice can help us to eliminate our inner and outer obstacle to support us to do works that would beneficial to others. Instead, when negative karma opens, it will become laziness, unwilling to change and keep blame. So, we must always keep us into a positive thinking, to avoided from negative karma.

Woah. I shall proceed to share my honest thoughts. Anyone who reads this, please feel free to correct me/add new observations. Firstly, This is the kind of class I always wanted to attend but never could. Not because I enjoyed it, but because how important it is for everyone, especially children to be made aware of this.The two main things I got out of this were namely - the vitality of INTENT, and the courage to overcome the nastiest facets of your own personality. It’s sort of like ripping you a new one all the time, but then again, you have to AND sincerely want to or the mold ( of samsara) will continue to cover you. For some reason a scene from one of my fave authors - C.S Lewis’s book - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Narnia) comes to mind. In that scene, the rude and bratty and downright unpleasant Eustace is transformed into a dragon (seen as negative-beastly) due to a curse. Instead of being mean and hating, him, (like he had been to them), his cousins Edmund and Lucy (who were more enlightened) treated him with compassion and understanding - which lead to a marked change in his attitude, ultimately helping him ‘understand’ his past mistakes and develop compassion. In the end, after observing his humility, Aslan (guru) then proceeds to rip of the skin of the beast off of him, uncovering the boy hidden deep beneath, safe and secure. A Lama, or any great spiritual teacher is so very vital. They have to ability to correct delusions, illusions and deliver a sharp AND timely reality check. The thing is, in the life outside of the sangha, the lack of knowledge is the greatest obstacle. Many people are lead astray so very easily in the name of fake gurus, and other so-called experts. Lack of knowledge then leads to more oppression, suppression, repression, delusion and ultimately hatred and intentional ignorance. I have to admit, I personally felt a bit shaken, since I have not exactly been a ‘saintly’ person where my own problematic side concerned, and those arose out of anger/ ignorance and negativity. But, the point is to change and desire positive change, right? So if you try to sugarcoat/blame it on what the circumstances were you won’t be able to chance at all as you are deluding yourself again. Karma arises from intent, and that I fully believe in. I mean, of course there are lives, but if you become aware (even if a little) - then you should not waste time. I myself wasted so much time, did wrong things and yes even if I deeply regret those things, it won’t change the past. The only way to make reparations is to change the present and sow positive seeds for the future. Upon watching this and another teaching of his Eminence, I found that aside from mantras, visualizing healing your parents, your friends and even your enemies helps even more. Visualizing taking their problems, and negativity, and sincerely wanting to carry it for them. I mean, if you have bad stuff happen to you , that means it was, ultimately your fault. So, only you can fix it. Needless to say the intent was pure.(LOL) Cos, you can do this the hard way…or the REAL hard way. In the end, we are, after all responsible for our own salvation. Sorry for the long commentary. I am one of ‘must review’ people. If efforts were made to teach and reach, reviewing is a must! Please feel free to add on! Thankyou Your Eminence for this brain and soul nutrition! I shall try my best to spread and practice this.

Dear Rinpoche, Thank you. Everything you related about Karma makes sense. However, there is one simple question that is confusing me: Karma as we know it: We do good we get good, we do bad we get bad... basically this is some kind of law, just like d law of gravity; therefore d law even could be: We do good we get bad, We do bad we get good.... D question here is how, when and by whom was d law of Karma designed & put into force?... I hope u will someday give a teaching on this subject too.

Following is a suggestion from the book titled Ztingar - regarding where we come from, why we are here, who we are and to where we go and come back from... “I’d like to finish today’s lesson by trying to answer any questions that you may have,” declares a crackly, squeaky voice--the vibrant patterns flicker in perfect unison with the words. “How about you, Miss McPigstyle? . . . You look like you’ve got a pile of questions to ask!” “Hehehe. . . Yes I do Mister Gang-Gang!” she answers. “How do we know if we have good or bad karma?” “We can get some idea simply by looking at the general state of our life at any given moment . . . such as whether or not we’re truly happy,” answers the voice of Mr Gang-Gang cheerfully. “But because all Life is constantly changing for the better, the worse, or somewhere in-between, it’s never really possible to be certain, is it? . . . However, just as I’ve already mentioned, there is a way to help us control our karma and even change it, which I’m very much looking forward to sharing with you in the next few days. Thank you Miss McPigstyle. Now, Mister Bullcow, I can see by the keen look of enthusiasm on your face that you also have a question or two.” “Yes I do!” he replies in a rather deep sounding voice, “How does this all fit in with what you mentioned the other day about the little babies? . . . I mean to say, what could they have possibly ever done to make any bad deeds or karma as you call it?” “Well to answer that truthfully for you Mister Bullcow,” Mr Gang-Gang replies enthusiastically, “firstly I need to inform you that I personally believe we’re all the same age, but are born at different intervals . . . In other words that our lives don’t start when we’re born . . . nor end when we die.” “I don’t believe I quite get what you mean!” answers Mr Bullcow. “How in the world have you managed to come to that conclusion?” “By observing things as they truly are,” explains Mr Gang-Gang confidently, “anybody can do it if they’re willing to open up their minds and take a good, honest look around. The truth is, most things that appear to start and end don’t really start and end at all . . . they just move in and out of being present! Let’s take all of the four seasons, or a day and a night for instance. They don’t ever actually come to a halt and stop in themselves. . . The land simply revolves in and out of them over and over again. . . So, when everything’s said and done, there’s only ever been one single day . . . one night . . . one winter . . . one spring . . . one summer and one autumn . . . and since this is the way of nature and we’re all part of nature’s way . . . then it makes perfect sense to me that our lives follow along the same path.” “Strike me pink!” cries a dominant sounding voice from a long way off in the distance. “I ain’t nevar even heard o’ such a thing . . . are ya sure about all o’ this matey?” “As sure as I can be,” replies Mr Gang-Gang. “And just as sure as I am that Life itself has no beginning or end. Not only that, I also believe our bodies are small replicas of the land we stand upon and our spirits are small copies of the Universal Life Force.” “Hehehehehehe . . . for goodness, sake!” a female voice gasps with an incredulous laugh. “I’m being very serious!” says Mr Gang-Gang insistently, “quite serious indeed! . . . And the reason I believe this is once again a result of my observations over the years. For example, we have several layers of skin just like the Earth’s crust . . . feathers and hairs that grow like grass and trees upon the Earth’s surface . . . veins and arteries beneath our skin that act like underground rivers and streams that run beneath the Earth’s surface . . . flesh like soil and bone like rock. A great percentage of the Earth is water and liquid just like our body . . . and beneath the ground is a substance called lava, which is hot and red like our blood. . . Now and then the ground splits open and out spurts lava in a similar way to how our body bleeds whenever our skin breaks, or we grow lumps that can sometimes build up pressure and erupt in a similar way to how volcanic fire mountains do. We can also experience little tremors on our skin and sometimes even shake and tremble like the ground does. Our body has limitations that prevent it from jumping forwards or backwards in time . . . the same limitations that determine how long it will keep functioning before it wears out . . . after which it returns to the ground. From there it becomes nourishment to support the food chain that’s needed to sustain new life. . . Did any of you know that the Earth never grows any larger in content no matter how many things continuously live and die on it?” “Bloody hell!” blurts out another voice. “No, no I didn’t know that at all mate! . . . That’s flamin’ amazin’, ain’t it?” “It IS amazing!” agrees Mr Gang-Gang excitedly. “And it’s all to do with Nature’s incredible process of recycling matter. A very similar situation also applies to our spirit . . . except there’s a big difference . . . and that’s because our spirit is a copy of the great, Universal Life Force and therefore doesn’t share the same limitations as our body. For example . . . even though we can’t take our body back to when it was a baby, we are able to remember certain things and sometimes re-experience them as if they were happening right now. As a matter of fact, our imagination knows no boundaries. We can even go to places, do things and experience events in our mind that our body would never be able to physically endure.” “How absolutely fascinating!” says the voice belonging to Miss McPigstyle. “Whoever would have thought all that?” “What happens when we die then?” asks someone else. “Generally speaking . . . after each successive physical manifestation is completed and our body can no longer function for us,” explains Mr Gang-Gang, “our spirit simply separates from it and reverts back into the surrounding universal Life Force from which it came. There it will remain re-energizing itself until it’s time to return and recreate its next physical manifestation. In some respects, our life force is a bit like the water in the Ballah, or as some prefer to call it . . . the ocean. In other words, it’s forever coming and going.” “I see.” says the deeper voice. “Because our karma content is recorded within our Life Force, it doesn’t disintegrate with the body, but rather carries over from one physical existence to the next one, constantly determining what our future circumstances are going to be each time. This includes where and when we are born, the family we’re born into, the conditions we have to live under, the opportunities we do or do not receive and so on and so forth. It also determines our health and how well we cope with things during our journey through each successive physical manifestation. No matter when it is or what, who or where we are, it’s everything we think, say and do that’s continually shaping and reshaping our own present and future destiny. In other words, for better or for worse, we are each in complete control and therefore totally responsible for it ourselves. And this is also why we must be cautious when making assumptions, or when information is relayed to us from others . . . particularly when it’s about someone else. If we believe it without first verifying that it’s actually correct and it turns out to be untrue, we would automatically be as guilty of making the bad karma as the one who gave us the wrong information in the first place. It doesn’t matter how much good we’ve done, one bad enough deed could have the potential to seriously damage or even completely contaminate our hard-earned good fortune in an instant. It’s a possible outcome that can very easily happen to us in a similar way to how a raging fire can damage or destroy even the most beautiful of forests.”

Thank you for the teaching. Is an accident always seen as the result of bad karma? Don’t bad things happen to people with good karma? I’m just learning buddhism and it is helping me get out of years of negative thinking patterns and suffering and unhappiness. I didn’t understand a lot of the names of practices he talked about. Any one know a good place to learn near Portland?

Hi JW1, thank you for watching the video. Rejoice that Buddhism benefitted you.Karma belongs to all beings which is the root cause of the happiness, sorrow and suffering. Therefore, the consequences of a good or a bad deed a person does, would solely be his.Good deeds (Beneficial Karama) give results (Anisamsa) like prosperity, health and long life. Bad deeds (Detrimental Karma) give results (Adinaya) like misery, poverty, illness and a short life span. For more detailed teaching about Karma, do check out Rinpoche's blog at the following link : www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/external-article/karma-vipaka-actions-their-results-and-the-%e2%80%98three-planes-of-existence%e2%80%99. In fact Rinpoche's blog (www.tsemrinpoche.com) is a virtual classroom for students all around the world who wish to learn about Buddhism to access to Buddhist teachings from where ever they may be. Hope you'll find blog beneficial.

What is the protector that Tsem Tulku Rinpoche said is the Ganden Lama's Protector? I did not catch the name? Can a Lama with whom you have great faith influence your circumstance, like saying my Lama send this situation for me to experience?

After observing the Dharma lesson on Karma, I am curious to know, does the reddish orange colors, which are prevalent throughout the decorum and attire worn by Monk Tsem Rinpoche and other Monks I have observed, have any specific significance?
@wanwaimeng
@wanwaimeng 9 жыл бұрын
Red is for control, subduing a wild mind so that it is suitable to learn and practice the dharma, yellow is known to relate to growth in all things spiritual. These are common meanings of the colours in Buddhism. I am not exactly sure if the colours of the robe correspond to the same meaning. The robes that was specified by Buddha Shakyamuni was made of patches of clothes, and all patched up, some of the pieces of clothing they can even take from people who have passed away as a reminder of death and impermanence so I have read.

The Yellow and Red colors are supposedly the colors that Buddha's robes were. Also, the Dalai Lama wears these colors too. They kind of signify the thriftiness of yellow instead of a rich blue or royal purple.

Hello Rinpoche: today, I had have fear to make a good deed, because I had fear, that someone could kill me may be because of this good action. But I feel , this was completely wrong, even I can understand me and I have also take care of myself. My body is too pressures, to risk it. To change the negative Karma, you said something like: demanding your Samajas?? I couldn't understand the pronoun cation very well. What does it mean? Could you explain me to this or any of your qualified students. I feel, this would help me a lot, thanks.

Hello there. A good action cannot have a negative result. If u did a good action and then later u were hurt, it is not from that good action, it was from a previous negative action. Samaya is the good relationship between you and your spiritual teacher. The best way to take care of our bodies is to do good actions :)

John Shakn No, there’s no controversy as far as I know. His Holiness the Dalai Lama even visited the Dharma protector Setrap’s chapel in Gaden Shartse Monastery, South India to personally consecrate and bless the Lord Setrap chapel. For the rest of Lord Setrap history, you may want to read this www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/great-lamas-masters/dalai-lama-blesses-setrap-chapel-in-gaden-monastery.html

Would killing Hitler before he killed millions be bad Karma ? How can someone reap the Karma of newly invented technology that they can not have sown previously as that tech did not even exist ? The Buddhists (even those who had achieved Nirvana) were wiped out in India by Muslim invasions; was that a result of Karma or just the result of an unrealistic overly passive dogma ? Karma is the one area of Buddhism a lot choose to omit as it raises so much controversy.....

As I know... there are different types of karma. There's individual karma and group karma. Besides that, karma topic itself is vast. I would suggest you to read Lamrim such the the one written by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, it was based on a discourse given by Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche.

what about ppl with psychosis or / and schizophrenia , are they demon possessed or is it like you have described a result of harmful practices towards others or yourself ? or is it maybe both ( like someone who has done black magic on you )
@gohjacinta28

As from my understanding, these two problems (psychosis or / schizophrenia and black magic) stems from karma. This is why, in BUddhism, accepting and understanding the working of karma is fundamental in Buddhism.

I am trying to show Egyptism connection or simulates; they assume you spiritually alive; others lives are or non-modern humans.i.e Lilith babies and demon offspring hybrid; Mindstream (citta-santāna) in Buddhist philosophy is the moment-to-moment continuum (Sanskrit: saṃtāna) of awareness which provides a continuity from one life to another. The concept developed in later Yogacara, to avoid reification of the ālaya-vijñāna.

Dear Sir , Perhaps 2500 years ago there was a great man said to be named as Mr Siddharta perhaps had a realization on the nature of human suffering and he tried to explain and share it to mankind . ... and SAID TO BE there was a quotation in formal Buddhism Text itself that before Mr Siddharta passed away , he was quoted saying that " Let My Teaching Be Your Teacher "...together with another quotation SAID TO BE quote " Believe Nothing No Matter What You Hear Or Read , Even If I Have Said It , Unless It Agrees With Your Own Reason and Common Sense " ...... With these message , is common sense his realization is just like an gossip , a rumors and just a mere information not even to be accepted as a guide for own exploration ....he was never recorded saying " Let Your Teacher Teach My Teaching ".........so why so many Buddhist monk claimed as Buddhist Teacher teaching Buddhism based on what they know? But soon after Mr Siddharta’s death and until today , there are millions of people with an ordinary mind , feeding on his information transforming into a knowledge , rituals , practices , creating into various culture / traditions and even benefited from it........calling themselves to be a Buddhist Teacher / Master with various title and recognition , even claiming to reach a high level of realization .....TEACHING Buddhism itself instead of being just a reporter......... . Mr Siddharta ‘s explanation perhaps is like a paintings on the wall and lets people explore it within themselves without any people trying to be smart and explaining something with their ordinary minds . Buddhist Teachers had transformed perhaps the greatest discovery of mankind into a factor causing human to continue suffering of confusion for thousands of years and perhaps even thousands more to come .....and now their afford is supported by another group of in formal studies known as Buddhist Scholar. If Buddhist Organization hold on text that said to be Mr Siddharta words as referral , then NO ONE HAVE THE RIGHT TO TEACH BUDDHISM ..... Mr Siddharta's explanation should be served as just a mere information for own exploration of own existence and now millions of people are taking advantage by teaching it ... they became the teacher instead of the "teaching" of Mr Siddharta . Buddhism perhaps NEVER was a form of Knowledge.…..So HOW COULD ANYONE TEACH IF BUDDHISM IS NOT A FORM OF KNOWLEDGE ?..... I am deeply concern of the way Buddhism is transforming . This has to be stopped . I have now moved from sharing my personal views into a more challenging role as to start a movement to spread awareness of Buddhism. This movement is named " AWAKENING TO BUDDHISM" with only one simple objective is to spread awareness to people that Buddhism is all about own exploration to the nature of own existence WITHOUT any interference from anyone with NO REFERRAL . Any information even from Mr Siddharta should be accepted as a mere information NOT even as a guide for own exploration WITHOUT any teaching , guidance or explanation from anyone . No teaching , no rituals , no worshipping , no referral , no guidance . Everyone is equal , Everyone is learning and no one is giving talks or teaching or guiding . For further explanation kindly email the undersigned . One Historian said “ If Buddha come back , He will see all he rejected now his follower put him in that place “. Please DO NOT be part of perhaps greatest misinterpretation of mankind . We must creates awareness and let people have the chance to explore themselves . What is teach to them is always a knowledge , what is explored perhaps will lead to realization and perhaps that is Mr Siddharta’s wish . If you are in same mind , PLEASE SHARE THIS as facebook had disabled our account many times and we believe this will happens again.USE EMAIL to contact us . Anyone could start this movement within their capacity holding on a common objective with a common movement brand name .No one is leading this movement . We attribute this noble movement to Mr Siddharta . If you are of same mind , kindly furnish us any update . We are serious and sincere in this movement . Thanks Ee Chuan Seng Malaysia. Brilliant. I prefer to look at it in this way. In physic, if we just change an element and the whole result will be different. hence it's flexible. Just like karma. Hence, to achieve the result that we wanted, just put in the elements that will help us to gain the result we wanted.

jessie james Yes it is you are right. We all understand it intellectually usually, however sometimes in certain situations, we act as if karma does not apply. Result is we create negative karma to endure in the future. - It is due to one's habituation from our deep imprints from countless lifetimes, hence we need to hold our refuge vows and commitments and practice to overcome lifetimes of habituations and negative imprints. Namaste :-)
