You guys should do some specific uploads on aquarium myth-busting. Mr. Strohmeyer certainly has compiled decades of knowledge to help with that. The beef heart misperception was on point. I know a lot of hobbyists and KZfaqrs swear by homemade Discus Beefheart recipes. Thanks AAP!

Thanks for sharing!! I watched every KZfaq video on lowering PH and nobody explains how to stabilize a lower PH . That’s for the tip on what to look for while stabilizing a lower ph. Big thank you!!!

Good one mate. Please can i ask your advice. I had 4 discus for over 6 months without having any crisis. 3 days ago i end up buying another 2 ( one large and other one medium ). It was intended for my coffee table aquarium but it was delayed with some troubles. My tank is not that big 100 gln. I end up adding this two and a wood with some plants. I was so stupid to think only one or two days not taking things seriously. I noticed they were not moving much , the new two fish not eating well or didt eat at all . 10am i looked at the tank they were alive but when i got back 1pm after church 3 out of 4 old one died. I think it very obvious why they died but do you think anything more than that ? Any advise yiu can give as those two new fish still not eating

Sounds like the water either lost oxygen or it turned toxic. I would read your parameters.

Purigen is a great product, but be aware that Purigen (especially when used in a reactor) can and does negatively affect the Redox balance of an aquarium so measure to counter act this such as fresh AAP Wonder Shells should be employed

Hi great vedio Just please help me . I have 240 L inside I have stendker discus 8 fishes they are in the same size of yours . I have in this tank 3 filters FX 6 fluval Juwel internal filter Eheim experience 250. I am planing to add 2 fish so total will be 10. My question will 240 L be ok when 10 discus grow in full size. Please note I do not have lot of decoration only I have two artficial plants 18 CM long, I use Easy life benficial bacteria Easy life filter medium Aqua safe tetra Easy balance tetra I feed 3 times beef heart. Please give me your opinion? Note I clean filters as follow FX 6 every 3 month EHEIM EVERY 2 Month Juwel internal filter every month Water change weekly 10 % and monthly 30% My fish is stendker tap water raised Thanks

That's certainly not enough water changes.for stendker's shoot for 50% a week & rotate filter maintenance so your cleaning one every 2 weeks.stendkers are a lot less delicate than Asian or wild fish but 10% a week is nowhere near enough.

Beef heart is good for discus because discus naturally prey on cattle in the wild.

Yep you're correct, When cattle wade into rivers of SA containing Discus, they feed like piranha on the cattle

We dont agree with this method. We do water changes at about 20 ppm nitrate and mainten electrolytes and other things mentioned in the video.

This was not a good video. While stable conditions were stressed there were things stated that are incorrect. They aren’t 5.0-6.0 ph. They’re more like 5.8-6.6 ph. And when they’re sick you’ll most likely raise the temperature because the micro-organisms can handle the high heat like the discus can.

Thanks for your feedback... I understand what your saying, but your basically stating what I say you don't have to do, which is keep lower pH and your right... somewhere around 6.0-6.5 is more typical (the more popular passed around numbers, but that's the problem I'm trying to address). If I take this logic though, 5.0 wouldn't been wrong considering their Amazon natural environment can get to 4.0. I just watched a very interesting video about this. And there are reports that beeding happens more successfully in these lower pH. And yes, heat is one treatment option. I talked more about prevention.

Good points AAP. I actually found through my experience & research that I could keep Discus quite successfully at pH of 6.5 to 7.0, but I did not chase pH either (I worried more about mineral Cations that were often deprived in Amazon Biotopes)
