In this video Nate ( / treehousenate ) brings us a high level overview of a major brewhouse upgrade project we are currently undertaking.
To get a new lauter tun and kettle into the building, we had to cut hole in the roof. It was quite the impressive undertaking and it is captured here.
This upgrade is almost four years in the making and will not only enable us to make more beer faster, it will do so with a significantly improved process from a wish list we have been dreaming about for years. These upgrades will result in measurable quality gains across our beverage line.
Check it out, and don't forget to subscribe! :)

Few questions about why we didn't just install a larger brewhouse - the answer is flexibility. 60 BBLS is the perfect size for us, enabling us to brew what we want when we want... everything from Scotch Ale to Triple IPA to 40 Plato Barrel Aged Stout. Any larger and we would lose a whole bunch of that. We've been on a 30 or 60-bbl brewhouse now for over 8 years. It's what we know and what we love so we're all in on this setup, literally.

Small suggestion. For food and packaging type of locations. Cutting with a conventional fiber disk is ill advised. Plasma torch or cut off disk with metal based diamond cutter is much preferred. Automation nerd troubleshooting metal detectors and finding lots of dust or particles stuck underneath the belt. Just days after watching fabricators chopping and grinding near by. Just some thoughts and potential frustration curbing. Not that it'll eliminate those problems. But containing the schmoo somehow would be awesome. Grinding dust can attach and cause stainless to rust over time too.

Fantastic upgrade! I wondered when I saw the first cores cut in the floor and tried to get it out of you but you played coy!! Just enjoyed a quad shot cherry vanilla while watching. Amazing where you are only 10 years in!! Appreciate all you and your team does. Cheers from Uxbridge.

2 questions: 1. What ultimately lead you to a 2nd brew house vs adding a pre-run tank between the lauter and boil kettle? 2. What kind of logistical/ timing challenges do you think you will face when running both kettles with only one whirlpool and mash tun? (ie variations in mash and boil times, CIP requirements post KO, etc.) Thanks!

Great upgrade! Cheers! So with this setup you are able to skip the night shift and brew the same amount in just 2 shifts?
@treehousebrewco
@treehousebrewco Жыл бұрын
We doubled our throughput, but skipping the night shift would be ill-advised for the time being primarily because of batch continuity. We often brew double, triple, and quadruple batches and it enables us other brewing options like long boil and double mash stout.

Hello! Just curious why wouldn’t you make like a larger brewhouse instead of doing more batches in order to fill one FV? 😊 but i notice that big breweries have to double or quadruple batch in order to fill an fv….
@treehousebrewco
@treehousebrewco Жыл бұрын
Because 60 bbl allows maximum flexibility for us. Not every batch wants to be 120 or 180 or 240 bbls. Variety.
@stuker69

@@treehousebrewco Is it not easier to brew 1/4 or 1/2 batch using a 240bbl system rather brewing 4x using a 60bbl system? :)
@GravelRacer1
@GravelRacer1 Жыл бұрын
Why does the lauter tun take two hours? Is it due to the volume of the tun so it takes a long time. The depth of the mash should be similar when comparing 15bbl to 60bbl . About 2 to 3 feet deep so I would think they would both take about an hour.
@treehousebrewco
@treehousebrewco Жыл бұрын
we have found between 110-130 minutes is best for us. I have never lautered in 60 minutes regardless of volume.
