Some of the stuff that comes out of people's mouths and keyboards is pretty bewildering lol. There's a few good and versatile ways to do things right, and a lot of trendy things that don't.

Gotta call out the dumb comments I see from time to time lol, there's an experience-based reason why some things are done/ used the way they are. Consoomers keep seething.

I've only ever heard one argument for the red dot magnifier combo over a fixed optic /lvpo. Eye box issues with shooting from awkward positions. It was from a competition shooter so I don't know how much real world application it would have. Unrelated.. cute cat.
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary 14 күн бұрын
Yeah totally different world with competition, for combat shooting and combat rifles, needs to be a utilitarian no bs/ kiss kind of setup, so a singular durable primary optic with variable combat application is the name of the game (on top of having backup irons). She's adorabus sometimes lol, other times an insufferable diva LOL :D

I’ve broken every single pressure switch I’ve ever had. I also broke very QD cup I ever had, I was running around on target one night tryna take SSC pics and clamping my rifle to me with my arms cus those stupid QD cups broke on me a second time. As far as red dot+ magnifier combo inferior to fixed magnified optic, I agree in the sense of broad strokes military-use. The average person would be better served with a simple, fixed optic, show there holds, and sent off, good to go, The mag+dot combo caught on because fixed power optics aren’t really usable under NODS as opposed to an EOTECH, then magnifiers came along trying to get more capability out of those optics.
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary 14 күн бұрын
Yep exactly, have have several pads fail in the past while working, and QD's just don't cut the mustard. Absolutely, people would be better served using an RCO with a good reticle and partial tree (the ACSS Aurora is my all time favorite) that they can use in versatility. Trying to shoot a target at 300 with a mag+dot sucks major balls lol. You're familiar with the "focal overlay" technique right ;) there's ways to work around it apart from passive aiming (but ofc if it's direct peer or near peer you ain't using any lasers or illum if the enemy can see them too lol). I'm going to do a poll and ask people if they have NODs to see what the statistics of my subs and responses are, good metric to see with how the applicability of that setup is even a consideration (I still hate mag+dot combo lol but I digress).
@ViktoriousDead
@ViktoriousDead 14 күн бұрын
@@DJTheMetalheadMercenary I should say, EOTECH’s, etc… are far superior under nods, there’s always ways around it but when you’re getting shot at…. Easier is better. I’ve got enough time on an Eotech+magnifier where shooting out to 500m-ish isn’t bad, the thing about optics is, aside from durability there is no real objective truth, because beauty is quite literally in the eye of the beholder (shooter?) For speed of training and usability, certain optics are better for general public, but trying to say “x is better than Z all the time” doesn’t really pan out in the way of optics. Some of the best “bench rest” shooters I’ve ever known were stupid accurate with dovetail-blade sights, but you can’t really say that’s better than a red dot. Just as someone with majority of their training on an ACOG might find red-dot magnifier optic combo more difficult to use, or vice versa when the reality is whatever your main training time goes to is what the shooter is gonna be proficient with. I think most people would be surprised how common it is for people to totally negate using optics at all in a gunfight.
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary 14 күн бұрын
@@ViktoriousDead Indeed! Oh yeah when a gunfight pops off, it is a lot of directional suppressive and area fire, that is the great majority for sure. Been using irons my whole life, but a combo of RCO, Holos, and some mag+dot professionally for a long while, still have to revert to the RCO's as they are the most versatile (and generally more durable) for combat conditions-- while I very much understand and have used holos and dots in high risk/ non-permissive zones, they have serious limitations that put them in much more close range facilities/ application overall. Experiences will vary of course, but even with the concrete jungle I prefer and recommend the RCO.
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary 14 күн бұрын
@@ViktoriousDead I'll also caveat that by saying some dots like the M68 CCO are extremely tough, but it sucked to use in combat lol. Also with mag+dot combos, alluding to the prior, you're introducing more points of failure with your setup, which is a- why we have backups and seeing people without them are wrong lol, and b- there's no resupply if all hell breaks loose/ SHTF and there is no logistics chain to get a replacement. Just my two cents *shrug.

I use the Gear Aid Camoform wrap, that stuff is great (it does have the tiniest bit of latex in it so just be mindful if you're allergic or not). RCO's are one of the best options, LPVO is 2nd in my book of practical choices heheh. Lol you too bud!!!

Sigh, these folks are going to make me put my grumpy gruntpa cap on again. Their heads would f'ing explode if they ever saw my A2 with the carry handle scope or several of my AKs with side rail mounted scopes.... On the magnified vs. RDS. I went with an RDS at the last AK 2-gun match I competed in just to gain some data points on that kinda of optic. I got data all right and you pegged some of them. I'm going back to either a POSP or a 1-6x LVPO for my next one. There were two stages both involving 100 plus yard stages where I needed the magnification and/or precision. Not a big fan of lights on most of my weapons with the sole exceptions of my bump in the night long arms. Any kind of visible light is going to attract fire, which is why light discipline was preached pretty heavily at us. For our time frame it was more about not attracting crew served indirect fire... ( That training scar is most likely why I don't like lights on my weapons...). QD mounts: Neutral. I think I only have three weapons that have them and only one is heavy enough for me to worry about what you are talking about. I will keep my eyes out for it happening though. Thanks for the information on that topic. Too many folks get their information through "inbred" flat range training paid influencers that couldn't pour liquid waste out of a boot with written instructions and a demonstration.
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary 12 күн бұрын
Bingo!!! Heheh yeah bud ;) If I don't need/ want the light on, easy peasy unscrew/ loosen the mount and take it off and stow it, no harm no foul. With lightcap no discharge risk either (and pressure pads are dumb and break easily lol, not worth it). Yep a good magnification with an RCO or LPVO is kinda necessary for an adequate combat rifle.
