My dad was such a womaniser that I avoided dating anyone who came from the same island as him. My half sister didn't have this rule. One day she met a great guy at a party. They hit it off, then my dad strolled by and said to her, 'Oh, I see you've met your brother.' She was mortified. That brother refused anything to do with any of us after that.

Y’all are reading into what Foreman was saying incorrectly. He was not promoting incest or saying they aren’t related. The purpose of his statement was to let them know they were in no way at fault because they did not know. Her mother and their father essentially lied to them. Had they have grown up knowing they were siblings then they would be in the wrong. It’s an awkward and difficult situation to tell a married couple that they actually share a father. Who would actually know exactly what to say in that situation?

House can never exist in today's society or any society for that matter. His disregard for privacy, lack of compassion and his condescending demeanor are all traits that no one wants in a doctor or a boss. His desire for the answer to the puzzle always outweighs his desire to help the patient. Curing the patient just so happens to be a happy bonus if he solves the case. He breaks the first rule of medicine all the time, "Do no harm" in his quest for answers. I'm sure there are a lot of smart doctors out there, maybe even a doctor as smart as House, but their hands would always be tied and would never be able to make a proper diagnose without getting sued constantly. That what makes House MD a work of fiction set in a world of pure fantasy.

My friend and her husband did IVF for their first child then were miraculously able to have two other children the natural way which left them with two unused embryos. They donated the embryos to be used by other couples and made sure to tell their first born that when he starts dating his gf will need to have a dna test to ensure they aren't related because in that case, they would be full brother and sister.

Sadly this happens a lot, some couples if they are adopted or if one of their parents abandoned them as a young child then it is possible for the half siblings or full blood siblings to end up together. I remember reading a news article about a couple who were actually twins, they both thought that they had the same birthday but because they did not look identical and because they were both adopted to two separate households, it was hard to tell if they were related, the only way to tell if they were twins was by DNA and of course hair/eye colour. They both were already married and had children before they found out and it destroyed their marriage and families, their kids were teenagers so their kids ended up resenting the couple even though it was not their fault. This is why it is so important to tell your children who their parents are and if they get adopted then they should be adopted together. I feel so bad for any couple out there who experienced this, it's horrible. The couple from the news article, they did not face any charges because they had no idea they were related, they did however got divorced and went their separate ways. The parents take it in turns to look after the children, the children live with the mother and the father lives on his own.

They fell deeply in love and became engaged. I can't remember how or why but somehow they discovered they were Full Biologically brother and sister. Both were crushed and devastated and immediately went into therapy. They decided to stay together as a couple and according to article they were researching which states accepted these kind of marriages so they could relocate. A former friend and colleague of mine about fifteen years ago inadvertently discovered that she and her husband were half siblings. They already had a baby daughter at the time. They had her tested and fortunately she didn't have any health conditions to worry about. Apparently the husband and wife were both adopted and both tracked down their birth mothers only to find it was the same person. I only found out after she quit her job. She had written an email to a few of us who she had been close to, explaining the whole bizarre story and why we probably wouldn't see or hear from her again. She said their marriage had begun to suffer after their discovery so they had decided to move away, wanting a fresh start, but I heard on the grapevine that they were divorced several months later. I've seen her around once or twice since then but it seemed like she was trying to avoid me, so I didn't approach her. I have thought about their family often, though. The daughter especially. She'd be in high school by now. I wonder if she knows and if she's ok.

I almost had a similar situation happen. When I was in high school this girl always flirted with me, and we talked a lot, but eventually stopped talking after I graduated from high school and moved away for university. A few years later I found out that her dad and my dad were first cousins. We weren’t super closely related, but still too closely for my comfort. I’m grateful that I moved away before we ended up getting intimate, because things seemed to be gradually going in that direction. 🤢 I have a rare surname in this area. Her parents divorced long ago and she always used her mother’s last name, and never mentioned to me that her father has the same last name as me. I’ve always been disturbed by this, because she never mentioned it to me, and she must have known that there was a possibility that we were related, and I can’t figure out why she never pointed out her father having the same surname as me. Hopefully it was a lack of common sense and not her intentionally concealing it.

The father remarried but never knew he had a son with the former wife and she also kept it hidden. Sadly enough both mom and father died even before their kids fully grown and never been introduced to each other. The case got worst that after they're married the moved to overseas due to the husband's work for almost 4 years. Cliche as it maybe, the only reason the couple had figured out due to the Son's grandmother recognized the father's photo kept by her granddaughter-in-law during a family gathering when they both return back to the country. The news was shocking not to mention the couple already had two kids at the time.

In Tamil families, it used to be very common for men to get married to their older sister's daughter. It was extremely common for cousins to get married in other parts of India. All this has reduced because the medical community has been vocal about the dangers of marrying a relative.

Dr. Eric Foreman's take is that they weren't really siblings in the familial sense as they didn't grow up together, fight over who got the bigger piece of cake etc. That said...beyond the ick factor...sibling mating where offspring is possible involve increased risk of birth defects as recessive genes are more likely to get expressed in offspring.

Ha ha, I'm pretty sure you've misunderstood that. It used to be that many states in the US required people to take blood tests before getting married, mostly to test for sexually transmitted diseases, but almost all states have dropped that requirement. I think that New York still requires tests for sickle-cell anaemia for some couples. But the results do not affect whether they are allowed to get married. And it was never about testing for relatedness.

They were in shock and starting to panic. He said that to head off any guilt or loathing they might harbor for each other or themselves. In essence, he was saying that emotionally and psychologically they weren’t siblings and since they didn’t know, they shouldn’t think they were incestuous perverts or something which is the most probable conclusion they’d jump to about themselves. “They didn’t change each other’s diapers” means they didn’t grow up in the same house, they weren’t raised by the same set of parents, they never behaved or were treated as brother or sister. For all intents and purposes, they were neighbors who fell in love and got married. If anyone was at fault, it was their shared father and her mother for not telling them the truth especially when they started seeing each other.
