I have always used 651 and my cups go through the dishwasher two and three times a week for the last year with no problem. I allow my vinyl to cure for 24 hrs prior to washing or giving to a customer. I’ve never had a complaint.

No, just put it on a plain stainless steel cup. I probably have 6 cups and yet to have an issues with them

I give it a quick blowdry over the decal in the hottest setting. Then leace it alone for a few days and it seals pretty well.

Exactly. Those were two different cups and it looked like it had some sort of glossy treatment on top of it. I've never had any problem with Oracal 651.

I did the same thing with oracale 651, starcraft permanent, and permanent cricut. The cricut is the one that fell off first. Other two are still going strong. It's been washed about 30 times. Haven't tried with specialty vinyl yet though. Thanks for doing this!

I have put oracl on some cups well over a year ago. They are just now starting to come loose. I think if the cups had set for 24 plus hours maybe might have been different. I am going to try the cricut again though. Thanks for the video

Hexis vinyl I have tested with, 70 degrees weather day for 1 year. Then from tiny little pieces to the size you had, the very smallest loosened but everything else was molded 👍🏼

Hi! I just saw your video and i wanted to test myself, i put a glas with Oracal 751 High Performance into the dishwasher at 60 degrees and.. was perfectly all right. Nothing gone :D I think depends on which vinyl you use and degrees. I will also test a ceramic mug. Also before, i let the glass rest for 48h.

The cups are different ... so maybe the finished differently (gloss, chemicals) and that may effect the glue? 🤔

Melody Lane has wine glasses with cricut vinyl on them that has when thru the dishwasher for a year now..every cycle for a year and still looks as good as it did the day it was put on.

Very shocked, I stopped purchasing Cricut vinyl because it was HORRIBLE! (Have been a cricut owner for 10+years) Apparently they deserve another chance. Thank you!

I agree. I bought some cricket vinyl and it was horrible. It peeled off after a few days. Lucky able to return the unused one. I started buying Oracle 651. But I'm not sure it they were the premium ones. I will double check.

I use Oracal 651 on clear glass wine glasses and run them thru the dishwasher with no heat dry and it works beautifully

Thanks for a great video. I wonder if the surface also makes a difference? I had great dishwasher results with 651 but the mug was clear glass. I will definitely give the Cricut brand a try. TFS

This is surprising, because I see a lot of people recommending the Oracal for diswasher safe. However I had cricut premium on a tumbler and I put it in the dishwasher to help get it off and that wasnt going anywhere.

The difference is Oracal 651 is a calendared vinyl and the Cricut vinyl is cast. Premium Cast vinyl will ALWAYS outlast the intermediate calendared vinyl the adhesive is different between the two as well.

Interesting. I've always heard that you couldn't put any vinyl in the dishwasher, had to always hand wash. Looks like I was wrong (again). Thank you for the video and all in info you give us. Could you kindly do another test using both vinyls on the same cup? The different cups could affect outcome.

Interesting video. I use Oracal 641 and 651 on ceramic mugs, they're put through the dishwasher on a daily basis, using dishwasher detergent on a 60 degrees wash cycle for 1hr 30. My vinyl stays on the cups. Cricut looks good quality too x

I never had a problem with the original Cricut vinyl before the permanent & temporary vinyl. I have it on my stainless steel water bottles that go into the dishwasher weekly! I have 5. It’s been on for almost 2 years & as the old Timex saying, it keeps on ticking! Give it a try!

cup shape ( in the inclined cup, the letters are more directly facing the water jet than the straight and more vertical one) and maybe the surface finish is different as well as the position inside the diswasher. oracals place might be having most of the water jet and the heat pressure on it. anyway, its a good test and will help in considering what brand we will use.

Is it best to use the mug press to seal the vinyl when making the mugs? Or would it work the same as just placing the vinyl on as you did above?

You need to try these on the same cups. The Orical cup, is a different finnish, and could be part of themproblem.

I agree the price is high, but disagree on quality. I have no more issues with their vinyl than I do with others. As a matter of fact, I love their printable vinyl.

She used clear contact paper. I also use that. Works great. You can buy it at the Dollar Tree for small roll. Bigger ones at places like Target and Wal-Mart. Huge savings.

I am very surprised. I cut a lot of vinyl and refuse to buy Cricut vinyl. 651 has never let me down. Cricut vinyl COST more for a lesser amount and quality product. If the price was right, I would consider using Cricut Premium vinyl. Thanks for the demo

1. Oracal 651 is not Premium, 751 is (Not a fair comparison) 2. Squeegee it on the cup 3. You’re supposed to leave it on 72 hours for full adhesion. Also interesting test to see the GoPro in the dishwasher.

Demian B I did some cups with oracle 651 and they sat for a month before they were given as gifts and didn’t make it through the dishwasher they brought them back to me and I redid with Cricut vinyl and they have been good to go ever since.

I use Cricut regular vinyl on cups. They have been in and out of the dishwasher for over two years, and look as great as they did on day one! Pretty sad the same cannot be said of Oracal.

Is the Cricut Premium Calendar or cast? 651 is Calendar vinyl so this maybe a factor other than glue quality. Test with everything stated evenly.other than adhesive.

Modge Podge. You made it where I could not leave a comment on the WOOD PICTURE TRANSFER. As a woodworker, I can tell you the first step in that process is verifying you can't break the board in your hands. Second. a four foot drop test for breakage is a good idea. Third, many home centers will not cut a board for you. I was sure you were going to iron that print. I never saw Modge Podge used this way. I do not see how laser embedded metallic toners would pull out as well as ink. But I was amazed at the product!

I would try the same test but reverse the cup you apply to. See if the mug surface is an issue.

I would still seal mine with dishwasher safe mode podgy. I also use a sponge brayer to get rid of the brush marks.

It would be good to know what happens after they're dishwashed for a month or more. Also, is there any thing you can spray or coat on the cup to help the vinyl stay on longer?

The rhinestone world has a film that you can apply on vinyl or htv that goes on clear and will allow things to be washed in the dishwasher.

You can try using the weld option on your design. That way when you go to cut, the design stays wherever you set it to.

Yes, that is better for things that will be submerged in water.

Have you tried iron on Cricut vrs another Heat transfer on tshirts to see how it holds up. This actually shocked me since everyone swears Oracle is far superior.

You get what you pay for- most Etsy or eBay online decal retailers sell $3 cus they decals are like .10 cents a 12x12 When cricut premium is $5 But hey you get what you pay for

You need to use heat on oracal to activate the adhesive. That way should stay sticked.

I am not at all surprised. Since I have been using vinyl, I’ve preferred Cricut to other brands. I do not even bother with permanent vinyl. Instead I use regular vinyl on cups and put them in the dishwasher. It has been over two years, and none of the vinyl has moved or come off.

I'm not sponsored by oracal (I wish lol) so my opinion is impartial. 1st of all we know you have to leat the vinyl seal For at least 48 hours. 2nd, they are different kind of mugs how can we know that didn't affect the results 3rd idk of it was the position of the camera but the cricut one looks like it have a holder in front of the letters and oracal haven't. So in my opinion this video is not objective.

Yes - the big factor here is that the video doesn't mention or show the cure time the adhesive requires before being able to get it wet.

Could you redo this test using the same mugs and degreasing them before applying vinyl? This test doesn't seem like it would be a very accurate representation of the quality of either vinyl
